KIPPEN •
A well-attendedand appreciative
congregation heard a remarkable ad-
dress in St, Andrew's United Church,
Kippen, on Sunday last, delivered by
the Rev. A. Hinton, the pastor. In
his introductory remarks, he explain-
ed. that he was sorry that he had to
speali so plainly, but assured his con-
gregation that his action was prompt-
ed by the Conference of the United
Church on So vital a subject.
Mr. Hinton based: his remarks on a
situation that is facifig, not only the
United Cliurch, but all Protestant de-
nominations all over Canada., The.
United Church, the second largest re-
ligious denomination in Canada, is
growing both financially and numer-
ically, but the seriousness of the sit-
uation lies in the fact that not enough
young men and women are entering
into the, ministry 4o offset the vast
number who fall by the wayside
through, illness or superannuation.
During the cburse of his address Mr.
Hinton commented on the fact that
the email congregation of Elillsgreen,
could boast of having recruited two
candidates for the mlnistfy, in the
persons of Mr. Keith Love, now of
Burlington, and Mr, Herbert Work -
„man, of Seaforth, Kippenneele said,
Fuld graduated three young men to
the medical profession, but he regret-
ted to say that not one had graduated
for the uninietry. The reason so few
answer the call to the ministry is pos-
sibly due to the lack of influence in.
the home that might tend to stimu-
late a desire to enter into this higk
a.nd honorable calling, rather than
other professions Where It would e ap-
pear that kig.h, salaries are the draw-
ing ea.rd. Over five hundred of note
