Hensall News of the Week
Mr. W. R. Dougall received word
of the death of his aunt, Mrs.
Robert Dougall, -who died at the
home of her son, Eugene, in Win-
nipeg, Man., after a lingering
ness. The former Elizabeth Mc-
Guire, she was born at lateen and
is survived by one son, Eugene,
and one daughter, Mrs. Carrothers
(Margaret), both of Winnipeg.
D.D,G.M. Albert Keys, of Exeter
Lodge, paid his official visit to
Hensel' Lodge 223, I.O.O.F., Tues-
day evening. A pleasant evening
was enjoyed and lunch served.
P.D.G.M. Earl Campbell extended a
vote of thanks to Mr. Keys for his
services throughout the year.
Mrs. L. Simpson left Wednesday
for Detroit, to visit with 'members
of her family. Her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. Vothe,
left for a vacation in Florida.

Fire In Trailer
Hensall firemen responded quick-
ly to a fire at 12:15 a.m. Thursday
In a $5,000 modern trailer home
owned by George Parker. Mr. Par-
ker had got up to attend their
four -months -old baby and noticed
that the oil stove had exploded and
that fire was coming through the
floor. He and his brother ripped
off the aluminum sheathing. from
underneath, enabling the firemen
to pour water on the fire. •The
trailer was badly damaged, but not
destroyed.

and a half months this summer,

ented with a camera by Lois Jones,
Clinton, first vice-president of the
County Junior Institute, while Miss

the Clinton Junior Institute read

Decide DST Later
The regular meeting of Hensall
Council was held Monday evening
at 8 p.m. in the council chamber,
with all members present. Min-
utes of the spt'cial and last regular
meeting were read and adopted on
notion of Parke and Jones.
W. Riley appeared, re •the cars
parking in front of his garage, and
asked for some protection against
the sante. A delegation from Hay
Township Federation of Agriculture
composed of R. Dick, :Werner and
Pepper, appeared . and asked that
the Daylight Saving Time be chang-
ed from April 25 to May 30, • and
from September 26 to August 29.
The same is to be looked into and
suitable action taken.
S. Rannie appeared regarding the
condition of the sidewalk at Queen
and: Wellington Sts., also the park-
ing of cars on the same. This js to
be looked after Iby the street com-
mittee.

Clarke Garage Entered
Wednesday Evening
The garage of M. E. Clarke was
entered for the second time in two
months late Wednesday night when
entry was made by breaking a
pane of glass and unlocking the
door. A few packages of cigarettes
were removed. Provincial Constable
Gordon Ferris is investigating.
Wm. Murray Celebrates
91st Birthday Friday
Mr. William Murray, well known
resident of town, will mark his
91st birthday on Friday. Mr. Mur-
ray is hale and hearty and takes a
walk every day. He seldom miss-
es coming for his mail. The Exposi-
tor and a host of friends extend
congratulations and best wishes on
this ocoasion.
E. R. Davis reported regarding
the work on the trees, stating the
same would take some time to do
a good job; also that Mill S•t.'need-
ed ,grading; also regarding work
done by the Bell Telephone last fall
needing attention. He also men-
tioned the Hall needing .some re-
pairs, especially upstairs; also ask-
ed about the transients. He was in-
structed to stop is:$uing meal tick-
ets the last of the month. '
J. A. Paterson reported as hay,
ing received. $3.290 in tax prepay-
ments and the tax arrears of 1953
as being $900.82, 'He also reported
poor success in collecting the fees
for the pumping of water out of
cellars, and was instructed to col-
lect the' same in full at once. He
also reported about the 1953 tax
roll. On motion of lioy and Luker,
the Treasurer was instructed to
collect the tax arrears at once and
to hand in the tax roil at the next
meeting. May 3.

day visiting friends in Preston.
Mr. Norman Dickert visited on
Wednesday afternoon with his
mother, Mrs. Dickert, of Clifford.

and Billy visited in London on Sun-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Dickert
and Patsy, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver
Jacques, of Clifford, and Mr. and
Mrs. Anson Wolfe and Grant, of
Melbourne, were Sunday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rickert and
Merle.
On Monday evening a few Kip -
pen ladies attended a British knit
demonstration at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Alex McGregor. Her sis-
ter, Mrs. Joyce Riley, of Seaforth,
was the demonstrator. A fine. dis-
play of sweaters, lingerie, under-
wear, boys' and girls' outerwear
were, exhibited. At the close of the
evening refreshments were served
by the hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lostell visited
on Saturday with the latter's sis-
ter and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Roy McLeod, of Wingham.
Drs. James Jarrott, of London,
Gilbert C, Jarrott, of Stratford, and
Miss Etta Jarrott, of Toronto, visit-
ed their mother, Mrs- Catherine
Jarrott over the weekend.

McBride is not well and hope for
a speedy recovery.

Tuckersmith Municipal Council•
met in the Town Hall, Seaforth, on
'Tuesday at 2 p.m. All members
were present and the Reeve pre-
sided. No action was taken on a
'petition presented by the Federa-
tion of Agriculture for brucellosis
control, as the same was not suf-
ficiently signed by a two-thirds ma-
jority
lajority of cattle owners.
James Love, municipal auditor,
presented his report for 1953. This
report showedan operating surplus
of $2,108.56 for the year 1953 and
an accumulated surplus of $11,-
163.05.
William Cameron, member from
Tuckersmith to the Scott Memorial
Hospital Board, reported to Coati-
ell
ouncil on activities of the hospital dur-
ing 1953. The reeve was authorized
to sign gravel contracts in dupli-
cate with the Levis Contracting Co.
for approximately 12,000 cubic
yards gravel to be laidon roads in
1954. The Township joined the As-
sociation of Mayors and Reeves. "
The Clerk was instructed to ap-
ply to the 'H:E.P.C. to have one adr
ditional street light installed in the
Egmondville system, adjoining J.
Barry's residence.
Council acknowledged receipt of
a report on the McCullie Drain Im-
provement and reading of the same
will be on Saturday, April 17, at
8:30 p.m. Council decided to ad-
vertise for tenders for spraying
roads for weed control.
Council ordered 400 bags of cem-
ent for use in emergency, and are
