Announcement. — Mr. and Mrs. New Study Book Introduced.—
"The Church of the Frontiers'
was the theme of the September
meeting of the W.M.S. of the Unit-
ed Church, Seaforth, on Thursday,
when there was a good attendance.
Guests included the Egmondville
Church ladies and Duff's, McKil-
lop, ladies. The devotional period
was taken by Mrs. R. Lawson, af-
ter which Miss A. Lawrence intro-
duced the new study book, "From
Lakes To Northern Lights," by
Dr. MacDonald, and the Home Mis-
sion Digest by Frances Bouwick.
It was announced Mrs. Grierson
would be the thankoffering Speak-
er on Oct. 5. Mrs. Lear, of Blyth.
gave a splendid report of the Lon-
don Conference branch meeting
which she attended at Chatham.
After singing the hymn, "Jesus
Saves," and the Mizpah benedic-
tion, the meeting closed. A de-
licious lunch was served at the
close by the captains and their
lieutenants, and a social half-hour
followed.

uounce the engagement of their

Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hill,
Varna, the wedding to take place

Catharines, was a welcome visitor
at The Huron Expositor office on
Saturday. He had been attending
the Western Fair, London, and was
renewing acquaiptances in this dis-
trict.

have returned to their home in To-
ronto after spending some days
with Mr. and Mrs. J. Currie.
• Mr. and, Mrs. James Arm-
strong, of Toronto, have arrived
safely in London England. They
are enjoying a two, months° trip
abroad.

erly Miss Minnie Merner, and
daughter, ass Barbara, of Lon-
don, visited the former's mother,

Death of Robert H. Carnochan.—
Death came with great suddenness
to Robert Halliday Carnochan on
Monday, Sept. 17, at Bayfield, as
he and his wife were returning af-
ter a car ride. Mr. Carnochan was
born in Tuckersmith 63 years ago,
the son of the late James Carno-
chan, pioneer resident of this dis-
trict, and where he was a success-
ful farmer until a few years ago
when he retired from . active work
on account of ill health. He was
married in 1933 to Miss Alva
Graves, Seaforth, who survives, to-
gether with one brother, James
Carnochan, Tuckersmith, and two
sisters, Mrs. Kirkby and Miss Anne
Carnochan, of Los Angeles, Cali-
fornia. The deceased was a faith-
ful member of First Presbyterian
Church. The funeral was, held on
Thursday afternoon from the Box
funeral home with Rev. D. Glenn
Campbell officiating at the s.ervice.
The pallbearers were Allister
Broadfoot, David McLean, James
Black, Henry Pierce, Jas. Lands -
borough and Russell Coleman. In-
terment was in Maitlandbank
cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dennis, of
Preston, were Sunday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. -W. C. Bennett.
Messrs. Stewart McCall and Al-
lan Searle are on a motor trip to
the Canadian West in search of
stocker cattle.
Following an illness of over four
years, Fred A. Ennis, a resident
of the village, passed away Wed-
nesday morning in his 71st year.
He was born at Cranbrook and liv-
ed in Brussels prior to coming to
the village over twenty-five years
ago. Surviving are his wife, the
former Ethel Sarah Wilson, Strat-
ford; two sons, Douglas Ennis, of
Walton, and W. Corby Ennis, of
London, and three daughters, Mrs.
Kenneth Ritchie, Seaforth; Mrs.
Ross Cunningham, Ethel, and
Mary Dressel, Toronto; also
one brother, William Ennis, Ethel,
and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth
Smith, of Toronto. The deceased
received his education in Cran-
brook. The funeral will be held
Friday afternoon from his late resi-
dece, with Rev. W. H. Thomas
conducting the service. Interment
will be in Brussels cemetery.
