Services in the United Church
Sunday morning were well attend-
ed, with Rev. W. J. Rogers occupy-
ing his own pulpit. A basket of
beautifiul flowers on the altar was
placed by the Passmore family, in
memory of the late Mrs. J. Pass-
more who passed away two years
ago.
Jimmy Orr, son of Mr. and Mrs.
R. A. Orr, was rushed to Victoria
Hospital, London, Monday for an
emergency appendectomy.
Mr. Irvin W611ert was taken to
St. Joseph's Hospital, London ,for
an emergency operation last Fri-
day. ^
Miss Gladys Luker, who under-
went an operation in Clinton Hos-
pital two weeks ago, returned
home last Friday.
Carmel Ladies' Aid Meets
Mrs. Alex McGregor was hostess
Monday evening for the Christmas
meeting of the Ladies' Aid of Car-
mel Presbyterian Church, with 24
members present.
The meeting was in charge of the
president, Mrs. W. R. Bell, and the
devotional was led by Mrs. R. J.
Cameron. A prayer was offered by
Mrs. Bell.
Members learned that $257.40 was
realized from the recent bazaar_
The president read a letter from
the John Milton. Society, a group
who aid the blind, and $10 was
voted for this organization; • 25.00
was voted to the choir of the
church for music" Mrs. Bell, Mrs.
E. Munn and Mrs. R. J. Cameron
were named a purchasing commit-
tee to buy linoleum for the church
vestibule.
Officers for 1953 are: president,
Mrs. W. R. Bell; vice-president,
Mrs. R. J. Cameron; secretary,
Mrs. J. E. McEwan; treasurer, Mrs.
C. Volland; group leaders: (1) Mrs.
Clarence Reid, (2) Mrs. A. Kers-
lake, (3) Mrs. J. Soldan. Mrs. J.
B. Fox closed the meeting with
prayer. Contests were enjoyed and
refreshments served.

Club To Send • Gifts
To Salvation Army
The Christmas meeting of the
Tuckersmith Ladies' Club was held
at the home of Mrs. Wen. Roger-
son last -week with a large attend-
ance. Roll call was answered with
"My happiest remembrance of
Christmass."
Several carols were sung. A con-
test by Mrs. Ed. Layton and Mrs.
Bert Garrett was won by Mrs, Fred
Taylor. A vote of appreciation was;
extended to Mrs. Bert Garrett,
president for 1952.
Several boxes of clothing were
packed for the Salvation Army and
it was dec'ded to send 325 as veil,
Group 1 will be in charge of clean-
ing the church in December, and
the next meeting will be incharge
of the same group. Christmas gifts
were exchanged.

Taking happiness as the theme
for the evening, Beta Sigma Soror-
ity members met at the home of
Miss Mary Goodwin, Hensall, Tues-
day night. Members answered the
roll call with a definition for hap-
piness.
Norma Wilson and Audrey .Bente.
ley were named captains of two
teams to determine sales on tick-
ets for the Christmas doll. Gwyen
Whilsmith gave a report on Sun-
day evening concerts planned by
the „group and the recreational
council for the winter.
In the program small talks on

members. Wilda Buswell was ap-
pointed to pack gifts to be sent to
the Children's Aid Society at Gode-
rich. Gift for the evening was won

A Christmas devotional was read
by Miss M. Ellis and, prayer by
Mrs. P. McNaughton. The visiting
committee reported on calls to the
sick. The treasurer, Mrs. J. Drys-
dale, presented the financial state-
ment, indicating a successful year.
