The new $150,000 mill to replace
the one burnt December 28, is near-
ing completion, and will be ready
for business. the first week in July,
Mr. John Thompson stated Wed-
nesday. Sixteen cement tanks, 50
feet high, 16 feet in diameter, and
holding 100,000 bushels of grain
and beans, are being built. Thir-
teen have been completed to date.
Forty-five men are employed by
the Campbell Construction Co., of
Ridgetown, which is in charge.
The building, 108 feet by 72 feet,
is being built on Richmond St,
South. Only one accident has been
reported up to date. Tuesday while
loading slabs, one of the heavy
cement blocks fell on the foot of
Donald Dark, of Rodney, crushing
it. He received' treatment at the
office of Dr. J. C. Goddard.

the Superteat Service Station, Seaforth.

Thirty-eight members of Kippen
East W.I. chartered a bus last
Thursday and enjoyed a day at the
Zoological Gardens, Detroit. They
report a wonderful trip.
Entertains Baby Band
The Women's Missionary Society
of Chiseihurst United Church en-
tertained the members of the Baby
Band in the schoolroom of the
church Tuesday afternoon at their
regular meeting. Mrs. T. Brintnell,
the president, took the ohair and
conducted the worship period. Mrs.
Robt. Boyce very ably presented
the fifth chapter of the study book,
"Higher Education in Japan." Mrs.
Carl Stoneman was pianist for the
meeting. At the conclusion of the
meeting the Women's Association
met for a business setsion with
President Mrs. John Glenn' presid-
ing_. Various items of business
were discussed, including the
painting of the exterior of the
church. The 'ladies decided to un-
dertake this project. Luncheon was
served. Guests from Hensall were
Mrs. W. J. Rogers and Mrs. R. J.
Drysdale.
The Women's Auxiliary of St.
Paul's Anglican Church, Hensall,
were the guests of. Trivitt Memor-
ial W.A., Exeter, Tuesday' after-
noon. The meeting, held in the
parish hall, had as their guest
speaker, Mrs. A. Calder, Diocesan
President of Huron Deanery, who
gave a very informative address
on the work of the W.A. Saints -
bury and Grand • Bend societies
were present.
Mr. Ernie Chipchase has taken
over the McCall-Frontenac gas sta-
tion. Mr. John Reid, who has been
.in charge for the past number of
years, expects to go West.
Mrs. Matthew England, who re-
cently fractured her hip and was
a patient at Victoria Hospital, Lon
don, and for the past few weeks
has been cared for at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. B. Finkbeiner,
of Crediton, returned home last
Thursday. sen
Mrs. Eva Carlile, Mrs. A. Logan,
Mrs. Harvey and Mrs. C. 'Stephen-
son, spent Wednesday in London.
Mrs. Morley Chellew, the former
Ola Cook, and her daughters' Car-
olyn, of Los Angeles, California,
expect to leave the 13th of June to
spend the summer months with the
former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.

Peter Kilpatrick, 83, has arrived

in the Legion Hall Wednesday
night, the dance set of Fred Har-
burn won 'first prize. They are as
follows: Mrs. Bruce Armstrong,

Brintnell and Robert Hatter, Exe-

In the old-time fiddlers' contest
under 60 class, Nelson Howe won
first, and in the over 60 class, Wm.
Hyde also won lst. In the step -
dancing contest, Mrs. B. Arm-
strong, Staffa, and Mrs. E. Dick
won the prizes for the ladies, and
the gentlemen who won were Ken-
neth McKellar, Staffa, and Robert
Hatter, Exeter.
Mrs. M. Hedden won a string of
pearls in a contest over the radio.
Prominent Brucefield
Resident Passes
Funeral services were held Tues-
day afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in
Brucefield United Church for Hugh
Aikenhead, Brucefield, who died" in
Clinton Public Hospital on Sunday
morning. He (had celebrated bis
81st birthday on Friday at his
home with Ms wife and family. He
was in good 'health and his sudden
death was a shock to the commun-
ity. Born near Brucefield in Stan-
ley. Township, the married the for-
mer Annie Cameron of this vicin-
ity, and they lived on the farm on
which he was born until eight
years ago, when they moved into
Brucefield village. He was a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. James
Aikenhead. An Elder of Brucefield
United Church, be was active in
all church work. Besides his wife
he is survived, by three daughters:
Mrs. Ab. Zapfe, Brucefieid; Miss
Margaret Aikenilead, London, and
Mrs. Yeoman Aldwinkle, Varna;
five brothers, Frank, Hensall; Mac,
London; Duncan, Seaforth; Dr. A.
E. Aikenhead, Calgary, Alta., and'
Dr. William Aikenhead, Toronto;'
two sisters, Mrs. John Caskey,
Portage La Prairie, and Mrs. T. B.
Baird, Brucefield. One brother,
John, predeceased him. The body
rested at the Beattie . Funeral
Home, Clinton, until Tuesday. Rev.

Mrs. Clarence Stephenson and
Mrs. Louis Taylor, Varna, were al-
so hostesses to a shower at the
former's home on the Parr Line on
Thursday evening, when relatives
and friends gathered to honor Miss
Myrtle Taylor on her approaching
marriage. Guests were present
from Winthrop, Walton, Russel,
Manitoba, Clinton, Brucefield and
Varna. A mock wedding was stag-
ed with the following very ably
taking part: Blushing bride, Ruby
Webster; shy ,bridegroom, Beatrice
Taylor; bridesmaid, Ferns Cole-
man; groomsman, Marjorie Web-
ster; father of the bride, Bertha
Taylor;. minister, Willa Taylor.
The bride-to-be was then escorted
to a gaily decorated chair and an
address read by Mrs. WaL Web-
ster and gifts presented by Mrs.
Stephenson and Mrs, Taylor.
Myrtle made a suitable reply, and
lunch was served.
TheJune meeting of the W.M.S.
was held on Thursday evening,
June 7, in the church. The theme
of the meeting was • Worship and
Work. Mrs: W. R. Stephenson op-
ened' the meeting with the hymn,
"Take Time To Be Holy," followed
by Scripture reading by Mrs, Geo.
Reid from Mark 6:1-5 and John 17:
1-5; Mrs. Gordon Johnston read
Acts 13:1-3, lst Thessalonians, 2:9-
12 and "3:6-13, while Mrs. W. R.
Stephenson read from Phillipians
2:12-13, James 1:22-27 and. 2:12-17.
Minutes of the last meeting were
read and their adoption seconded
by Miss Rachel' :Johnston. Six
members were present and three
calls' 'to shut-ins were reported.
The roll call for nextmeeting is
to relate to the word "Sunshine."
It was decided to have a joint
meeting with the W.A. for next
meeting, which will be held . the
last Wednesday in June. A letter
had been received from Mrs. Bell
and Art, thanking the society and
the ladies who remembered her
while a patient in the hospital. A
letter was read from Mrs. A. Mc-
Lellan,
o-Lellan, of Eglnondville, inviting the
ladies of the congregation to their
meeting on June 21, the invitation
to be accepted with thanks. Mrs.
W. R. Stephenson then read an in-
teresting story, "Pioneering in
Tibet." Mrs. Geo. Reid read a let-
ter which was written in the year
book by Miss Christena McDougall,
Trinidad, the missiong whom
this society is praying for, telling
of her work. Mrs. Reid led in
prayer and the hymn, "Stand Up,
Stand Up For Jesus" was sung, fol-
lowed by the benediction.
