Mission Band Meets.• — The Alert Mission Band opened its May meeting by singing "Jesus Bids Us Shine." Mrs. W. Bradshaw said a prayer; Lor- raine Ileuderson gave the Scripture, which was followed by the 23rd ,Psalm. "God Sees the Little Spar- row Fall" was sung and the collec- tion amounting' to 78e, was talten. The roll call and minutes were read and business discussed by Mrs, Brad- shaw. The meeting closed by repeat- ing the Mission Band benediction. Death of Mrs. J. J. Hurley.—There passed away in London on Wednes- day, May 5, Katherine Barry, widow of the late J. J. Hurley, in her 85th year. Mrs. •H`irley was well known and highly respected by many friends in Seaforth, who will regret to learn of her passing. Mrs. Hurley went to London about 11 years ago, and was the last member of her family. The funeral was held from St.. James' Church on Friday morning with Rev. T. P. Hussey officiating. Interment was in St. James' cemetery. St._,Thernas' Church Guild Meets,— The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies' -Guild of St. Thomas' Church was held in the Parish Hall on Tues- day. Thirteen members answered the roll call and the president, Mrs. G. McGavin, opened the meeting with Scripture reading for the Sunday af- ter Ascension Day, followed by pray- ers for the parish, for hospitals,'and the Lord's Prayer in unison.- In the absence of the ecretary, Miss Holmes read the minutes' of the previous meeting. . All reports from commit- tees were dealt,with and the offertor#' received and dedicated. A congrega- tional social evening was planned in connection with .anniversary celebra- tion in June, including inviting Dub- lin to join in the occasion. A Sunday .School and con regational picnic will be held on June 26 at, the Lions Park. The meeting cl'£yy ed with thy,benedic- tion. Gilbert, B.A. Death of James Edgar.—The death took place of James Edgar on Satur- day at the home of William Smith in Seaforth. Mr. Edgar was born in Ire- land and served with the Imperial Army during the Boer War, and later came to Canada where he enlisted and was with the Cana9lian Army in the First World War. On his return to Canada he worked at Westminster Hospital, London, until his health failed and he and his wife, who was the former Mi,ss Elizabeth • Mossop, came to Seaforth to,.reside, He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. 'Robert Edgar; one brother, William Edgar, Seaforth; three sisters, Mrs. Alex Muir and Mrs. James Flanagan, Seaforth, and ,'Mrs. Edwards, Sault Ste. Marie; one son, Robert, and a daughter, Mrs. S. R.. Wilkie, of Lon- don, and one grandson. The funeral, under -auspices Branch 2 of the'Cana- ldan Legion, of which he was a mem- ber, took place•from the' Harrison & Skinner fineral home, London, on Tuesday at `2 p.m., with interment in Woodland cemetery. Her coronet headdress matched her gown, and she carried white Janna Hill roses. Miss Eileen 0,''Ne f Toronto, was her sister's brides aid, wearileg a gown similar to the bride's in .mist blue, and She carried yellow roses. The groom was attended by„ his bro- ther, Stuart Wigg, of Seaforth, and the ushers were Sterling Habkirk, of Seaforth, and Hugh Riddell and Doug- las Riddell, of Barrie. At a recep£ion at the Queen's Hotea following the ceremony, Mrs. O'Neil received the guests, wearing a frock of grey crepe, grey hat and corsage of rose sweet peas. Mrs. Wigg, smother of the groom, assisted in a frock of brown printed. crepe, blue . Mohair hat and her corsage was sweet peas in pastel shades. Barrie, Death 0 Robert 4, MeMillalleaThe passing of Robed J, McMillan remov- ed from Seaforth one of the Older citizens of this district. Mr. MolV1[il- lan had been in failing health for the past few years, but had really only been bedfast during the past week, death taking place at 5.30 o'clock Sat- urday morning, May 8. Mr. McMillan was the last surviving member of the old outstanding family of eight chil- dren, barn to John McMillan and Janet McMichael, whose marriage took place 1849, almost one hundred years ago. Robert was born on his parents' farm, Holm Farm, Hullett Township, in 1858, and spent his early years there, being educated in the Kinburn public school, and growing up with, only two others of his fam- °iiy, Grace (Mrs, Eli Bateman) and Thomas, who predeceased him, in 1924 and 1932, respectively. Other members of the McMillan family died at an early age, all before 1885, and all before the age of thirty years. Mr. McMillan had travelled widely, having been an, importer and expor er of cattle and horses to the Old 'Country, during his farming career. He was intensely in- terested in politics and their relation to the farmer, and until very recently was one of the pest posted men politically. He was a Director of the leF.O, and a candidate in two Fed- eral elections. Mr. McMillan was never married and is survived by one niece, Mrs. W. L. Whyte, Holm Farm, Hullett, daughter of the late Thomas McMillan, M.P., ,and nephews: John H. Scott, Seaforth; John H. Bateman, Baton Rouge, and James L. Bateman, Los Angeles. The funeral service on Monday at 2 p.m. took place from his late residence, Seaforth, and was con- ducted by Rev. 11. V. Workman, North- side United Church, Seaforth, inter- ment being in Mai•tiandbank cemetery. The pallbearers were Mac Scott, Wil- frid Scott, Walter Scott, Wm.
