Euchre and Dance
Mae Lane Auxiliary. Meets.—The
Mae Lane Auxiliary held their
October meeting in Northside
United Church with a good at-
tendance. The president, Miss
Vera Mole, was in the chair. Mrs.
George Johnston, lst vice-president
opened the meeting with a reading
entitled, "Sunday is a Family Day.”
Hymn 488, "Come, Let Us Sing of
a Wonderful Love," was sung, af-
ter which Mrs. Ross Savauge led
in prayer. The visiting committee
for next month will be Mrs. Har-
old Connell and. Mrs. (Dr.) Turn-
bull. Splendid reports of the Pres-
byterial, held at Brucefield, were
ably taken by Mrs. Walden, of the
morning session, and the afternoon
by Mrs. E. H. Close. Mrs. Leem-
ing, the temperance leader, gave
an interesting talk. Miss Rena
Fennell took charge of the second
part of the meeting. Hymn 500,
"Take Time To Be Holy," was
sung, after which. "The Lord's
Prayer" was repeated in unison. A
duet entitled, "Was That .Some-
body You?" was sweetly rendered
by Gwendolyn Christie and Marion
Chamberlain. Miss Edith Hoag
read the Scripture lesson, 1 Corin-
thians, chap. 2. Miss McIntyre
gave the topic in a most interest-
ing manner, taken from the new
study book. Hymn 490, "I Am
Thine, 0 Lord," was sung." The
meeting closed with the Mizpah
benediction,
Has Thankoffering Meeting.—The
Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary of
First Presbyterian Church held
their annual thankoffering meeting
n Tuesday evening. The president,
Mrs. J. F. Scott, conducted the
meeting. The Scripture reading
was taken by Mrs. John E. Daley
and the prayer by Miss Belle
Camr.hell. The guest speaker, Miss
Elsie Davidson, of Newton, who is
a sister of the late Mrs, M. A.
Reid, was introduced by the presi-
dent. Miss Davidson has been a
missionary teacher in Berbice High
School in New Amsterdam- for
three years, and also working
among women's and young people's
groups. She gave a most interest-
ing and inspiring talk on her work
in New Amsterdam, telling about
the people, climatic conditions and
the every -day life of the mission-
ary. bliss Davidson has a pleasing
personality, a keen sense of humor
and the faculty of bringing her ex-
periences very near to her\ audi-
ence. She stressed the great need
of missionary effort, at home and
abroad, and urged the members of
the auxiliary to greater work and
sacrifice for such a worthy cause.
Mrs. J. A. Munn and Miss P. Pat-
erson sang a pleasing duet, "Abide
,lith Me." While the offering was
being received by Mrs, W. A.
Wright and Mrs. T. McAdam, Mrs.
M. R. Rennie gave a piano solo
that was much appreciated. The
offertory prayer -was given by Mrs.
H. R. Scott and the closing prayer
by Mrs. W. J. Thompson. The of-
fering amounted to $93. Hensal]
ladies present at the meeting were
Mrs. W. R. Davidson, Mrs. George
Walker and Mrs. Hudson.

Mrs. Harold Sellars was host to
a gathering of 85 friends on Mon-
day evening when they met to
honor Miss Marie Bennett, bride -
elect of this week. During the eve-
ning a mock wedding was portray-
ed when the following took part:
Minister, Mrs. W. C. Bennett;
bride, Annie Gordon; groom, Mrs,
D. Ennis, and Mrs. Holman tied
the knot. A shower of miscellan-
eous gifts • was given her, after
which a bountiful lunch was serv-
ed.
On the previous. Monday evening
Miss Shirley Bennett entertained
for her cousin at a dinner party
when there were 16 girls in at-
tendance. During the evening
games and contests were enjoyed
and later presented the bride-to-be
with an autograMhed tea cloth.
Mrs. Emmerson Mitchell also en-
tertained this week for Miss Ben-
nett at the hom% of • Mrs. Wilmer
Cuthill, when she was presented
with a kitchen shower.
The Walton group of the W.M.S.
of Duff's Church met Wednesday
evening at the home of Mrs. Ron-
ald Bennett with 26 women present
and Mrs. Frank Kirkby presiding.
Mrs. J. Cameron read a poem and
Mrs. Holman presented the topic.
After a short .business discussion
a geography match tested the wo-
men's knowledge of North America,
Lunch was served by the hostess,
assisted by Miss Annie Gordon and`'
Mrs. W. C. Hackwell.

Sister Dies in Stratford
Mrs. James Smith, 46, of 66
Stenling Street, London, died Fri-
day at the home of her eister, Mrs.
Peter De La Franier, 45 Grange
