choir, entered the church with
their leader, Mrs. W. Scott, who
had charge of the service. Aesist-
ing with Scripture readings were
Ina Taylor and Alice Caldwell;
Eileen McCartney •read two poems.
The candle lighting was. conducted
by 'five girls: Margaret Zapfe lit
the first for Light; Verna Eyre lit
the second for Health; Ann Haugh,
the third, for Truth; Marion 'Ross,
the fourth for Worship, and Ruth
Snelling, the fifth for Service. The
choir sang a beautiful anthem,
"Whom Seek Ye, Lowly Shep-
berde?" Following singing of car-
ols, a film was shown.,
On Monday evening, pupils of S.
S. No. 3, Tuckersmith, under the
dllrection of Mrs. Norman, present-
ed a varied' and interesting Christ-
mas concert, Santa Claus arrived
and presented gifts.
Santa Claus was also present at
S S. No. 10, Stanisy, Tuesday night
when the pupils, under the direc-
tion of Miss Turner, presented an
excellent program of choruses,
dances, drills, recitations and plays.
There was a large crowd present,

Joy" will be told in sermon and
song at Carmel Presbyterian
Church on Sullday. Special musical
selections are being prepared by
the choir, under the direction of
J. L. Nicol. The evening service at
7 o'clock will feature Christmas
"music throughout, with carols and,
anthems by congregation and
choir, and with Mrs. Robt. Middle-
ton as guest soloist, rendering
"Jesu Bambino." At the morning
service the guest soloist will be
Miss Jeah. Henderson.
The Sunday school Christmas
party will be held) Friday in the

conducted by Rev. W.' J. Rogers,
carol singing was featured.. Mr. J.
Horton provided violin accompani-
ment throughout the service.
On Sunday at the morning ser-
vice in Hensall United Church, Rev.
W. J. Rogers chose the theme, "A
Day Of Glad' Tidings." The choir
rendered the anthem, "Draw Nigh
To God,"ethe solo being taken by
Miss Mary Goodwin. A Christmas
cantata, "King All Glorious," is be-
ing prepared by the choir to be
presented Sunday evening. Special
numbers by the juniors will be giv-
en under the direction of Mr. S.
G. Rennie, choir leader, and Miss'
Greta Lammte, organist.
Hundreds of children from the
village and surrounding district
attended theeannual Christmas par-
ty sponsored by the Chamber of
Commerce and Hensall Branch of
the Canadian Legion en Saturday.
Rev. W. J. Rogers spoke •briefly
and introduced Santa •Claus to the;
crowd, who treated the youngsters
to bags of candy, oranges, nuts,
etc., after which a free picture
show was held in the Town Hall,
which was filled to overflowing,1
many having to stand.
Mr, Cornelious Cook was taken I
to St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
last week in the interests of his
health.

Death of James Earl Sproat
James Earl Sproat passed atfay
Friday. 'Dec. 15, at his late resi-
dence. Mr. Sproat was in his 60th
year, being a successful farmer all f
his life on the 2nd concession of i
Tuckersmith, where he was born.
He was a member of St. Andr'ew's
United Church, Kippen. Mr. Sproat
was of a quiet and retiring dis-
position and admired by all who!
knew him_ Surviving are his wife,
the former Myrtle "McLean; one
son, Dr. William Sproat, Jr.. Wind-
sor; one brother, Dr. W. C. Sproat,
Stratford, and a sister, Mrs. Jack
Allen, North Bay. Private funeral
service was held from the Bon-
thron Funeral Home, Hensel], on
Monday, at 2 p.m.. conducted by
Rev. A. E. Hinton. Burial was in
the family plot at Hensall • Union
Cemetery.
Dies in Regina
Word has been received here of
the death at Regina, Sask., on Nov.
29, of Francis Arthur Demorest.
husband of the former Florence
Reynolds, of Hensall. Born in 1874
in Cleveland, Ohio, of Canadian
parents, Mr. Demurest went at an
early age to Ontarie and in 1878
travelled to Winnipeg, Man.. by
way of the United States and the
Red River. He was associated with
newspaper work in Western Can-
ada for over 50 years, and was for
35 years manager of the Toronto
Type Foundry Co.. in Regina. In
addition to his wife, she leaves a
daughter. Mrs. Gordon Guest, of
Ottawa, and, two brothers in West-
ern Canada.
Private funeral services for the
late Urban Brown, who passed
away Monday at Clinton Public
Hospital, were held' from Bonthron
Furneral Home, Hensel], Dec. 21,
with Rev, W. J. Rogers officiating.
Interment was in Exeter cemetery.
Rev. Father Kenneth Dietrich. of
the Goshen Line, who was ordain-
ed as priest at ScarboroMissions,
Toronto, will sing bis first Mass at
St_ Boniface Church, Zurich. Sun-
day. at 10 o'clock. Dinner for the
relatives will be served at the Com-
munity Hall. Rev. Father Dietrich
expects to leave for Cbina as a
missionary.
