"We vim are graduates of Sea -
forth Collegiate have good cause to
be grateful, not only to our school,
but to the community in whose life
it is a fit. Of r people of Seafortb
and the surrounding area have in-
herited from their Scots or Scots -
Irish forefathers, a keen interest in
education for its own sake as well
as .a definite sense of its value as
an avenue to the professions. They
have in many eases undergone eon-
siderable sacrifices in order to se-
cure for their sons and daughters
the advantages of academic train-
ing. They have always been anx-
ious to obtain the services of the
best teachers without too much
cavilling at the price. They have
followed with sympathy the pro-
gress of their students, comparing
eagerly the records of their boys
and girls with similar records from
other towns. They have done ev-
erything in their power that their
Collegiate might be second to few
or none in the Province. In brief,
they have given our school their
best. support.
In return, I think we may say
that the students have not failed
to appreciate . the opportunities

that were theirs. It is one of the
best traditions of Seaforth that its
boys and girls take a real interest
in their academic work and devote
to it their best attention quite
apatt from its use as a ladder to-
ward a remunerative occupation.
This earnest attitude of the si,u-
dents has always, I think, impress-
ed those who,,,., like the teachers, of common comment tha
come from other regions into close
contact " with the life of our Col-
legiate. In this connection it may
not be inappropriate to refer to the
time of my friends and myself, al-
though like everything else which
happened before 1914, that seems
antediluvian now. It was a matter
when s.
boy dropped Latin or nch, he
soon let everything else elide; and
the "dropp4ng" was condemned bar
public opinion as a sign of wealK-
nese. We were proud of ourGreek
classes, the total of whose mein
bers at one time reached twenty. -
