Funeral of John A. Hodgert
One of the largest funerals in
the Exeter district was held on
Saturday afternoon when over 200
residents of Usborne Township and
Exeter paid their last respects to
John A. Hodgert, who passed away
on Wednesday of last week. The
service was conducted by Rev.
Harold Snell, his minister, and a
former minister, Rev. James An-
thony, who paid glowing tribute to
the deceased. Mr. Wm. Smith sang
"Abide With Me," accompanied by
Mr, Wein. The service at the
graveside was conducted by the
I.O.O.F. Interment was in Exeter
cemetery.
KIPPEN
The June meeting of the Kippen
East Women's Institute will be
held Monday, June 19, at 8:30 p.m.
in the Legion rooms in Hensall.
The members of the Seaforth and
Hensall Women's Institutes will be
guests at this. meeting. The roll
call will be answered by "Your
maiden name." This being the
Home Economics meeting, lantern
slides on "Home Beautification"
will be shown.

Feted, Will Live in Seaforth
At a gathering of their friends
at the home of Mrs, John Soldan,
Zurich, the Misses Dollie and Mary
Hagan were given a farewell party
Wednesday evening. The following
address was read and presentation
made:
"Dear Mary and Dollie: In the
midst of the happiness of this eve-
ning among your friends, we ask
you to pause for a brief while that
we may convey to you our thoughts
at this particular time in your
lives. We have realized with feel-
ings of regret the circumstances
which have caused you to have to
make a change in your place of
living, and we are mindful of what
it means to have you leave us.
Recalling the great spirit of friend-
liness and good -will that has been
extended through many years from
the Hagan family to your many
friends, neighbors and all who have
passed your way, the willingness
to assist others in tide of neces-
sity, the kind sympathies to those
with adversities, the loyalty given
your friends. your church and the
community in which you lived, your
demands for the highest of ideals
and fairest of judgments and your
unchhilengeable spirit of fortitude
in. your own reverses, have ear-
marked your family as one of the
highest merit and worthy of our
greatest respect. It would be super-
fluous words to say you witl be
missed. You go to your new home
in Seaforth with our host of good
wishes. As a token of remembrance
we ask you to accept this floor

The Women's Missionary Society
of Carmel Presbyterian Church ob-
served their 60th anniversary in
the schoolroom of the church on
Thursday afternoon, June 8, and
entertained as their gfiests•the aux-
iliaries from the United anis St.
Paul's Churches, and members of
the executive of Huron Presbyter-
ial. The schoolroom was lovely
with baskets of early summer
blooms. Mrs. J. W. Bonthron and
Mrs. C. S. Hudson were the recep-
tion committee.
President Mrs. C. S. Hudson was
in the chair and extended the wel-
come. The opening hymn, "More
Love To Thee, 0 Christ," was chos-
en by Mrs. H. Arnold. the only
charter member living since the in-
ception of the organization, and
who was unable to be present. The
Scripture reading was read by Mrs.
Albert Taylor, of Goderich, and
prayer was offered by Mrs. Gordon
Bisset, Goderich. Mrs. W. A. Mac -
Laren, Goderich, rendered a pleas-
ing solo, "Leave It With Him,"
Mrs. Malcolm Dougall accompany-
ing at the piano.
Mrs. R. Y. MacLaren introduced
the guest speaker, Dr. Annabel
MacEwan, of London, former medi-
cal missionary in India, who chose
for her theme, "What is the Qual-
ity of Your Christian Lite?" Dr.
MacIwan said that this generation
is to blame for ignorance of young-
er people concerning the Bible.
She concluded her very inspiring
message with the quotations, "The
Church wants better methods, but
God wants better people."
Mrs. Maude Hedden and Mrs.
Geo. Hess rendered a duet, "Have
You Been in the Garden With
Jesus?" with Mrs. T. J. Sherritt at
the piano. Mrs. D. J. Lane, Gode-
rich, gave the closing prayer. A
delicious luncheon was served, top-
ped off with a birthday cake made
and decorated by Mrs. W. R. Dav-
idson and Mrs. Geo. Walker. The
table, which centred the three-tier
birthday cake, was attractive with
flowers. Mrs. W. B. Cross and Mrs.
W. O. Goodwin expressed thanks
on behalf of the auxiliaries of
Hensall and St. Paul's Church.
St. Paul's Anglican Church, love-
ly with early summer flowers, ob-
served its 73rd anniversary Sun-
day, June 11, at 10 a,m., with a
large congregation, Rev, C. J.
Queen, B.A„ of Ingersoll, was the
guest speaker, and presented a
very inspiring message. He also
gave an outline of the new billion
and a half dollar Huron College
being 'built in London. A full choir
under the direction of Robt. Cam-
eron, rendered special music. •

visited last week with her grand-
mother, Mrs. T. W. Parlmer, and

Public funeral services for the
late Matthew Millar Carmichael
were held from Bonthron's Fun-
eral Home, Monday, June 12, at
2:30 p.m., Rev. H. Daynard, Staffa.
officiating. Burial was in Staffa
cemetery. 'Mr.Carmichael, a vet-
eran of the First World War, pass-
ed away. in Westminster Hospital.
Lonlon, on Friday, where he had
been a patient since November,
1948. He was in his 77th year.
Born in Staffa, he spent a great
many years in Regina, Victoria and
Vancouver, Prior to admittance to
Westminster Hospital he made his
home with his sister, Mrs, J. R.
Stewart, Usborne Twp. His wife
Predeceased him some years ago.
