WA July Meeting
The July- meeting of the Walton
W.M.S. and W.A. group was held
at the home of Rev, and Mrs. M
Thomas ou Wednesday afternoon.
.I'he opening hymn, "Sun of My
Soule' was followed witchprayer by
the president, Mrs. Ronald Ben-
nett. atter which the scripture les-
son was read by Mrs. Frank Kirk-
by from Mark 4:1-32. Mrs. Fern
Patterson gave the secretary's re-
port and called the roll, to which
19 ladies responded. The treasur-
er, Mrs. Frank Kirkby, gave the
financial report.
During the business period an-
nouncements were made regarding
the church picnic, which will be
held in the Lions Park, .Seaforth,
on Thui'sday evening, July 22. Sup-
per will be served at 6:30 sharp.
Mrs. Torrance Dundas gave a
Splendid topic on "The Vital
Choice," She stated that in this
worki there are many things to
see, so many books to read, so
many things to do; and in the few
fleeting years that God permits us
to spend in this world we have not
time for all the wonderful things
that it contains, consequently we
have to make choices.
The meeting closed with the
hymn, "Father, Lead Me Day By
Day," and the Mizpah benediction
repeated in unison. A social half-
hour was spent, during which Mrs,
John Shannon conducted sever-
al contests. The hostess, Mrs.
Thomas. served a dainty lunch, as-
sisted by Mrs. Ronald Bennett,
Mrs.. J. Marshall, Mrs. Silas John-
ston and Mrs. Nelson. Marks.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Frank Walters,
in September.
Master Gary Neilson, of Inger-
soll. is visiting his aunt, Mrs. Al,

SISTER DIES IN WINNIPEG
Mr. Frank Smale received word
that his sister, Florence (Mrs. Wal-
ter Hayes), died quite suddenly
after a short illness in Winnipeg
Sunday evening.
Mrs. Hayes was born in Hibbert
Township and was 61 years of age.
She went West with her parents in
February, 1913, and had never re-
turned to visit her native Ontario.
She had resided the past 15 years
in Winnipeg.
WILLIAM A. SMITH
William A. Smith, 83, who died
Monday night in the Riverside Rest
Home, Mitchell, was born at Sea -
forth, but went to Mitchell with
his parents when a child. Until
retiring 10 years ago, he had fol-
lowed his trade as a painter.
He was a member of Trinity An-
glican Church, and active in Ma-
sonic circles, being a member of
Tudor Lodge No, 141, and Elliot
Chapter. No. 129, R.A.M. Surviv-
ing besides his wife, the former
Hanna Smith, are two sisters,
Mrs. Robert Jenner, Port Sydney,
Muskoka, and Mrs. G. E. Nicholls,
Castor, Alberta.
The body rested at the Lockhart
Funeral Home, Mitchell, where a
service was conducted Thursday at
2:30 p.m. by Rev. M. A. Hunt, and
burial made in the Anglican ceme-
tery"
EDWIN LESLIE
Edwin Leslie, of Atwood, 'passed
away at his home in Atwood Sun-
day, He was 68. Born at Blind
Line of Elma Township, August 2,
1886, he was the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leslie. On
September 12,-1917, he married the
former Ella Anderson. and after-
wards farmed on the 10th conces-
sion of Elma Township. Twenty
years ago they moved to Atwood,
where they have since resided.
Mr. Leslie was a member of the
Atwood Presbyterian Church.
Surviving him are his wife, Ella,
one daughter, Miss Margaret Les-
lie, Atwood; a son, Robert Leslie,
Atwood, and three grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters and
three brothers: Mrs. Hedley May.
Toronto; Mrs, George Mills, R.R.
1, Atwood; Mrs. William Petrie,
Mitt'hell; Mrs. Elwood Roe, At-
wood; William. J. Leslie, Stratford,
and Harvey- Leslie, Seaforth.
, Funeral services were held Wed-
nesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at
his late residence with the Rev, C.
M. Lewis, of the Atwood Presby-
terian Church, officiating, Burial
was in Elma Centre cemetery.
"FUNERAL OF WILFRID LINDSAY
Funeral services were held for
Wilfrid Lindsay, 50, restaurant
owner and postmaster of Florence,
at the Robinson Funeral Home,
Bothwell. on Friday, -July 2, at 2
p.m., being conducted by Rev.
Stewart Miner and Rev, Norman
Morris, both of Florence, Mrs.
James Holman presided at the or-
gan for the service, Mr. Lindsay
died at his home at Florence on
Wednesday, •June 30. He was for-
merly from this district.
Interment was made in the Both-
well cemetery, the 'pallbearers be-
ing Russet Gray, Vern Nurse, Gor-
don Osborne, Russell Coutts, Har-
old Dobbyn and Wilbert North. The
fiowerbearers were Doug Coutts,
Ken Price, Jim Cracknell, Harold
MacRobert. Lorne" Elliott, Grant
Forshee, Glenn l3ilton and Bob 1311 -
ton, all of Florence: Allan Scurrah,
of Detroit, and Alex Muyroe, of
Bothwell.
Last rites were conducted by offi-
cers of Florence Masonic Lodge
and Bothwell Chapter O.E.S. at im-
pressive services on Thursday eve:
ring for their departed brother.
Besides his wifr', the former Jean
McKeoe n, he is survived by his
mother. Mrs. Mary Lindsay. of
Florence. ;1011 two sisters, Mrs.
Wilson "Thompson (Hazel), of Mar -
mora, Ont.. and Mrs, John D. Mun-
ro (Janet). of Florence,
Mr. Lindsay was bailiff for 27
years and was at the time of his
appointment one of the youngest
appointees in the province. He wa.s
secretary -treasurer of Florence pub-
lic school board for several years
and secretary of Dresden District
High Sohoot board from its incep-
tion, but resigned two years ago
on account of ill health. He was a
prominent Mason, being Past Mas-

A contract for two new bridges
in Morris Township were awarded
to the VanCamp Construction Com-
pany of Belgrave, by the Morris
Council, at a special meeting of
council last week.
The two bridges are situated on
the 7th Line of Morris and the
Centre sideroad,between the 7th
and 8th concessions. Work on the
new bridges is expected to start
around July 15,
The regular meeting of the Coun-
cil was held in the Township Hall
on July 5, witch all the members
present. The minutes of the last
meeting were read and adopted on
motion of Ross Duncan and Stew-
art Procter,
Leo Kelly and -al -ernes Phelan ap-
proached the council in regard to
a grant to help repair and fence
the St. Michael's cemetery on the
7th concession of Morris.
Procter - Duncan: That we give
a grant of $150 to the board of St.
Michael's cemetery. Carried.
Mr. Gordon Jewell was present
in regard to renewing the compen-
sation insurance. Shortreed - Els.-
ton: That the Workmen's Compen-
sation Insurance be renewed with
the Gore District Mutual Fire In-
surance Company. Carried.
Elston - Shortreed: Mat the
road bills as presented by the road
superintendent be paid. Carried.
Pee Wees Win Opener
With Dashwood 15-6
Seaforth Pee Wee and Bantam
ball players have been in action
during recent days. The Bantams
lost close decisions to St, Marys
and Dashwood. The Pee Wees won
their opening game from Dash-
wood 15-6, but lost the second to
Clinton, 6-5.
Plans are being made for a fam-
ily baseball night next week.
Brucefield Man Safe;
Car is Totally Wrecked
A late -model car was totally
wrecked but its driver only shaken
up in an accident on No. 8 High-
way about 21/2 miles east of Sea -
forth, Wednesday afternoon.
3, Aikenhead, Brucefield, was
driving west along the highway ay
when a tire blew out. He lost con-
trol of the car which swerved. off
the 'road, smashing into a tree.
Provincial Constable H. Snell, of
Seaforth, who investigated, pro-
nounced the car " a total wreck."

Picnics at Bayfield
The Tuckersmith Ladies' Club
held its annual picnic at Jowett's
Grove, Bayfield, on Tuesday, June
29, with a good crowd in 'attend-
ance.
The prize winners were: races,

hend, Kenny Wihitmore; 6, 7, 8
years, girls, Joan Rogerson, Eileen
Garrett; boys, Bruce Whitmore,
George Townshend; 9, 10, 11 years,
