Father lolinivIchw
AddressesDublinPTA
The regular meeting of the St.
Patrick's P.T.A. was held in Dublin
on Thursday evening, June 24. The
guest speaker for the evening,
Father John McIver, S.F.M., urged
both parents and teachers to 101 -
press upon young people the im-
portance of realizing that marriage
is a real'vocation. A failure to
understand and appreciate this
fact, Father McIver pointed out, is
the cause of. the decline in the
number of good CathJlic families
n the locality.
, Father McIver also urged the
teachers in a farming district to
stress the true importance of agri-
culture as an oecupaiion, since it
s the greatest of the arts, and the
foundation of the economic life of
the country. It isto be regretted
that so many young men are turn-
ing away from the farm to adopt
some other career. Farming is a
science- which niust be teamed by
intelligent study, discussion and
experiment, and it is not enough to
gather one's knowledge of it from
feed and fertilizer dealers, imple-
ment salesmen and farm maga-
zines. He also gave a very inter-
esting description of credit unions,
and Mid of the great good accom-
plished by such a union, founded
under his guidance among the Lat-
ins in San Domingo.
George Duce:lame, the president,
expressed the appreciation ef the
audience for Father McIver's talk.
Dr. Tom Melady then read to the
members the new constitution for
the St. Patrick's P.T.A. These con-
stitutions were approved and adopt-
ed.
New officers for the P.T.A. were
elected as follows: president, Dr.
Tom Melady; vice-president, Wm.
Ityan; secretary, James O'Connor;
treasurer (re-elected by acclama-
tion), Mrs. Joseph Shea; parent -
councillors, Mrs. Wilfred O'Rourke,

of those present, Reeve James Doig
of Tuckersmith read. an address,
and John McKay presented an at-
tractive clock to Mr. an'il Mrs.
Patrick. The address is as fol-
lows:
"To Mr. and Mrs. Patrick: Little
you thought when, fifty years ago,
you were making one of the most
solemn and sacred pledges that
constitutes our Christian way of
living, that a half century later you
would be besieged by this uninvit-
ed. throng. We are art happy to be
here torright,.--Mr: and Mrs-. Patrick,
and to rejoice with your family that
you have reached your golden wed-
ding anniversary. It is, truly, an
accomplishment worthy of notice.
Your lite together has been a con-
genial, one; doubtless it was due to
the fact that Mrs. Patrick knew
the dual purpose of a broom—'in sun-
shine use the brushy part, in storm
the other end'. In common with
all who live a wedded life, the
years have been a mixture of sun-
shine and shadow for you. There
have been times of anxiety and
hertache, also unforgettable seas -
®•
of glad rejoicings. You have
been blest to see a splendid family
of boys and giris reach the time
that they, too, have established
homes and Mive rewarded you with
dearly loved grandchildren.We
