Presbyterian W. M. S. Meets.—
An interesting meeting was theld
in First Church on Tuesday by the
Senior Auxiliary of the Women's
Missionary Society of the Presby-
terian Church in Canada. Mrs.
Robert Eberhart, president, open-
ed the meeting by a few appropri-
ate remarks, followed by a short
prayer. The reports of the various
secretaries were heard, also the
treasurer's report, It was announc-
ed that any one wishing to attend
the Presbyterial meeting in Blyth
September 12, send her name to
Mrs. Robert Eberhart or Mrs. John
Thompson. Mrs. James Kerr's
group was responsible for the pro-

'Mrs. Thomas Govenlock's singing
of "0 Canada" was pleasing and
much appreciated. The speaker
for the afternoon was Mrs. James
Kerr, whose talk on Korea was
preceded by an interesting descrip-
tion of the people by Mrs. Ged-
des. Mrs. Kerr gave an instruc-
tive and animated interpretation
of the chapter in the study book
dealing with the history and
geography of Korea. The offering
was taken by Mrs. Harry Stewart
and the closing prayer by Mrs.
John Beattie. Mrs. W. Manson's
group is in charge of the Septem-
ber meeting.
Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary Has
M eeti ng. — "Thornton Hall," • the
home of Mrs. James F. Scott, was
the scene of the August meeting
of the Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary
of- First Presbyterian Church on
Tuesday evening, when about 40
ladies gathered. Mrs. H. R. Scott
presided over the business period,
when it was decided to hold a
birthday tea, following the Sep-
tember meeting, each member to
bring a guest. Miss Belle Camp-
bell read au interesting letter from
Rev. Malcolm Ransom, of China,
telling of some of the terrifying
things that are done in China. The
devotional period was presided ov-
er by Mrs. H. E. Smith, when Mrs.
J. E. Daley read the 103rd Psalm.
Mrs. James Murray read the Glad
Tidings Prayer, and Mrs. Scott
dedicated the offering with prayer.
Mrs. H. E. Smith told of the life
of the late Miss Caroline MacDon-
ald, of Wingharn, who went to Ja-
pan in 1904. She did a wonderful
work among the prisoners in the
camps. She was invalided home,
and was buried in Wingham, her
native land. The meeting closed
with the singing of "From Green-
land's Icy Mountains," followed by
the Lord's Prayer. Following the
meeting lunch was served by the
hostess and her committee.

Gallop - Cockwell.—A quiet wed-
ding was solemnized at Northside
United Church Parsonage on Wed-
nesday afternoon, August 23 at 2
o'clock, when Helen June, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex H. Cock -
well, of Donegal, was united in
marriage to Norman A. Gallop, son
of Mr. Joseph Gallop, also of Done-
gal, and the late Mrs. Gallop. Rev.
D. A. MacMillan performed the
ceremony. Following a wedding
trip to London, Toronto and points
north, Mr. and Mrs. Gallop will re-
side on the groom's farm at At-
wood.

Dies in Paris, France. — Well-
known in Regina as an optometrist
since 1930, Margaret Duff, 9 Corn-
wall Court, died Friday in Paris.
France, following a stroke. With
Miss Duff in Paris at the time of
her death was her sister, Mrs. J.
B. Shaw, also of 9 Cornwall Court,
Regina. The two were among Can-
adian Business and Professional
Women's Club members presently
on a tour of Europe. Besides her
sister, Miss Duff is survived by a
nephew, Douglas Shaw, 21 Corn-
wall Court. Mr. Shaw left by air
for Paris to look after funeral ar-
rangements. Miss Duff was born
itt Bluevale, Ont., going west to
Crystal City, Man., with her fam-
ily in the early 1900's. She was the
daughter of W. G. Duff, who for
many years taught school at Rox-
boro. Mrs. J. M. Govenlock, who
was a pupil of the late Mr. Duff,
recalls that he was highly popular
and active in the community. Lat-
er the family moved to Regina
and Miss Duff took her apprentice-
ship training with H. S. McClung.
She opened her own office in the
Trading Co. building about 1930.
Miss Duff was a long-time member
of Knox United Church and
member of the church choir. She
was also active in the League of
omen Voters, was at one time
secretary of the Regina branch of
the Business and Professional Wo-
men's Club and was a member of
the provincial optometric society.
Miss Duff and her sister left for
the European tour .Tuly 11 and
were to have returned on the Em-
press of France August 29.

The Elimville W.I. entertained
the W.I. of Hurondale and Kirkton
on Wednesday afternoon, and in
spite of the busy harvest weather
about 75 ladies were present. Mrs.
Ken Johns, president, had charge
of the meeting, which opened by
singing of the Ode and repeating
the W.I. Creed. Mrs. A. Rundle,
of Hurondale, gave the topic,
"Homes Are the Stepping Stones
of a Nation." Mrs. Haun sang a
lovely solo, "Sally," accompanied
by Mrs. Phil Johns on the piano.
Mrs. A. Pym gave a reading, "To-
morrow," and Mrs. Earl Watson,
of Kirkton, gave a piano solo. Miss
Elva Morley introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Beatrice Dixon, of
Brinsley, who told of her trip bst
air to England and visiting the:
walled city of Chester and Lon-
don and of visiting the cemetery
where her son's and other R.C.A.F.
graves are. Mrs. G. Frayne play-
ed two lively violin selections, ac-
companied Sy Mrs. Bob Jeffery, of
Hurondale. A delicious lunch was
served on the lawn around the
hall, after which Mrs. Moir, of
Hurondale, and Mrs. Switzer, of
Kirkton, thanked the Elimville
ladies for the social time enjoy-
ed by all.
