McArthur Reunion
The annual reunion of the Mc-
Arthur elan was held recently at
the home of Mr. and' We:. Hilton
Laing, Exeter. Forty-seven mem-
bers attended from Niagara Falls,
Blenheim, London, Ingersoll, Brig -
den, Owen Sound, -Zurich, Hensall
and Exeter, An interesting pro-,
gram of sports was directed by Mr,
and Mrs. Frank Boyd, of Niagara
Falls, Mr. and +Mrs, Roy Lamont
and Mr. and Jilrs, Mely, Elliott, of
Zurich. The 1953 reunion will be
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs_
Stewart McQueen, Hensall.
Late Matthew Thomson
Matthew Thomson, 84, for many
years a well-known Hihbert Town-
ship resident, died Monday night
at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
William Lamport, Usborne Town-
ship. Surviving are his wife, for-
merly Annie Miller; bis daughter,
one son, John Criti, Sarnia, and a
brother, '.John, Lucan.,Funeral ser-
vices were conducted Thursday at
2:30 p.m. by the Rev. W, Moores,
Thames Road United .Chureh, and
interment made .in Staffa. ceme-
tery.

charge of the devotional period,
which was in keeping with the
program, "Dearth on the Earth,"
and; was in charge of Mrs. T. Baird.
A play, showing the many ways

Late W. M. Aiken
William Moffat Aiken passed
away at his home on Tuesday, Ally
15, following a long illness. He
was born near Allenford and was
in his 69th year. Married in 1917
to Teresa Crooks, of Clinton, who
survives, together with one daugh-
ter, Mrs. D. E. Symons, Clinton;
two sons, Williard, Clinton; Arthur,
London; one sisters, Mrs. D. J.
Barss, Owen Sound', and three
brothers, Rev. M. J., Newmarket;
Wesley and Harvey, Owen Sound.
In 1923 he opened abarness shop
and later a men's wear and lug-
gage
uggage shop in Clinton. He served
as councillor for several years and
was teacher and elder in Ontario
St. United Church for 25 years, of
which church he was a faithful
member, being a kind neighbor and
a good citizen. The funeral was
held Thursday at 2:30 pan. from
the Ball & Witch funeral home,
with Rev, A. G. Eagles conducting
the service. The pallbearers were
A. J. McMurray, G. E. Elliott, 11.

Gibbings and F. Townsend. Inter-
ment was in Clinton cemetery.
KIPPEN
The 50th weddinganniversary of
Mrs. Lydia J. Doig, of Kippen, falls
on Wednesday, July 23. Mrs. Doig,
the former Lydia Conley, was born
near Madod, Ont., and was united
in marriage with the late William
M. Doig at Toronto. Following
their marriage Mr, and Mrs. Doig
moved to Sault Ste, Marie, Michi-
gan, where M1'. Doig was engaged
in the practice of law for many

On Thursday evening last the
mixed jitney which had been post-
poned from Tuesday evening,
marked the largest turnout of the
season at the local bowling green,
Mrs. J. Kaiser, MTs. John Edler,
Dr. P. L. Brady and Gordon Muir
were the prize winners. -
On Tuesday evening another
tournament was held, when Miss
Alice Reid. Mrs. Anthony Phillips,
Duncan Aikenhead and Harold O.
Free were the winners. Lunch
was served at the close of play.
Six pairs of doubles went to Exe-
ter Monday evening and Dr, J. C.
MacLennan and Norman MacLean
were the winners, while three pairs
of doubles were in Wingham the
same evening, with Alvin Dale and
G. Muir winn'ng third prize, and B.
F. Christie and Dr, P. L. Brady the
seventh prize.
Friends Honor -
July Bride -Elect
Mrs, Eldon Kerr Was hostess at
a shower Wednesday evening in
honorof her niece, Miss Muriel
Campbell, bride -elect of this week,
which was sponsored by Mrs. Ross
Gordon and Mrs. Murray Dalton.
Community singing was enjoyed,
after which 'Billie Campbell favor-
ed with a violin solo, followed by
contest§ conducted by Mrs. R. S.
'MeKercher. A mock wedding was
enacted, the bride ibeing Mrs. Dav-
id Shannon; groom, Mrs, Wilson
Campbell; bridesmaid. Mrs. R. S.
McKercher; groomsman; Mrs. Arn-
old Scott; bride's mother, Mrs. R.
M.Scott; bride's father, Mrs, Eldon
Kerr; minister, Mrs, Gordon Dap-
ple; organist, Mrs- Murray Dalton,
who ushered wedding participants
to the strains of "The Old Grey
Mare." The bride-to-be was then
seated in a nicely decorated chair
beneath an inverted umbrella, from
which pastel streamers hung and
were attached to the gift -laden
tables. The address was read by
Mrs. Ross Gordon,
Mrs. Murray Dalton, dressed as
a typical matron, entered with a
baby buggy, generously heaped
with numerous gifts, Muriel made
a fitting reply and everyone joined
in singing, "For She's a Jolly 'Good
Fellow," after which a delicious
lunch was served.

grow at a normal rate may be dis-
covered and treated before it be-

W.M.S. Baby Band Meets
The Baby Band meeting of the
W.M.S. was held Wednesday, July
9, in the Sunday School room. Mrs.
J. Sinclair.presided and opened the
meeting with Hymn 609: the Lord's
Prayer was repeated in unison and;
Hymn 623 was sung by the chil-
dren.
Mrs. Sinclair showed the chil-
dren a picture of Mrs. E. J. Pratts,
editor of The World Friends. Mist
Margaret Sinclair had charge of,
the worship. Twenty-three Iadies
answered the roll call and there
were 36 children present. Cards of
thanks were read from Mrs, J. W.
McLean and Mrs. 1. Jarrott.
The visiting committee, Mrs. J.
Sinclair and Mrs. W. Workman,
will continue for another month.
Mrs. R.' M. Peck and Mrs. A. Mc-
Murtrie are the flower committee
for July. Six dollars came in too
late for tibe bale, and it was de-
cided to .hold the money over for'
another bale. Margaret Jean Broad -
foot and Nelson McOlinehey took
up the offering. The loose offer-
ing is to be used for the Baby
Band.
Little Jean Sinclair sang "Thank
Him, Thank Him." Ruta Ann and
Marie Jarrott played a piano duet
and reepondedto an encore. Lois
McLellan and Bonnie Kyle sang a
duet, "Tell Me the Story of Jesus."
Ann Sinclair played a piano instru-
mental; Mrs,..Aliam Johnson told
the Children's story, and Ilene ,Mc-
Lean favored with a piano instru-
mental. Phyllis Lostell read a
poem and Bob Benindkye and
Marie Sinclair sang a ,duet. Elaine
Bell played a piano instrumental;
Mrs. Jack Sinclair read the ;poem,
"Boastful Benjamin," and Mrs,
Thomas Kaye delivered. the study,
"Tile Bible Speaks To Parents,"
A thank -you letter was read' from
Mr. and Mrs. Howard .Atkins.
Hymn5419 was sung and the ,meet-
ing 'closed with the Mizpalr bene-
diction in unison. Carol Mc,Mer-
trie entertained the children with
Mutes on the Lawn, and a delicious
lunch was served.
The manse is being tastefully
decorated by the ladies of St. An-
.drew's Church.
