trees mentioned in the Bible was
given by Mrs. Williah Miller. The
Glad,Ildings prayer was read by
Mrs. Houghton, and the study'hook
on India was taken by Mrs. Lam-
ond; ?with Mrs. Harburn and _Mrs.
J. Scott assisting. Mrs. F. Allen
,gave current events, giving the
hhighlights of the Synodical which
w4ie held at St. Thomas.
5§, Mrs. Houghton presided for the.
Ladies' Aid meeting and opened
the meeting with a scripture read-
ing and prayer. Mrs. Ken McKel-
lar gave the treasurer's report. A
donation of $10 was given to the
leader of the C.G.I.T. group to buy
Jiterature and supplies for their
meetings. A committee was ap-
pointed to see about a play. A
donation was made to the Cancer
Fund. Lunch was served by the
hostess and the committee.

HENSALL
The regular meeting of Amber
Rebekah Lodge No. 349, Hensall,
was held on Wednesday evening
with Noble Grand Miss Mabelle
Whiteman presiding. Applications
Were received from eight prospec-
tive members to be initiated at'
the next regular meeting. The
members are invited to attend
meetings at Seaforth and Monk -
ton lodges, May 24 and 27, respec-
tively.
OF THE WEEK
At India:' The executive of Huron
Deanery met following the meet-
ing and made plans for their
Deanery, which was held at Wing -
ham, on Thunday, May 19.
" Hear Former Minister
Anniversary services in Carmel
Church last Sunday were largely
attended. The guest speaker for
the day was Rev. W. A. Young,
Chaplain at the 0.A.C. Guelph,
and. former minister, who deliver-
ed. two splendid and inspiring dis-
courses. For his morning dis-
course he chose to speak on
"Building For the Future," and
the evening theme was, "Wells or
Cisterns." The choir, under the
leadership of Mrs. Harold Bell,
contributed splendid anthems. The
guest soloist was Mr. A. Elston, of
Exeter, who contributed pleasing
solos, and a quartette by the Miss-
es Edith Love, Shirley Bell,
Dwayne Timmy and Jim Dougall.
Floral bouquets were placed in
loving memory of the late Mrs.
Colin Hudson and the late George
Fee.
United Church W.M.S. Meets
Mrs. E. Geiger, convener, pre-
sided for the monthly meeting of
the W.M.S. which was held recent-
ly. The topic, "India," `kvas vivid-
ly discussed by Mrs. Geiger, whose
group was also in charge of the
devotional period. Mrs. W. J.
Rogers, president, occupied the.
chair during the business sessioa.
The ladies have accepted an invi-
tation tot attend a special meeting
of the Chiselhurst W.M.S., to be
held in Chiselhurst Church Friday
evening, May 20. Transportation
is being. arranged. Mrs. G. Arm-
strong reported on the. recent Pres-
byterial in Wingham. Mrs. L. Eil-
er, representing Christian Citizen-
ship, gave remarks on "Immigra-
tion." There was a splendid at-
tendance.

United Chu met Monday night

Rannie the chair, who opened
with prayer. The devotional en
titled, -"The Christian Horne," wa
ably given by Mrs. K. Buchanan
The scripture passage was read
by Mrs. Chipchase, and Mrs. D
Cook offered prayer. Mrs. H. Mc
Ewen and Mrs. Raye Paterson fav
ored with a pleasing duet, "Be
yond the Sunset," accompanied
Miss Gladys Luker. The study
chapter on "The Church in India,"
as described by Mrs. W. J. Rog-
ers, was most interesting and in-
formative.
Mrs. J. Taylor, secretary, read
a thank -you note from Mrs. H.
Keys and Elaine. The president
asked for a volunteer committee to
supervise nursery school. Those
named were Mrs. R. Cook and
Mrs. Scane, these ladies to secure
teachers.
Mrs. Chipchase, convener, re -
parted on the successful canvass
made in connection with the pur-
chase of a kitchen"stove and ket-
tle. Auxiliary members favor hold-
ing a bake sale on May 28th. Those
offering to make plans are: Mrs.
Ferg, Mrs. Flynn, Mrs. McNaugh-
ton, Mrs. Rannie and Mrs. Chip -
chase.
Mrs. Edison Forrest, assisted by
Mrs. J. Simmons, showed beauti-
ful colored views, depicting a tour
of the States, taken by Miss Mil-
dred Forrest, Reg.N. Auxiliary
members plan to hold a theatre
party in June. In charge of ar-
rangements will be Mrs. W. Spen-
cer and Mrs. D. McKelvie. Mrs.
J. Traquair gave the sick commit-
tee report: Mrs. D. Kyle and Mrs.
B. Kyle will form the visiting com-
mittee in September. The presi-
dent closed the meeting with
prayer. •
Mrs. E. Forrest directed a con-
test, after which a tasty lunch was
served. Mrs. D. McKelvie and
Mrs. J. Drysdale were hostesses
on this occasion.
KIPPEN
Kippen East W.I. met at No. 2
Schoolhouse on Wednesday at 8:30
p.m., with Mrs. Ross Chapman
and Mrs. John Cooper as hostess-
es. "What form of entertainment
I like best" was the roll call, and
the motto, "Look Pleasant, please,
the world is taking your picture,"
was taken by Mrs. Charles Eyre.
Mrs. Bruce McGregor had
charge of the music, and Mrs. R.
Upshall, current events. The
guest speaker was Mrs. W. Haugh.
The lunch committee consisted
of Mrs. J. McLellan, .Mrs. Ivan
Forsyth, Mrs. John Sinclair, Mrs.
J. Henderson, Mrs. W. Workman,
