Iceivick Council met in the clerk's
Office according to adjournment,
With Reeve E. H. Strong in the
nhairi. and all members present ex-
ooPtillg Councill Newton, who,
we are sorry to report, is confined
to Wingham 'General Hospital with
a broken leg, bat understand he is
making a satisfactory recovery.
The minutes of the last regular
meeting were read and on motion
of Gowdy and Hargrave were adopt-
ed as read.
Moved by Gowdy and' Gibson:
That we accept the tender of 0. A.
Gibson & Sons for the construction
of the Newbridge bridge at lot 30,
con. 4, Howick Twp., for the sum of
$26,990, being $1,000 less than ten-
der owing to change in design4of
railing, subject to approval of the
Department of HighwaYe.
Gowdy and. „ Hargrave:, That we
instruct the road superintendent to
order 90 gallons of weed spray, also
five gallons of brush killer from
the Green Cross Insecticides.
Gibson and Gowdy: That we en-
gage the Engeland Products Co. for
weed spraying on the township
roads at a rate of '$6 per road mile,
also $6 per hour for spraying brush.
Gibson and Hargrave: That we
give the Township Library n' -grant
of $125.
Gowdy and Gibson: That we in-
struct the Treasurer to prepare 'a
statement of expenditures on the
Wills Drain.
Gowdy and Hargrave: That the
road accounts as approved be paid.
Hargrave and Gibson: That the
following accounts be paid': Relief,

The court of re'vison on the
Lynn
Municipal Drain No. 13 was open-
ed at 2 p.m. and each member sub-,
scribed- to the necessary oath of
member of diainage court of revi-
sion.. and there being no appeals;
the following resolution was car-
red: Moved by Gowdy and Gibson: '
That this court of revision do now
adjourn.
Moved by Hargrave and Gibson:
That we instruct the clerk to call
for tenders for the construction of
the Lynn Drain, tenders to be in
the hands of the clerk by Tuesday.
June 3, at 12 noon. Plans and speci-
fications may be seen at the clerk's
office, Gorrie.

That By -Law No. .5 for the year
1962 of the Township of Howick,
as read the third' time, be finally
passed.

Hensell hockey team won the Intermediate 'A' W.O.A.A. semi-
finals this winter, but lost to the Durham Huskies in the finals.

In a discussion of business aris-
ing out of the minutes, the clerk road superintendent Was authorized
read letters from J. A. Morrison, to charge ratepayers 90c a cubic'
driirman of the Ausable River Con-
ation Authority, ,and the legal
firm of Ivey, Livermore & Dowler,
solicitors for the Authority, confirm -
ng that the Authority has no teal
authority to stop the construction
of the Kerslake municipal drain.
J. Stephens and R. Betteridge in-
terviewed the council in regard to
weed spraying on the roadside6. as

letter from the Department of
Transport, Lands Branch, Toronto,
advising that the agreement had
been delayed, but that they would
have it forwarded- as soon as pos-
sible.
At 3 p.m. tenders to hand fur the
contract to construct the Johns
Drain were opened. There was but
one tender, that of R. Nicholson
and F. Kirkby bidding $1,000 *for
the open work and $1,450 for in-
stalling the tile. Tender was ac-
cepted and contract awarded to
Robt. Nicholson. Monkton. and
Frank Kirkby, Walton, at their bid
price of $2,450 for the whole work.
The road superintendent present-
ed his report and vouchers, to the
amount of $7,336.25 for payment.
He reported that Levis Contracting
Co. had put out 6,209 cubic yards
of gravel. Report was passed on
motion of 'Smith and Herm The
treasurer reported the receipt of
$462.58 to general account and
$146.47 to roads and bridges ac-
count since April 14 meeting, and
a balance of cash of $15.210.20. The
tax collector reported that the
amount,of 1951 taxes still outstand-
ing had been reduced to $1,838.74.
Arrangements were made for
delegates to attend the annual
meeting of the Huron County Mun-
icipal Association held in Clinton
on May 14.
Correspondence was tabled and
dealt with as follows: From T. K.
Henderson, District Warble Fly In-
spector, confirming his exemption
of certain cattle in the township
from the second spray; filed. From
the County Clerk, re records of in-
corporation; search to be made. ,
After considerable discussion the
council resolved on motion of Jef•
fery and 'Mitchell to spray all the
township roadsides for the control
of weeds. The clerk was instructed
to advertise a tender call for the
contract for weed spraying in the
local newspapers. Council arrang-
ed have a special meeting on the
evening of May 26 next to cgasider
tenders for weed spraying. ' The

do the work of weed spraying on

rental for anyoue outside Hay Twp.
rate to be $7 per hour for straight
grading only; rental for lane'grad-
ing in Hay Twp. to be a minimum
of $2.50 per lane or half hour, and
present. The reeve called for the
reading of the minutes.
The following motions were pass,
ed: That permission be granted to
the, Huron County Health Unit to
make teats,, n. the Helen St. Drain
in Dashwood, which is suspetted of
being polluted by septic tank dis-
charge and that either L. H. Rader
or V. L. Becker be contacted' for
assistance. Tnat theowners of land
who signed agreements for refor-
estation 01 their land, register the
agreements at their own expense.
That we pay the account rendered
by S. W. Arohibald. O.L.S. for
$690. being for survey, plans and
!report on the Mousseau Drain.
FINAL PROGRAM in the West-
inghouse Presents series was aired
fast Sunday. The show closed with
the announcement that it will re-
turn unchanged.the first Sunday in
actober. For the nineteen iter -
vetting weeks', a singing group from
Listowel, "The Maids and Men of
Melody," will he heard on CKNX.
The program will begin simultan-
eously on four other Ontario sta-
tions at Owen Sound, Barrie, Oril-
la and Guelph. These stations' be-
gan pooling programs last year at
this time; . and the venture has
been turned with considerable suc-
cess. Representatives 'from each
station meet this week -end, in Wing -
ham to review their work alp plan
fliture moves. Adult Education pro-
grams will be one topic discussed.
As well as the Maids and Men of
Melody show, CKNX contributes to
the pool: Fair Gable (Wednesday
night at 10:30), and Guide to 'Good
Reading (Saturday at 5 o'clock).
