Goforth Mission Band Meas. --The Goforth Mission Band of First Pres- byterian Church, met on Wednesday afternoon in the Sunday School room. The meeting opened by singing Mis- sion Band chorus, ''We've a Story To Tell To the Nations' The minutes were read and ,approved and thirty answered the roll call. The -twenty- third Psalm was read by Evelyn Anne Clarke, of Sarnia, after which the Lord's Prayer 'was repeated. Paul McMaster and Bobby Wright. receiv- ed the offering. It was decided . to have a Mission Band tea on Oct. 4 in the Sunday School room. Mrs. R. H. Williams told the story from the study book, "Fig Tree Village." SCHOOL OF MUSIC Register now for New Term 1947-48 Registration closes Sept. 20th Piano - Vocal - Theory Pupils' prepared for Toronto Conservatory and Western Conservatory Examinations Phone 106 Death of Arthur Caidwel'1. — The death occurred on Saturday, Sept. 6, of Arthur Caldwell in Clinton Hospi- tal, well known and highly esteemed resident of Brucefield: He had been ill about two months, being confined to bed but three weeks. The deceas- ed was born in Tuckersmith, on the 3rd coneession, and was in' his 79th year. One New Year's Day, 1903, he was married to Miss Jennie "B. Chap- man, who survives him, together, with one son, William, on the homestead, 3rd concession, Stanley, and two daughters, Mrs. Harvey Taylor, of Stanley, and Mrs. Hugh Riff, of Cali- fornia; also one sister, Mrs. Smalla- combe, of Moose Saw, Seek, In his early life he ;farmed near Kippen, moving to the 2nd of Tuckersmith in 1903. He later moved to. Stanley Township, and two years -ago retired to Brucefield. At cue time he served as a school • trustee and took an ac- tive interest in municipal activities. The funeral was held on Monday from the ' home of his son with Rev. E. R. Stanway, of Brucefield, officiat- ing. The pallbearers were his six nephews: Lyle Hill,. William Sinclair, Ross Chapman, William Caldwell, Harry' Caldwell and W. G. Chapman) of Brandon. 'Interment was in Baird's cemetery. e Death of Mrs. Donald MaeKenzie.— Seaforth's oldest resident, Mrs. Chris- tina Ross, widow of the late Donald MacKenzie,' .passed away on. Wednes- day afternoon, Sept. 10, about three o'clock, at her hone on South Main Street, in ter 95th year. Mrs. Mac- Kenzie had never 'been ill until two weeks ago. She had lived truly a re- markable life and had retained all her faculties despite "her advancing years. Bora in :.Dornoch, Sutherland, Scot- land, her 'maiden' name was Chris- tina Ross, and she .came to Canada in 1878 to become the bride of Donald MacKenzie, who had preceded her to this country a year arid a half earl- ier. She had lived in Seaforth ever since. A valued member 'of Egmond- ville Church,' she was regular in at- tendance, and was a life member of the W.M.S. Mrs. MacKenzie always was active in missions. Surviving are two daughters•.and three sons: Mei. Montgomery Patrick, of Tuckersmith.;' John C., of Seaforth; Alex R.,. of Oril- lia; Robert E., of Toronto, and Miss Rena, of Stratford. The funeral will take place from her late residence on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. A. W. Gardiner, her minister, officiat- ing. Interment will 'be in Maitland - •bank cemetery. The maid of honor was wearing a gown of pale yellow corded taffeta made in off-ehouidet style with ;bouffant skirt in bustle effect. The bridesmaids wore gowns of corded taffeta made in simi- lar style to that' of the maid of hon- or. Miss Strode was in pale orchid and Mrs. Knowles in pale turquoise. The three attendants carried nose- gays of rosebuds. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. McGavin had chosen a powder bine crepe dress and Mrs. Bell, mother of the bridegroom, was in dove gray' crepe. They wore ad- cessories in black and corsages of Talisman roses. Following a recep- tion in the church parlors, Mr. aid Mrs..Bell fat for Muskoka, the bride travelling in a navy blue dress with lime green accessories. They will take up residence in Brussels. Out- of-town guests were present from Brussels, Seaforth, Goderish, London, 'Toronto, Barrie, Waterford, Brantford and. San Francisco. .111114M11111•11111/111111110•10r LOCAL BRIEFS Carnochan - Truemner.--In a pretty bridal at Westminister Chapel, Lon- don, Friday _afternoon, Willis Beryle Truemner, Reg.N., daughter of Eldon Truemper, Melfort, Sask., became the bride of James Wankel Carnochan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James G. Carno- chan, Seaforth. The ceremo{y was performed "by Rev. S. C.JK, W;, .Cline and Ralph Gray played the wedding mps- ic, The bride was given in marriage by Dr. S. O. Rogers, B.A.., M.B. She wore white embroidered marquisette 'in princess sty+le with an off -shoulder neckline. The skirt fell softly to a train. Her finger-tip veil was caught with a Dutch cap and shecarried white gladioli in, her bouquet. Miss Imogene Sharpe, Reg.N., as her only attendant, wore blue, evabroidered marquisette in 'the same style, with a blue Dutch cap and veil. She carried pink gladioli. Jack Stevens, of Sea - forth, was best man, and the ushers were John Carnochan, brother of the groom, and Mr. ,Tile. A reception followed the ceremony at the home 01 Dr. and Mi's. Rogers, Westminster Hospital. Miss Helen Walter receiv- ed the guests with her niece, wearing a brown crepe dress with brown ac- cessories and a corsage of•red roses. The groom'smother assisted in a black ensemble. Leaving on a wed- ding trip to the bride's home, in Sas- katchewan, she wore a gray suit with black accessories and pink roses. It was a great day; a top-notch entry of 70 'doubles, and very keen greens with perfect weather were a combination hard to beat. Play commenced just before two o'clock and continued un- til after one in the morning.
