School News,
PUBLIC SCHOOL. NEW&
On Friday, June 15, Grades 6, 7
and 8 went to the Ontario Agri-
cultural College at Guelph. We had
a very lovely time, and 1 think ev-
eryone enjoyed it very much. In
the morning we went through the
greenhouses and several of the
buildings. After dinner we saw the
livestock parade and many displays.
Everyone's feeling fine now the
exams. ere over, although some may
not be too happy when the results
are out a week from this Friday.
Miss Savauge sent several pieces
of art to the Toronto Exhibition.
One brought forth honors for our
school. Anyone going down, please
look for the Elementary Art dis-
plays.
We are all working hard on our
school magazine. We expect •it to
be completed the end of this. week.
ST. JAMES' SCHOOL NEWS
In January the magazine, "Cana-
dian Teacher," announced its
fourth annual printing contest. for.
pupils who would not be more than
10 on June 1, 1951. The contest
was divided among three groups,;
viz: Group A: Schools of three or
more room located in the Central
and Western Provinces (Quebec to
British Columbia inclusive); Group
B: Schools of one or two rooms lo-
cated in the Central or Western
Provinces; Group C: Schools lo-
cated in the Maritimes, regardless
of the number of rooms.
Eight cash prizes were awarded
to each group. Thirty-five merch-
andise prizes were awarded to con-
testants whose entries were con-
sidered most deserving by the
judges.
The results of the contest have
just been published in the June is-
sue of the magazine. Marie Row-
land, of this school, won thirteenth
prize, a nicely bound copy of
"Black Beauty," Honorary men-
tion was given the first 25 in order
of merit. In this group, John Mid-
degal and Lois Maloney held llth
and 12th places, respectively. Con-
gratulations Marie, John and Lois!
Civics Club
During the past year a Civics
Club was organized among the pup-
ils of Grades VII and VIII. The of-
ficers elected were as follows:
President, Ronald Frieday; vice-
president, Joe Williams; recording
secretary, Shirley Bedard; cor-
responding secretary, Ruth Sills;
adviser, Sister M. St. Peter.
The club has established its con-
stitution and its aim is to endeav-
or to learn how to become good

couple left for a honeymoon in

A pretty June wedding took
place at Main St. United Church
parsonage; Mitchell, on Saturday,
June 16, at 12 o'clock noon, when
Rev. A. H. Johnston united in mar-
riage Marion Susan, daughter df
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Boyd, St.
David St., Mitchell, and Mr. Hugh
A. Coiquhoun, son of Mr. Lloyd
Coiquhoun, Staffa, and the late
Mrs. Colquhoun. The bride, given
in marriage by her father, wore a
navy blue gabardine suit with pink
accessories and corsage of pink
roses. Mrs. Alvin Houze was her
sister's bridesmaid, wearing a grey
gabardine suit with matching ac-
cessories and a corsage of yellow
roses- Mr. Alvin Houze was best
man. The parsonage was decorat-
ed with baskets of peonies and
lupins. .
Following"'the Cbremony a wedr
ding dinner was served at the
home of the bride's parents, where
Mrs- Boyd received dressed in sky
blue crepe with white accessories
and corsage of red roses and Tern.
The rooms were attractive with
pink .and white streamers and ,bas-
kets of matching peonies. The
bridle's table was centredi-with a
three-tier wedding cake and pink
rosebuds. Miss Dorothy Keyes,
Miss Barbara Wright and Miss Ver-
na Parsons served the guests. Af-
ter a motor trip to Faidoner, N.Y.,
and other American cities the cou-
ple will reside at Staffa. Guests
were present from Carlingford,
Stratford, Staffa, Mitchell and To-
ionto.
Feeney - Bastian
The altar of St. John's Church,
Kitchener, was adorned with pink
peonies on Saturday, June 16, for
the Sodality wedding of Blanche
Mary, only daughter of Mr. Emil
Bastian and the late Mrs. Bastian,
Kitchener, to Mr. Martin Barry
Feeney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mar-
tain Feeney, Dublin. Rev. J. A.
Feeney, St. Peter's Cathedral, Lon-
don, uncle of the bridegroom, of-
ficiated, at the ceremony and the
Nuptial Mass, and the Sodality
choir sang.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a floor -length gown
of white slipper satin, designed
with white lace yoke and lily point
sleeves. Her full-length veil of il-
lusion was held by a bandeau trim-
woodie attended a' meeting of the
Town Council to acquire some
knowledge of the work accomplish-
ed by the members of the council.
Committees have been appointed
to secure information on the fol-
lowing: (1) What the community
is doing to protect the health of
its citizens; (2) What the commun-
ity does to protect its citizens from
fire. Inspiration, as well as infor-
mation, is necessary in order to
become good citizens. Inspiration
is to be obtained from the teach-
ings of Christ that have to do with
social' living. This implies study
and practice of the Ten Command-
ments given by God to Moses, and
obedience to the command of
Christ, "Thou shalt love thy neigh-
bor as thyself."

groom's mother, wearing navy blue
with white accessories. Each wore
a corsage of red and white roses.
-For the honeymoon trip to Mid-
land and Northern Ontario, the
bride chose a brown gabardine suit
with pink accessories and corsage
of pink orchids. On their return,
Mr. and Mrs. Feeney will reside at
216 Victoria St., Kitchener. Guests
were present from Detroit, Wind-
sor, London, Exeter, Dublin, Sea -
forth, Toronto and Thorold.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Evans, Dub-
lin, celebrated their 25th wedding
anniversary on Saturday. A High
Mass' of Thanksgiving was offered
at St. Patrick's Church, Rev. Dr.
Ffoulkes officiating. A family din-
ner was• served at their home,
when Mr. and Mrs. Evans received
suitable gifts from their family.
Mrs. Evans was formerly Miss
Camilla Murray, eldest daughter of
Mrs. Louise Murray and the late
John Murray, McKillop Township.
They have two daughters, (Marie)
Mrs. Jack Cleary, Chatham, and
Joan, at home; also one son, Billy,
Dublin.

ing the reception the harppy eouple
left on a trip to Niagara Falls, the
bride travelling in a navy blue suit
similar to that of the groom, with
pink accessories. On their return
they will live in Seaforth. Guests
were present from Seaforth,. Lon-
don, Uxbridge, Clinton, Brucefield,
Mildmay, and St. Columban.
MacLean - Smith
Rev. Walter Becker officiated at
a double ring ceremony in St. Pet-
er's
eter's Lutheran Church, Brodhagen,
when Arbutus Georgina Smith was
united in marriage to David Ross
MacLean. The bride is the second
eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Smith, R.R. 1, Walton, and
the bridegroom is the youngest son
of Mr. and Mrs. David MacLean,.
R.R. 3, Seaforth. Guest pews were
marked with clusters of pink and
white flowers tied with satin bows
and yellow roses adorned the altar.
Mr. Calvin Diesel, Brodhagen, cou-
sin of the bride, played traditional
wedding music before the cere-
mony and Mendelssohn's Wedding
March as processional music.
Gowned in blue and white floral
nylon and white accessories and
rose corsage, the soloist, Miss Vel-
ma Pomrenke, Brodhagen, sang "0
Perfect Love" and "The Lord's
Prayer." The bride, given in mar-
riage by her father, wore a white
satin period gown with yoke of im-
ported lace and long sleeves. Her
gown, featuring a satin and lace
peplum, had a slight train and her
basque bodice was embroidered in
Rowers, studded with tiny seed
Pearls. Her long veil of silk illu-
sion net was appliqued with lace
matching her gown. She wore a
single strand of pearls and carried
an arm bouquet of red roses. The
bride was attended by her three
sisters, maid of honor, Miss Kath-
leen Smith, Atwood, and brides-
maids. Miss Leona Smith, N.A.,
Seaforth, and Miss Donna Mae
Smith, R.R. 1, Walton. Their gowns
made in identical style, were of ap-
ple green, pink, and yellow em-
broidered nylon net over nylon taf-
feta. The gowns were fashioned
with full skirts and short bolero
topk. Their pearl -studded net head-
dresses and gloves of net matched
their gowns. The maid of honor
wore a triple strand of pearls and
pearl ear -rings, and carried yellow
roses and mauve sweet peas. The
other . attendants carried nosegays
of mixed flowers. The flower -girl,
Sandra Bennewies, accompanied
the ring -bearer, Roger Sholdice,
who carried the rings on a small
heartshaped satin pillow. Sandra
was wearing a powder blue nylon
taffeta full -skirted frock with ruf-
fled neckline and matching head-
dress. She carried a pink nosegay.
The ring -bearer wore white trous-
ers and a navy jacket. Mr. Bruce
MacLean and Mr. Jack MacLean,
brothers of the bridegroom, were
his attendants and the ushers were
Mr. Ervin Swint, Mi,erton, and
Mr. John Oldfield, Settif° h.

navy accessories. She wore a red
rbse corsage.
For a wedding trip to Walnut
Springs, Texas, the bride donned
a gray gabardine suit with red.
accessories and matching rose cor-
sage. Mr. and Mrs. MacLean will
reside in Seaforth. Guests were
present from Atwood, Mitchell,
Milverton, Stratford, Carlingford,
Seaforth and Hensall.
