R. (DICK) DAVIES
The retirement of W. J. Welch, Stratford and district repres-
entative for Carling's, was announced this week by T. E. Arkell,
Sales Manager, The Carling Breweries Ltd. Mr. Welch retires on
the Company's pension plan after 18 years of service. ',Succeeding
Mr. Welch in this district will be R. (Dick) Davies, who was with
the Canadian Army overseas for six years prior to joining the
Carling sales staff. Mr. Davies is a native of Pt. Colborne.

Mra Catherine Jarrott, who has
been visiting her son, Dr. Gilbert
0. Jarrott, of Stratford, returned to
her home on Saturday.
Word was received in Kippen on
Monday to the effect that Mr. and
Mrs. Thos. Butt arrived in Glen-
dale, Arizona, on Thursday even-
ing, Dec. 23, and that they covered,
over 2,500 miles in about six days.
When they arrived they found the
temperature hovering around' 70.
Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Schultz
and family spent Christmas Day
with friends in Crediton.

spent Saturday and Sunday with

• Frederick W. Gladman
Funeral services were 'held on
Wednesday at 2.15 p.m. from the
residence, Albert St., Exeter, for
Frederick W. Gladman, 78, one of
the oldest practicing lawyers in
Huron County,' who died' in Victor-
ia Hospital, London, Monday night.
A former deputy city magistrate in
Loudon, he had practiced law for
36 years, 51 years in Exeter A
native of Lindsay, he was' a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Gladman. He was raised in Peter -
hero, studying law at Osgood'e
Hall, where he was graduated in
18'92. He married' the former Mar-
garet Fowler, who died in 1941.
Surviving are three sons: Melville,
Hamilton; Donald, Wiir:nipeg, and
Charles, ,Chatham, and a daugh-
ter,. Mrs. Warren Sanders, Exeter.
Rev. H. J. Snell, of Exeter, con-
ducted the funeral service, assist-
ed by Iev. Dr. J. Y. MacKinnon,
of First St. Andrew's United
Church, London. Interment was in
Exeter cemetery.
