On his mother's side, Dr. Fowler was a great grandson -of Col. An- thony nthony Van Egmond (Baron Van Egmond of Holland)), a lineal des- cendant of Count Egmont, Prince of Gravere, who was the most aristocratic, wealthy and powerful of Flemish princes at that time. A strange coincidence is that the Fowler and Van Egmond families were connected by marriage at that time, also, the wife of Wil- liam I of Holland/ being Anne of Egmont, sister of Count Egmont. Dr. Fowler was a man of great ability—clever, shrewd, enemata and very successful in his profes- sion. Dr. Fowler was the eldest son of John H. Fowler and Eliza., beth R. Van Egmond, of Hullett. and belonged to two of the most ancient and aristocratic of early European families, being directly descended, on his father's side, (through William the Conqueror and the -Dukes of Saxony) tram Henry the Fowler, first Emperor of United Germany. From this fam ily were descended many persons of distinction in Europe, among them William Prince of Orange (William I, King of Holland).
