Lady Bowlers Hold Bridge,—
an
ridge —an enjoyable bridge party was held
at the home of Mrs. G. A. Whit-
ney Monday evening, which was
sponsored by the Ladies' Bowling
Club. There were twenty ladies
competing, and the prize donated
by Mrs. J. E. Keating was won by
Mrs. G. C. Brightrall. Following
the cards a dainty lunch was serv-
ed by the hostess and the social
committee, with Mrs. M. Oharrette,

W. 1. To Meet Tuesday. — The
Seaforth Women's Institute will
hold its June meeting at the home
of Mrs. Robt. Scott on Tuesday, at
2 p.m. The roll call will be an-
swered by "The flower I like best,
and why." The guest speaker will
be Mrs., Robt. McKercher. The
standing committees are asked to
bring their programs for the com-
ing year. Anyone wishing to have
a meeting at her home is invited•
to put her name in at this meeting.

iate. Surviving are two sisters, Ma -
tilde, and Elizabeth, both at home.
One brother, Robert Scott, died 32
Years ago. Deceased was a mem-
ber of First Presbyterian Church.
In the absence of his minister,
Rev. D. G. Campbell, Rev. George
Lamond, of Knox Presbyterian
Church, Mitchell, officiated at the
funeral service held at the G. A.
Whitney funeral home on Monday
afternoon. The pallbearers were
Dr. F. S. Harburn, W. D. Smith,
Mac Scott, Milton Stewart, Albert
Harrison and Jas. Hogg. Interment
was in Maitlandbank cemetery.
Attend Exercises At University.
—Among those attending the con-
vocation exercises at the Univers-
ity of Western Ontario on Satur-
day were: Mrs. C. D. Ryan, Sea -
forth; Mr. F. J. Ryan, Toronto;
Miss Helene Quarry, Burlington;
Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Fuller, Lon-
don; Miss Winifred Prendergast,
London; Miss Shirley Prout and
Miss Eleanor Ellingwood, Windsor.
They were the guests at the gradu-
ation of Miss Mary C. Ryan, who
received her honour B.A. degree in
History. Miss Ryan expects to at-
tend the Ontario College of Edu-
cation in the fall.

Former Seaforth Contractor Dies.
—August Guhr, construction con-
tractor, died Friday in Beck Mem-
orial Sanatorium, London, in this
86th year. He bad been in the sana-
torium for the past eight years.
Mr. Guhr was born in Wisconsin,
U.S. He was predeceased by his
wile in 1938, and a daughte;, Miss
ed in Seaforth about 35 years ago,
when he did construction work
here..The body rested at the Ben-
nett and Pincombe funeral home
until noon Saturday, when it was
taken to St. Peter's Lutheran
Ohurch cemetery at Zurich for ser-
vice and interment at 3 o'clock. •
Death of Mrs. J. H. Hayes.—The
death took place on Thursday of
Last week at ther home in Egmond-
ville of Annie M. Martin, wife of
J. II. Hayes, in her 80th year. She
had lived all her life in Egmond-
ville, and was the daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martin.
Mrs. Hayes was a member of
Northside United Church. The fun-
eral was held from the G. A. Whit-
ney funeral home on Saturday at
2 o'clock with Rev. A. W. Gardiner
and Rev. Elford officiating. The
pallbearers were. Rod. McLean, Al-
bert Baker, Harold Jackson, James
Webster, Hartman Huisser and
Min Forbes. Interment was in
Maitlandbank cemetery.
Death of John McGavin.—One of
the oldest residents of Tucker -
smith in the person of John Mc -
Gavin, passed away at Scott Mem-
orial Hospital on Tuesday morn-
ing in his 85th year. Born in Mc-
Killop, he was married on Jan. 10,
1900, to Victoria C. Leatherland,
who survives him, together with
one sister, Miss Mary McGavin, at
home, and three brothers, Dr. Ed-
win II. and Alfred, of Windsor, and
Arthur E., of Reading, Penn. Mr.
McGavin was a good farmer and
known to all as a most congenial
and hospitable neighbor. He was
a member of Nortbside United
Church. The funeral was held
Thursday afternoon from the Box
Funeral Chapel, with Rev. D.
D. A. MacMillan officiating. Dur -
the service, Mr. James A. Stew-
art sang "Face To Face," accom-
panied by Mrs. Stewart. The pall-
bearers were Eliner Cameron, Wil-
fred Coleman, Chas. MeGavin„Gor-
Alex Dennis. Interment Vas in,
Maitlandbank cemetery.

tion exercises at the University of
Toronto on Wednesday afternoon,
when Oban MacTavish was one of
the graduating class.

School.

to Scott Memorial Hospital.
