speaker, presented a very forceful mes-
sage basing Ms thoughts• from the
theme, "The Spirit of the Lord is
Upon Me." Owing to the absence
of Mr. Benson Stonemll'n, piaaiist,
Miss Gladys Luker of Hensall act-
ed as substitute. Lovely floral bou-
quests were in evidence. The event
was largely attended. \The offer-
ing will be used to further the
young people's work.
Death of Mrs. T. Harris
Mrs. T. Harris, well known and
highly respected resident of Hen-
sall and well known in the Chisel -
burst district, died Monday night
in St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
in her 75th year, following a seven
weeks' illness with a heart condi-
tion. MTS. Harris, who was• taken
to the hospital on Tuesday of last
week, was the former Mary Jane
Squires. Born in Kinburn, she re-
sided in Chiselhurst for twenty-
seven years, taking up residence
ill Hensall four years ago. Surviv-
ing are one son, Percy, of Chisel-
hurst; two daughters, Mrs. Carl
(Pearl) Passmore, Hensall, and
Mrs. Milton (Bernice) Lavery, of
Hensall, and seven grandchildren.
A son, Cecil Harris, died last Aug-
ust. She is the first of a family
of nine to pass away. Three bro-
thers and five sisters also sur-
vive: James Squires, Exeter; Geo„
Woodham; Roland, London; Mrs.
Jahn Oke, Mrs. Rhoda Westlake,
Exeter: Mrs. Joseph Dayman, Kip -
pen; Mrs. Orville Cann, Thames
Road, and Mrs. John Herdman, Ex-
eter. The body rested at Bon-
thron's funeral home, Hensall, un-
til Wednesday, where a brief fun-
eral service was held, followed by
a public service at the United
Church, conducted by Rev. R, A.
Brook. Burial was in Exeter ceme-
tery.
Kipper] East W.I. held their May
meeting at the home of Mrs. G.
MacLean of Friday evening, May
20, at 8.30. The roll call was an-
swered with a riddle or a joke.
Mrs. W. H. MacLean reviewed
current events; readings were con-
tributed by Miss GIadys Chapman;
and a poem was read by Mrs. Fred
Slavin. Mies Marilyn Eyre favor-
ed with solos. Mrs. T. Kay pre-
sented an interesting travelouge
of the trip which she and Mr. Kay
took by plane to the West. Mrs.
G. MacLean gave a demonstration
on ,picture grouping and framing.
Letters of thanke were read. from
Ralph MacDonald, of Ajax, war
veteran, far a lovely sweater sent
to him for Easter, and a thank -you
letter was read. from the Canadian
Society for the Blind for donation
of $25. Delegates to the district
annual, to be held in Crediton on
June 3, are Mrs. James. McNaugh-
ton; .Mrs. T. Kay, Mrs. W. Alexan-
der and Miss Margaret McKay.
The annual picnic will be held art
the Lions Park, Seaforth, early in
July. During the evening Mrs. W.
Cole, a very active member of this
organization and who recently
tool[ up residence in Hensail, was
presented with a lovely table lamp.
The accompanying address was
read by Mrs, W. Kyle and the pres-
entation made by Miss Grace Tre-
weer, Luncheon was served in
charge of Mrs. Wm. Kyle, con-
vener,

The Kippen Feet .Institute held
their regular meeting at the home
of, Mrs. Carrie McLean on Friday,
May 20. The meeting opened with
the Institute Ode, followed by the
Lord's Prayer. The Creed was' re-
peated ants. Gladys Chapman gave
a delightful reading. Roll call was
answered with a joke or riddle,
and the minutes were rear1' by the
secretary. Plans were made to at-
tend the district annual in Credi-
ton on June 3. Mrs. W. McLean,
Miss M. MacKay, Miss Grace Tre-
meer and Mrs. Jas. McNaughton
were appointed delegates. Current
evente were given by Mrs. W. E.
McLean. The music was supplied
by Marilyn Eyre. A humorous poem
was given 'Dy Mrs. Fred Slavin,
and Mrs. T. Kay gave an interest-
ing travelogue on her visit to the
Western Provinces which she made
by air. Mrs. Carrie McLean gave
a demonstration on hanging pic-
tures and showing how to group
them to show to best advantage.
The" secretary read cards of thanks
from sick members, and Mrs. R.
M. Peck personally thanked the
members for their kindness in her
illness. A presentation was made
to Mrs. Wm. Cole of a table lamp
by the institute members for her
very capable assistance during the
war years and ever since the
founding of the institute, Mrs, Wm.
Kyle made a few feeling remarks
and Miss Grace Tremeer present-
ed the lamp. Mrs. Cole thanked
everyone and hoped to be able to
help again in the future. Mrs: Alex
McGregor moved, a vote of thanks
to the hostess.

At the annual big shoot held in
Kippen Tuesday, sponsored by the
Kippen Gun Club, William Kyle,
of Kippen,, captured, the Venter
trophy. After a 50 -bird shoot -off
with John Anderson and Chester
Lee, tied with 44 out of 50, Mr.
Kyle won in the shoat -off.

Mr, Ferris Ford returned to his
home in Oregon Sunday last after
spending a few days visiting with
his 'aunt, Mrs. J. Bolton. During
Tris visit here a gathering was held
in his honor at the home of Mr.
Billy McKinnon, son of Mr. and
Mrs, Donald McKinnon, was oper-
ated on for appendicitis on Tues-
day in. St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don, and is doing well.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. A. Paterson
attended the funeral of the late
Jacob Brenkolt at Kitchener on
Monday.
Group 5 of the Ladies' Aid of
Carmel Presbyterian Church realiz-
ed $50 from their booth at the
fair Wednesday.
