brother of the bride, was best man,
and Ernie Merkley„ of Wingham,
escorted the guests from the house
to the garden. Little Sharon Merk-
ley, sister of the bride, made a
charming • !tower girl in pale green
organdy, and carried a nosegay of
pink roses. 'Phe groom's gift to
the bride was a silver tea service;
to the .bridesmaid, a compact,
to the flower girl, a docket, and to
the best man, a lighter. A re-
ception was held at the home fol-

bride's mother received in a steel
grey ensemble with navy 'blue
accessories and a corsage of red
roses. The room's mother .chose
a pink printed mesh dress with
grey accessories with red and
white carnations. Those serving
lunch were Doreen Long and Mad-
eline. Ryan, of Brussels, and Bar-
bara Trumbull, of Wingham. Their
gifts were cups and saucers. Later
Mr. and Mrs. Bennett left on a trip
to Northern Ontario and on their
return will reside in Walton.
Guests were present from London,
Seaforth, Brussels, Wingham, Bel -
more and Wroxeter.

raul's Anglican Church, Hentsall,
and Trivia -Memorial, Exeter,
spoke, basing his thoughts from
the text: "Other men 'labored and
ye
are entered into their labors."
Mr. Langford said it is right and
fitting that we should commemor-
ate those who have gone before
with marble, brass or bronze, but
have we no other monument to
erect to their memory, surely they
would wish us to erect the monu-
ment of a nobler, purer, more bro-
therly, more God-fearing nation.
Before God nothing less than this

lowing the service an informal so-
cial gathering was held in the
church schoolroom to permit the

ally.
Hensall Masonic Lodge A.F. &
A.a,L and brethren from Exeter,
Zurich and Kippen attended divine
„wors'hip in Carmel Presbyterian
Church Sunday evening .and were
addressed by Rev. P. A. Ferguson,
who delivered a very inspiring
and timely message, basing his
thoughts from Isaiah 66:1: "The
Heaven is ray throne, and the
earth my footstool, where is the
house that ye 'build unto Me." The
Male choir, under direction of J.
Nicol, organist and choir director,
led the service of prise. For their
anthem they sang, "Onward, Sol-
iiprs of the Cross," soloist being
Dave Sangster. A solo, "Lead Us,
O Father," was sung by Don Bell.
At the conclusion of the service
the organist by special request
played the Hallelujah chorus.
Dr. J. A. McLean, of Hens,all, has
received tri appointment ,at the
Hospital for Sick Children, Tor-
onto, and intends leaving on- the
25th of June and will commence
his new duties the lst of July. Dr.
Mc Lean and his wife, Dr. Margaret
McLean, came to Hensall over two
years ago from Toronto. Dr. Mc-
Lean served overseas as Captain
vt ith the R.C.A.M.C. Following a
vacation Dr. Margaret McLean will
return to Hensall on the 10th of
July and will remain most of the
summer.
The annual picnic of the Hen-
sall United Church choirs, junior
and adult, is scheduled to take
place at the Lions Park, Seaforth,
on ;Wednesday afternoon, July -6.
Members, guests and children are
cordially invited to attend. Those
i having cars and those desiring
i -transportation are reminded to
meet at the church around 1:30.

A lovely summer wedding was
solemnized at the United Church
Manse, Hensall, when Cora Mae,
daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Pletcher, Ne' Salem, N.S., became
the bride of Gerald Albert Warm,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wurm,
Newell. Rev. R. A. Brook per-
formed the ceremony. The bride
was charming in a blue gabardine
suit with white accessories, -Hex
corsage was of red roses. Miss
Eleanor Keys attended the bride,.
wearing a wine suit with white
accessories. Her corsage was white
roses. Following a reception held
at the groam's sister, the couple"
left for a wedding trip, and on
their return will reside in London.
Announcement
Mr. and Mrs. Norman H. Jones,
of Hensall, announce the engage-
ment of their eldest daughter,
Florence Kathleen, to Frederick
George Ireland, son of Frederick
W. Ireland and the late Mrs. Ire-
land of Toronto, the marriage to
take place Friday, July 1, 1949, in
Toronto.
The regular meeting of Hensall
Council was held Tuesday in the
council chamber with all members
being present except Councillor W.
Parke, who was ill. Minutes of the..
previous meeting- were read and
adopted. Councillor Tudor asked
permission for the Legion for the
use of the bowling green property
and the snow fence for their frolic
on July 13. Permission was grant-
ed. F. Harburn reported the work
to be done on the streets. The
clerk read a lengthy report of the
fire underwriters regarding fire
protection and waterworks. Fire
Chief E. Fink and Motor Mechanic
W. C. Passmore appeared as dele-
fates from the fire brigade, asking
about fire equipment far the same,
stating the present equipment was
obsolete.
