The Clerk was instructed to get in touch with Frank Kirkby,. of Walton, re the machine work on the tile por- tions of the Cann -Mitchell and Wurm Municipal Drains. Council appointed Councillors Tuckey and Pineombe to meet with the committees on the Heywood, Morley, Westeott and Coates Drain, on motion of Councillors Brock and Simpson. Council instructed that advertising be placed in the local newspapers for applications for the position of as- sessing officer for the township, ap- plications. to be considered at the March meeting, ou motion of Coun- cillors Pincombe and Brock. 13y -law No. 4, 1948, providing for the increase in the road superintend - dent's, wages , was confirmed, to be for- warded and submitted for approval by the Department of Highways. Benson W. Williams tendered his resignation as township livestock val- uator. Resignation_ was accepted wait .regret by the council. On motion of Councillors Simpson and! Tuckey, Clayton 'Smith was appointed liven stock valuator for the year 1948. On motion of Councillors Tuckey and Simpson, the Clerk was authoriz- ed to sign on behalf of the Township the Road Superintendent's applica- tion for the balance of the 1947 *pro- vincial subsidy on road expenditures; total expenditure applied for $19,218. total expenditure applied for $19,- .218.02. On motion . of Councillors Brock and Pincombe the resolution of coon - as of January 12, 1948, setting salaries and rates of pay. for town- ship employees for the year was amended to provide that day laborers and snowplow helpers be paid at the rate of 60, cents per hour, operators of,the maintainer 70 cents per hour, operators of the crawler tractor =at snow clearing with helper 70 cents per hour, operators of the crawler tractor at snow clearing without help- er. $1.00 per hour. On motion . of Councillors Simpson and Brock, the road superintendent Wail authorized to make the follow- ing charges for snow clearing work done by township equipment: For the use of the crawler tractor and plow to the County of 'Huron, $8.00 per hour; for the nse of the crawler tractor and plow for clearing lanes sad driveways, $8.00 per hour; for the maintainer and plow for snow clearing to the Cour t:. $5.00 per hour. On the advice of. Engineer. Patter- son, council directed that the road superintendent should place an order for the steel required for the bridge' on the Exeter side road immediately. W: Morgan an honorarium of $30 in recognition of his services as the township representative to the Exeter Distrint High School Board during Gut year x947.
