Finds Huron Towns
(Continued from Page 1)
the Huron County towns which for
years either lost .population or stood
still are growing at the present. time.
There is a leteet history connected
with Goderich as it was the capital
of the Canada Land. Co. 'Dr, Dunlop
who is the founder of Goderich is
buried across the Maitland River. He
was on amazing and romantic char-
acter. The tales Old of him are in-
numerable and almost fantaatic. He
is part of the lore of Huron County.
Steps should be taken by the govern-
ment, or the county, or the town to
preserve his grave. We hope some
day that a monument is erected to
this "Paul Bunyan" of Huron.
Clinton and Exeter,. like Goderich,
had air training centres in their vi-
cinity 'during the ,war. In both towns
the training centres are being cote
tinued. The radar training school
near Clinton which was a hush! hush!
affair during the, war is planned as a
permanent institkitinn and the Centra-
lia Air Field near Exeter is being re-
tained as.part of Canada's permanent
air force echeme.
•Seaforth is a go-ahead place and.
the Lions Club has built dn the edge
of the town a park with A bathing
pool which is a thing of beauty and
is -a. model ,for other, smaller towns.
The farmers co-operatives are expand-
ing in Huron County and are appar-
ently doing a good job in the develop-
ment and the marketing of farm pro-
duce throughout Huron. At Seaforth
we visited an egg grading plant which
was recently opened Under the man-
agement of Clare Reith, a former
Londoner. He showed us the plant
and the interesting egg grading pro-
cess. .
A number' of years • ago modt of
these small towns were losing popula-
tion; they were deteriorating. Indus -
„tries were moving to the larger cities
and; 'centralization was strangling
them. However, today there is appar-,
ently a' Swing towards decentraliza-
tion on the part of industry. New
plants are being built and the smaller
towns are taking a new lease of life,
all of which, makes for a better round-
ed way of life in Ontario.
One of the things which impressed
us when in Australia was • the cen-
ti.alization in the great cities. Aus,

lia, Brisbane in Queensland and Perth
in West Australia contain nearly half
of the population of their states.
There are few small cities and towns
or the- character which are so ri•m-
erous in Canada and particularly in
Ontario. Many of them are doll and,

culture such as can be found in our
smaller cities ans towns. Their life
