here on May 31. This special meet-
ing is to be held Friday night.
Mrs. J. Simmons presented ac-
counts for payment. The financial
statement was given by Mrs. Sim-
mons, and Mrs. Mock read cor-
respondence from the following:

At Ladies' Aid Here
The Ladies' Aid of First Presby-
terian Church held their May
meeting on Tuesday with Mrs. H.
Whyte, president, in the chair.
Mrs. Whyte opened the meeting
with a suitable poem on May. The
secretary's and treasurer's reports
were read and adopted. Mrs.
Robert McMillan sang a pleasing
solo, ''The Good Shepherd." She
was accompanied by Mrs. E. Ged-
des.
Mrs. Faber, of Hensall, gave an
interesting nand instructive address
on her experiences as a nurse in
the Grenfell Mission Hospital in
Labrador. Eighteen years ago the
hardships and means of communi-
cation were much more difficult
than they are today. There was a
shortage of doctors and these
nurses showed great courage and
fortitude, Mrs. Faber showed
samples of their handicraft and
pictures of the scenery and peo-
ple. She recommended several in-
teresting books, one of which was,
-Labrador Doctor," by Sir Wil-
frid Grenfell, the founder of the
Mission Hospital. Mrs. Faber told
several humorous incidents. Her
talk was very much enjoyed by
all. Miss Marion Gray moved a
hearty vote of thanks to Mrs.
Faber.
A social half-hour was enjoyed
arid lunch served by Mrs. Cole-
man and Miss Marion Gray's
group, who also arranged the
meeting.

Mrs. Davis won the mystery
prizo. The sick committee report
vSnii given by Mrs. Shaddick. Mrs.
Biown reported on the social com-
mittee. Business discussed was:
The Ladies' Auxiliary have decid-
ed to cater to the Legion suppers,
the first of these to take place
on June 6, at 7:30. Mrs. Davis
and Mrs. L. Sangster are conven-
ers. Twenty-five dollars was vot-
ed to the University Scholarship
Fund. Mrs. K. Buchanan is lunch
convener in June. The meeting
was adjourned and the National
Anthem was sung.
A period of bingo foliowed..Prize
winners were: Mrs. A. Poster,
Mrs. S. Rennie, Mrs. T. KYie, Mrs.
Beer, Mrs. R. Taylor, Mrs. G. Al-

Dies in Woodstock
Mrs. James E. Smith, 86, who
died Wednesday, April 20, in
Woodstock General Hospital, was
the former Mary M.. Witmer, of
Huron County, and went to the
Plattsville dis• trict 65 years ago.
She and her husband celebrated
the 63rd anniversary of their.wed-
ding on April 1st
Surviving besides her. 'husband
are one brother, Sylvanus Witmer,
Zurich, and one sister, Mrs. Tilley
Forest, HensalL Service was con-
ducted in the Glendinning Funeral
Home on -April 23, at 2 p.m. by
the Rev. W. Cassell, of Strasburg.
Burial was in Chesterfield ceme-
tery.

The recently formed 4-H Hay -
Stanley Tractor Club !net Monday
evening at the Hensall Motors
Garage. The rtresident of the or-
ganization is Gerald Parsons, of

na; press reporter, Wayne Mc-
Bride, Kippen.
Twelve members were present
and two new members joined at
the meeting. Mr. H. Bellman, of
Walkerton, showed slides on car-
bueration, after which experi-
ments were made on a tractor.

FOR PERTH COUNTY HISTORY
The Council of Hibbert Township
met in regular session on Monday
evening, with all members present
and the reeve presiding. The min-
utes of. the previous meeting were
read and adopted.
Photographs were taken of the
council and officials for the files
of the History of Perth County,
which is now being completed.
Monteith, Monteith and Co. aud-
itors' report was read, explained
and adopted, and the auditors' ac-
count paid. By -Laws Nos. 14 and
15: 1955, for repair and improve-
ment on the Wren Municipal Drain,
were given final readings and
passedalso agreements were
drawn for the township to bear
the tost of levelling spoil banks
on the drain, which interfere with
crop lands.
Reeve Edgar Butson was ap-
pointed to attend the annual cOn-
ference of the Association of On-
tario Mayors and Reeves, to be
held in North Bay in June. A
cheque was received **from Us -
borne Township for $1,272.50 as
provincial aid to drainage and sur-
plus on the Ausable River Im-
provement, and the clerk was in-
structed to write to the Clerk of
Usborne for a statement, showing
the amount of the cost of the im-
provement, also the surplus.
Road • accounts for $988.63 and
general accounts for $1,487.47 were
ordered paid. The next regular
meeting of councll is to be held
on June 6, at 8 p.m., D.S.T.

W.A. Meets
The May meeting of the Wo-
man's ASsociation was held in the
school room of the United Church
on Tuesday, May 3. Mrs, C. Ham
and Mrs. Ross Scott had charge
of the devotional exercises. The
meeting opened with the singing
of Hymn 148. The scripture was
from the second chapter of Acts,
verses 1-4 and John 15, verses 26
and '27. The topic, "The Comfor-
ter," was taken by Mrs. Ham.
This was followed with prayer.
The singing of the first and fourth
verses of Hymn 157 closed this
part of the' meeting.
The president, Mrs. N. Baird,'
took the chair. The Creed was re-
peated in unison. Mrs. McBeath
gave the secretary's report; Mrs.
Berry gave the treasurer's report
and received the offering. Moved
