ARNOLD ALLEN Arnold Allen, Toronto, husband of Jean Stewart, former resident of Seaforth, passed away on Thurs- day, July 2, at Toronto General Hospital, following a short illness. Mr, Allen was the son of the late Rev. William Allen, who perished on the Athenia at the beginning of World War II. He was a general favorite on his father's radio hour. On several occasions he was guest soloist at First Presbyterian Church here. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Jean Stewart, 'daughter of Mrs. D. H. Stewart, Toronto, and the late Mr. Stewart; one son, Gary, at home, and one brother, Andrew Allen, also of radio fame, Toronto. The funeral Vas held in Toronto on Saturday, 'with inter- ment in Mount Pleasant, Cemetery. LATE HUGH J. Mr, Sproat possessed a genial disposition and was very foul of his family and grandbhildreu. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. The funeral was held from the. Box Funeral Home to St. James' Church Thursday morning for Re- quiem . High Massat le o'clock. Rev. Father'1i7. P. Welber officiated. Interment was -lin St. James' cemetery, the Pallbearers being: R. Descendants of Stanley Pioneers Hold Reunion , Sunday afternoon about 100 of the descendants of the late Rainey and Ropy Armstrong, pioneer set- tlers of StanIeY • Township, gather- ed at Jowett's. Grove, Bayfield. A pleasant time was spent in re- newing old acquaintances. .•It is over 100 years, since this pioneer couple came from Ireland. to Can- ada. They had a family of eight sons and one daughter. While many of the descendants have .,become widely , scattered, quite a number still reside in Stan- ley, Tuckersmith and nearby towns. Winthrop Societies Hold Meeting Recently on. Theme, `World Peace' The Wj.M.S. and W.A. of Cavan Ohurch, Winthrop, met July 2 in the schoolroom of the church. W.A. President Mrs. James McClure op- ened the meeting with a hymn. The secretary's. report was given and thank -you cards were read by Mrs. T. Betties. W.M.S. President Mrs. W. Dodds offered prayer. The offering was received and response sung. The W.M.S. Society will sponsor two girls to Alma College, St. T•honeas. Mrs. R. Bolton presided for the devotional part, opening with a poem, "He Does Care," by Mr. J. Beattie. The scripture was read, and Mrs. W. McSpadden offered prayer. The theme, "World Peace," was taken by Mrs. L. Bolton, Mrs F Johnston, Mrs. R Bolton and Mrs W. McSpadden. A hymn was sung as a prayer. Lunch was served by Circle I. DUBLIN Rev. J. A.
