Women's Institute Will Meet,—The
Seaforth Women's Institute will meet
on Thursday evening, June 17, at the
home of Mrs. Raymond Nott, at 8.30
p.m. The roll call will be "One way
to make a new citizen feel welcome
in our community." The motto is,
"May we. by some well -doing, make
this a better world for others." This
is Citizenship meeting with Mrs. E1 -
don Kerr and Mrs. Jack Kerr as con-
veners. The lunch committee is Mrs.
Paul Doig, Mrs. James Brown, Mrs.
Russell Miller arad Mrs. Ken Adams.
The men are cordially invited to at-

Northside W. A. Group Two Meets.
—Group 2 of the W.A. of Northside
United Church held their monthly
meeting at the homt,"ef Mrs. 11. R.
Savau•ge last week with Mrs. P. B.
Moffat presiding. The meeting open-
ed with the hymn, "My Faith Looks
Up To Thee," and .Mrs. R. Lawson led
in prayer. Miss Laura Mole read the
minutes and several thank -you notes
were read. Mrs. A. L. Porteous gave
a humorous reading, "How To Pull an
Organization Down." Following the
business. crokinole was ‘played, win-
ners being Mrs. Duncan Aikenhead
and Mrs. Lorne Webster. A delicious
lunch was served by the hostesses
and a social .hour spent.
Death of Mrs. E. Roberts.—Eliza-
beth Cameron, wife of the late Ever-
ett Roberts. passed away in Conneaut.
Ohio, on Saturday, June 5. in her 90th
year. Born on the Mill Road, Tuck-
ersmith, December 25, 1858, daughter
of the late John Cameron and Ann
Young, her early life was spent here
until her marriage. to Mr. Roberts.
She went to Flushing, Michigan, later
going to Ohio. Short funeral services
were held at Ashtabula on Sunday,
the body was taken to Fenton for
burial in Flushing, Mich„ Monday at
3 p.m. She is survived by one bro-
ther, Peter Cameron, Tuckersmith,
and a number of neces and nephews
Death of William Mason,—The death.
occurred on Tuesday at his home in
Seaforth, after an illness of six
months, of William Mason. A native
of Hullett Township, he had farmed
in Hullett and in Morris Township
before retiring to Seaforth four years
ago. Mr. Mason was married in 1906
to Margaret Brigham, who survives.
He was a member of First Presby-
terian Church. Surviving in addition
to his wife are three daughters, Mrs.
Clinton, and six grandchildren. One
daughter, Ella, predeceased him at
fourteen years of age. The funeral
will be held from the residence on
Friday at 2 p.m., with interment in
Burne' cemetery, Hullett. The pall-
bearers will be J. J. Hugill, S. Me -
Brien, Ed. Pryce, Walter Scott, Miller
Adams and Ed. Dorrance.
Death of Henry James Fortune,—
The death occurred) in Tuckersmith
on. Sunday of Henry James Fortune,
in his 69th year. A son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Luke Fortune, he was
born in Tuckersmith where he lived
all his life. Surviving are two bro-
thers, Albert, Seaforth, and Louis,
Detroit, and a sister, Mrs. M. Downey,
Seafortb. A brother, Leo D, Fortune,
predeceased him last November, Two
sisters, Emily and Jennie, predeaces=
ed him a number of years ago. He
was unmarried ,.r,Mr. Fortune was a
member of St, James' Catholic Church
and) a member of the Holy Name So-
ciety. Funeral services were held
Wednesday morning with Rev. Father
T. P. Hussey officiatiing, and burial
was in St. James' cemetery, The FAB -
heaters were John; Devereaux, William

While he had been in poor health for
eight yearin it was only during recent
months that he was unable to spend
seine time at his besdne , Born, in
Treble, Italy, July 13, 1885, lie was
a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tony
Phillips, and) cause to New York City
in 1905. In 1906 he married tate for-
mer Mary Renaa, and in 1916 he and
his family moved to Seaforth, where
he conducted a large wholesale and
retail business throughout the dis-
trict. He was a member of St. James'
R.C. Church and of the Holy Name
Society. He was a member of the
Marconi Club, London. Surviving are
hie wife, three sons, Tony, Augelo and
Fraark, all of Seaforth; and one daugh-
ter, Mrs, Dominic Scalisi, Woodstock.
Requiem High Mass will be sung in
St. James' Church at 9.30 a.m. Fri-
day. Rev. T. P. Hussey Will officiate.
The pallbearers will be Reg. Kers-
lake, John Bach, J. M. McMillan, Jas.
Sylvester, J. J. Cleary and Mr. An-
tonio. Interment will be in St. James'
cemetery.

of John Edward Henderson, in his
70th year. Mr. Henderson had suf-
fered a stroke on Tuesday from which
he never rallied, Ar quiet unassum-
ing Mau he had many friends in Sea -
forth and district who will -mourn his
passing. Born in McKillop he was
married on June 11, 1907, to Mary V.
Hawthorne, of Hullett, who survives
him. He is also survived by his aged
mother, who lives with her daughter,
Mrs. Alex Wright, Mill Road, one
brother, James Henderson, and three
sisters, Mrs. McClure, Colborne Town-
ship; Mrs. Archie Lamont, McKillop,
and Mrs. Alex Wright, Tuckersmith.
Mr, Henderson in his early life was a
farmer and after moving to Seaforth
carried on a teaming business. Dur-
ing the First War he was employed
at The Robt. Bell Engine & Thresher
Co. Ltd. Mr. Henderson was a faith-
ful attendant of First Presbyterian
Church, of which he was a valued
member, and a Liberal in politics.
The funerat took place from his late
residence, John Street, on Saturday
with Rev. G. A. Milne, of Brussels,
officiating. The pallbearers were
Ernest Geddes, Lew Tebbutt, Ross
Gordon, James McC'lure,Earl Snell
and Helmer Snell, Interment was in
Maitlandbank cemetery.
St. Thomas' W. A. and Guild Meet.
—The June meeting of St. Thomas'
Branch 'of the W.A. was held jointly
with the Guild at the home of Miss
Holmes on Tuesday, Mrs. Charles
Holmes, honorary president, ,being
the guest of honor. Twenty-two mem-
bers answered the roll call. Mrs. Geo.
McGavin, president of the Guild, op-
ened the meeting with a prayer tor
the parish and Lord's Prayer in uni-
son. The Scripture reading was for
the third Sunday after Trinity. The
various reports were read and ac-
cepted. The congregational "get-to-
gether" on the evening of Jure 15, in
commemoration of the 93rd annivers-
ary of the Work begun in this distr act
by the Rev. Wm. Cresswell, was dis-
cussed, the women of the congrega-
tion to provide refreshments. 'Mrs. C.
F, L. Gilbert, president of the W.A.,
took over for a brief meeting. The
Dorcas secretary asked that the two•
quilts for the Mohawk Institute be
quilted on the last Tuesday in June.
Mr. Gilbert spoke briefly,. then pro-
ceeded with the highlight of the meet-
ing, the presentation of a Diocesan
life membership to Mrs. Charles
Holmes. Mr. Gilbert read the ser-
vice of admission; Mrs. R. G. Parke
pinned on the badge, and Miss Holmes
presented the certificate. The meet-
ing closed with the members' prayer
in unison and the benediction. A hap-
py social hour was then spent.

thank -you letter from the Jesuit: Eur-
opean Relief Appeal in Toronto, for
the donation sent to help send over-
seas the cases of canned goods which
had been previously collected. Sev-
eral calls were reported by the visit-
ing committee. Mrs. T. D. Sills and
Miss Marguerite Dunn were appoint-
ed 'the visiting committee for June.
Plans were made for a lawn tea to
be held at the home of Mrs. F. S.
Sills on Thursday, June 24. Mies Ag-
nes Gaffney gave a well-prepared and
interesting paper on "The Sacred
Heart." The meeting closed with reci-
tation of the Rosary.
