—The September meeting of the
Ladies' Guild of St. Thomas'
Church was held on Tuesday of
this week at the home of Mrs. H.
Colbert. In - the absence of the
president, the vice-president, Mrs.
Colbert, opened the meeting with
•prayers for the parish and parish
workers. The secretary read the
minutes of the June meeting, which
were approved. The treasurer's re-
port showed a substantial balance.
The members discussed plans for
fall activities; ..catering for the
men's Deanery meeting on October
19, and were urged to continue pre-
parations for the annual bazaar in
November. After the offertory was
received and dedicated, a silence
was observed in honor of a valued
member, the late Mrs. Wra. Archi-
bald. The meeting closed with
prayer, after which a contest was
held and the hostess served re-
freshments. The rector, Rev. T.
Dale Jones, paid a friendly call to
the first fall meeting. -

Northside W.M.S. Starts Study
Book.—The W.M.S. of Northside
United Church held their Septem-
ber meeting Thursday with twentY
members present. The president
was in the chair and opened the
meeting with the hymn, "Thy
Kingdom Come, 0 Lord" and pray-
er. Miss Annie Lawrence led in re-
sponsive reading of Psalm 145 and
gave the thanksgiving •prayers.
The theme hymn of the Dominion
Board, "Heralds of Christ Who
Bear the King's Commands," was
sung. Delegates were appointed to
the sectional meeting at Brucefield
to be held in the near future. Tern-
perance reading, "A Great Remov-
er," was given by Mrs. C. C. Keine.
Reports and roll call 'by the secre-
tary and treasurer, Mrs. A. L. Por-
teous and Miss Annie Ferguson.
were received. The study 'book,
"Growing With the Years," was in-
troduced by Miss A. Lawrence,
Mrs, D Aikenhead. Mrs. F. Storey,
Mrs, Finnegan and Mrs. R. Law-
son. The meeting closed with the
benediction.

Northside W. A. Group Meets.—
Group 3 of the Wpman's Associa-
tion of Northside United' Church
held their September meeting on
Tuesday at the home of Mrs. B.
F. Christie. Miss.Edith Hoag, the
president, opened the meeting by
reading a poem, "Small Deeds,"
followed by .a prayer Hymn 945
was sung after which Mrs. N.
Knight led in prayer followed by
the Lord's Prayer in unison. The
Scripture lesson was taken from
the third chapter of John and was
read by Mrs. Walden. A piano
solo by Gwendolyn Christie was
much enjoyed. Roll call was an-
swered by twenty members by
naming a book of the Old Testa-
ment. There were also three visi-
tors present. A reading, "The Ev-
erlasting Beauty," was given by
Miss Ida Cooper. Mrs. Morrison,
president of the General Society,
was present and outlined the work
for the fall term. Miss Hoag then
read a poem, "I Know God's Near."
Hymn 334 was sung and the presi-
dent closed the meeting with pray-
er, Mrs. Snell then conducted a
very interesting musical conteet,
after which a delicious lunch was
served.

at the home of Mrs, R. Aikens
Wednesday afternoon with the
president, Mrs. A. Whetham, in
charge. A quilt was quilted and
the hostess served a lunch, assist-
ed by her helpers.

week in Grand Bend, the guest of
her daughter, Mrs. K. Salton, Mit-

Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Kleinfeldt
arrived home on Wednesday from
Toronto. They also called on her
uncle, Mr. Russell Aikens, Grims-
by.

Rev. G. M. Young and Mrs.
Youngs accompanied by Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas -Laing, were in For-
est where they attended the fafe-
well service of Rev. W. McOdrum
at the Presbyterian Church. At the
close of the service' a presentation
of a substantial cheque was given
to Rev. W. McOdrum and a purse
to Mrs. McOdrum.
Mrs. Robert Chittick, of St.
Marys, spent the week -end with
her mother, Mrs. Robertson.
Miss Betty McKellar is spending
a week at Buffalo with Mr. and
Mrs, Dan McKellar and family.
Mrs. Wilson, of Toronto, is vis-
iting with Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Scott.
A large number from this com-
munity attended the service on
Sunday evening in • Knox Presby-
terian Church, Mitchell, to hear
Rev. John Elder, missionary from
British Guiana, who was at one
time pastor of the church here.
