Johnston,
In. ,the game against St. Marys,
the main scorers were: C, Martin
with 2 touchdowns and E. El'gie,, 1
touchdown. That wasn't too bad a
score considering it was our first
game, so come out this Friday at
3 o'clock at the Lions Park and
give us your support, and we 'will
do our best to win.
In the game against Forest, R.
Sills made a spectacular run
through the whole Forest team for
a touchdown. Seaforth's unlucky
play was when McKinesey's pass
was knocked sideways and caught
by a Forest player, who was in
the open and went for 'a touch-
down. The next game with Forest
will be on Monday, Oct. 31, at the
Lions. Park, so come out and sup-
port them, and I think on our home
ground that they can beat them.
Well, people say that if you have
a poor start you will have a good
finish, so web are going to have a
good finish by winning our next
games.
November 3 is coming. What is
it? Well, most of you know, or
should know, it is the second of
four concerts, sponsored by the
Department of Education. The first
concert, as the ones who attended
it will agree, was wonderful. The
second concert on Nov. 3 consists
of the following •talented artists:
Erica Zenter, who is a violinist
andcame from Regina, Sask.; Don-
ald George Brown, ay baritone, and
comes from Nelson, B.C.; John
Coveart, a pianist, who comes from
Toronto, and Nancy Whitehead, a
contralto, who comes from Toron-
to.
If you missed the first concert,
why not .come out and see the next
one? You won't be disappointed.
Tickets may still be obtained from
anyone in the High School. These
tickets cost only fifty cents. You
would spend that much to see a
movie, so why not come out and
see this concert. It will provide
much more entertainment than a
movie.
Now, in the -line of agriculture,
there are quite a few important
items. In a class in the Interna-
tional Plowing Match, Arthur Bol-
ton and John McGavin entered.
They both did exceptionally well
in their class. In the South Huron
match, on Friday, .Oct.. 21, Arthus
Bolton came first in his class. At
O.A.C., Guleph, on Oct. 21, Helen
Johnston and another girl from
Brussels came eighth in a class
of 33 in judging grain.
Also in the line of plowing
matches. the International Sea -
forth High School Plowing Match
will be held in the field north of
the school on .. ednesday, -Nov. 2.
There is one thing disappointing
to most of the pupils about this
match, that is only' .the students
entered in the events will be ex-
cused from school.
On Friday, Nov. 18, Grade 11
will be taken to Toronto take in
the Royal Winter Fair. They will
leave the school in the morning
and spend the day there, and re-
turn at night. Last year Grades
11 and 12 went, but this year, due
to the increase in enrolment, only
Grade 11 will go.
This. Friday night after the rug-
by game with St. Marys, we will
have our annual Hallowe'en and
Sadie Hawkin's dance. As usual,
it will be a costume dance, but un-
usual to other years, only costum-
ed students will be allowed admit-
tance. The cost is fifteen cents or
two for a quarter, but what is more
important, is •that the girls pay it.

tivities and we would like to see

Lions good Work depends on your
continued good -will and patronage.
Let's all be on hand, to support
this worthy cause.
Did you know that Clinton In-
termed'iate hockey club held their
organization meeting on Tuesday?
The local situation has been on
the quiet side, but we hope to be
able to bring you some informa-
tion in the near future.
Speaking of hockey, since it is
the maim sports topic these days,
it might be interesting to note that
it did not originate in Canada. It
is known from Dutch paintings of
the 16th and 17th centuries that a
game similar to hockey was play-
ed with sticks shaped much like a
golf club. The word "baguet,"
which means "shepherd's crook" is
an old French word, and "hockey,"
the girls pay it!) At this dance
the only outsiders allowed in will
be last year's graduates. Due to the
actions of some people at the last
dance, when anyone was .allowed
to come, this new law was put in
place.
Well, finally they got that 'old
faithful' the projector working. A
new one had been ordered for quite
a while, but hasn't come, so the
old one has been fixed. This year
it is being run by Bab McLennan.
Last week I said that the annual
Commencement was on Nov. 18,
but it has been postponed. Since
there is a nurses' dance in town on
that night, and also that Grade 11
is going to the Royal Winter Fair,
it is going to be set on to a later
date. This date *ill be announced
probably next week.
' Last week and next week is
sure making S.H:S. a busy place.
Last Friday was the game with St.
Marys Tuesday was the game with
Forest. Wednesday the whole
school 'attended the show to see
the movie, "Hamlet." On Friday
•there is a game with St. Marys.
Next Monday, Forest comes here
to play a game. Next Wednesday
is the all-important plowing match.
But don't forget, come out and sup-
port these two coming rugby
games. With your support,' we will
do our best to win.
Last year, as most of you will
remember, there was a different
reporter for the School News. i
imagine be did a better job than
I'm doing, but then that isn't the
point. In Fifth Form Jack Wallace
won a certificate for four hundred
dollars. Jack went to Western
University to take his course and
has now won another scholarship.
It is for one hundred dollars, from
Huron County. Jack wrote some
exams and passed them, winning
it. Well, good luck, Jack! We all
hope you a lot of success and hope
you succeed in passing your
course. V V yy
T T T
After the game against Forest
you would think that the players
would be worn out, but not a cer-
tain quarterback and snap. These
two and two certain cheer -leaders,
weren't the least bit tired. In fact,
they rushed to the back seats of
the bus. The snap must have been
injured in the game as he had some
blood on his neck. (Well, anyway
it was red). The' quarterback
didn't suffer any injuries in the
game, and I doubt if he or the snap
received any injuries in the corner
of the bus on the way home.
Question of the Week
Do that crippled Fourth Former
and that certain First Former think
anyone will believe them when he
says he was blowing smoke into
her mouth in St. Marys? I think
'it's just an excuse for them being
seen. 4
Song of the Week
"Snuggle Up a Little Closer."
You eould almost hear those two
cheer -leaders and. the ,snap .,and
•quarterback singing that td- each
other when they were earning
b nle on the bus froth 'f'ores't..

and 'so it might' be of
interest to local hunters to know
that the Department of Lands and
Forests has stipulated the period
-from November 21 to 26 as an
open, season on deer in Bruce
County this year.
The open season will be in
Albetnarle, Amabel, Eastnor, Lind-
say and St. Edmunds Townships
on the Bruce Peninsula, and in
Greenock Township in the south-
ern section of the county. Rifles
may be used in these areas for
hunting deer during the open sea-
son.
"Let us finish the job!" is the
slogan of the Community Centre
drive which commenced last Mon-
day. And, why not? Why start
something and then not finish it
at least if started it should
be completed in every detail . . .
and so the committee in charge
feel that now is the time to make
-r=eady to complete this project that
will be worthy of Seaforth and dis-
trict in every aspect.
The Centre will be the hub of
our community wheel, so to speak,
and through it will bring the peo-
ple of the community together, in
a better understanding and friend-
ship while at play. Whisperings
would like to see every wage-
earner assist in this project by
donating towards this campaign to
hid the committee in charge, to
have the job fully completed in
every detail.
We have no doubt that your new
Memorial Hall and Community
Centre will well be appreciated by
all in future years to come .
so be sports. "Let us finish the
•job" and always keep in mind at
the same time that:
