New Produce Division To
Be Open For PUblic In-
spection Saturday tien-

Another milestone in the history of
the Seaforth Farmers Co-operative
will be marked Thursday when the Co-
operative 'Produce Division opens. for
business in its modern plant on ,Main
Street.
Organized. in NoVember, 1942, When
it was fully financed locally, tliCo-
operativelds .grown steadily until to
day it is doing close to $1,000.00 of
business a day. The total volume in
its last fiscal year was $210,00, com-
pared to $100,000 business done in
1943, the first complete year of its,
operation. During the same period
membership has grown from 78 char-
ter members to 190.
The opening of the :poultry division
marks a change in policy, in that it
is 'the Co-operative's first venture in
a producers marketing. co-oPerative.
Heretofore it only h as func-
tioned as a feed and farm supply‘
unit. It is and will continue to be
fully affiliate& with the United
Farmers Cooperative.
Robert S. McKercher, McKillop,
who was elected presient of the Co-
operative on its organization in 1942,
and who continues. to hold that of-
fice, has been in' a large measure
responsible for its growth in the
intervening years. Associated with
Mr. McKercher in directing the af-
fairs Of the Co-operative • are Frank
Reynolds, secretary, and • Ross Me -
Gregor, T. W. McMillan, R. W. Camp-
bell, Robert _Tyndall and E. B. Gou-
die, directors.
-General Manager., Homer Hunt also
has been in charge of the Co-operative
,bilsiness since its inception. The
new produce division will "be in
charge of Manager Claire Reith,. Who
is well known- to Seaforth and dis-
trict residents. -
In announcing the opening of the
produce. division, Mr. McKercher
pointed out that no effort had been
spared,,to outfit the plant in the most
modern manner, to ensure complete
satisfaction on the part of members
and customers.
To give members and others inter-
ested an. opportunity of inspecting
the new plant, arrangements have
been made to have it open .Saturday
evening, July. 19.
ELDERLY HENSALL
RESIDENT PASSES
IN LONDON HOSPITAL
Mrs. Catherine Dayman, who pass-
ed away in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, on Wednesday, July 9, was
the wife of the tate James Dayman.
The former Catherine Makins, she
was born in Grey County in the year
1865, the daughter of Henry and
Sarah Makins. In 1885 she married
John J. Smith, and they farmed in
Stanley Township, later moving to

Hay Township 'where they farmed un-
til they retired to Zurieh. Seven years
later Mr. Smith passed away in Zur-
ich. Four years later she married
James Dayman and moved to his
farm in Tackersmith. From there
they Moved to Kippen and then to
Hensall: James Dayman passel, away
June 24, 1946. Mrs. Dayman hal been
in poor health since then.
Mr. Albert Shirray was taken to
St. Joseph's Hospital, London, for -an
emergency ruptured appendix opera-
tion.
Mr. Leonard N-oakes underwent an
operation on Saturday last at Clinton
Public .11ospital for appendicitis.
