North edging the South 8-7 in a real

were week -end guests with them.

George and Gloria, of Windsor, spent
a few days last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Orr and family on their way to
Tobermory.
Mr. Cecil Harris has accepted a
position as bookkeeper at Kerslake's
Produce.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hedden and
Roy, Shirley and Linda, of St. Cath-
arines, are visiting this week with
Mr. Fred Kennings and family.
Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Orr, Don and
Jim spent the week -end at Chesley,
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Orr. -
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Manns and
Donald, of Toronto, are spending two
weeks' vacationing with the former's
mother, Mrs. F. Manns.
Mr. Herb. Hedden and Miss 'Phyllis
Case, St. Catharines, are visiting this
week with Mrs. C. M. Redden and
Mr. and Mrs. Whiney Carter, Clin-
ton.
Miss Doris Buchanan, on the staff
of the Bank of Commerce, Parkhill,
spent the week -end holiday with her
mother, Mrs. Mary Buchanan, and
brother, Lloyd.

Rev. Mr. Down, of Exeter, isoc-
cupying the pulpit of Chiselhurst and
Hensall United Churches (morning
services) during the month of August,
while the minister, Rev. R. A. Brook,
is on vacation. Rev. and Mrs. Brook
are holidaying with members of their
fathily in Galt, Toronto and other
centres.
Mr. and Mrs. Radford Donaldson
have returned' to London after a two
weeks' visit with the latter's smother,
Mrs. A. Saundercock.
Mr. Harold Scruton and family, of
Port Dover, were week -end visitors
here. They were accompanied home
by Miss Judith Shaddick, who intends
spending a vacation there.
Mr. and Mrs. 'F. Harburn and chil-
dren, also Miss Edna Walsh and Aud-
rey, spent the week -end near Blyth.
Gary Quance, seven-year-old son of
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Quance, Staffs,
while playing with some youngsters
around cement tiles, had the misfor-
tune to have one of the tiles roll on
him, fracturing his arm. The fracture
was set by Dr. P. L. Brady and Dr.
E. A. McMaster, Seaforth.
Complimenting Mrs. Nellie Mc7wan,
a bride of this week, Mrs. A. D. Mc -
Ewan was hostess at her home for a
presentation In her honor Thursday
evening last, when members of the
ladies' 'five hundred. club and neigh-
bors numbering twenty-five, gathered
and presented her with a lovely wall
mirror and table cloth, Mrs. A. Clark
doing the honors. 'Progressive euchre
was featured and the winners were
Mrs. Walker Carlilse; consolation,
Mrs, A. Clark. A special prize was
won by Mrs. E. R. Shaddick. One of
the highlights of the affair was the
presentation of a shock wedding, the
roles being portrayed by the follow-
ing: Bride, Mrs. Alda Simmons;
groom, Mrs. Milton Russell; minister,
Mrs. George Hess. A delicious lunch-
eon was served and the event was
much enjoyed.

The July meeting of the Kippen ,
East Women's Institute was held at
the home of Mrs. Arthur Varlet' on
Wednesday with an attendance of
about thirty. Mrs. Wm. Kyle presid-
ed. The meeting opened with the In-
stitute Ode, followed by the Lord's
Prayer in unison. A sing -song was en-
joyed. The roll call was answered by
"Where I was baptized and by whom."
The business was brought forward for
discussion and it was decided to hold
a community picnic in Jo.wett's Grove,
Bayfield, on Tuesday, August 17, at 2
p.m. There will be sports for all and
a ball game, sports conveners, Mr.
and Mrs. C. Eyre, Mr. and Mrs. R.
Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Broad -
foot; ball captains, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
'Sinclair, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Fin-
layson; lunch committee, Mrs. Eldon
Jarrott, Mrs. E. Whitehouse, Mrs.
Ross Lgye, Mrs. Bert Peck; ice cream,

gave an outline of Churchill's life and
of his rise to be Britain's Prime Min-
ister, and how he brought the British
