day, 'May 29, of Harold T,; Fowler,

Fowier, formerly of the Huron Road,
West. He is survived by two sisters,
Misses Martha and Elsie Fowler, of
Seaforth. The funeral was held on
Saturday from the G. A. -Whitney
funeral .chapel with Rev- Bulteel, of
'C.linton, officiating: The pallbearers
were 'Messrs. James Carter, Robert
Scott. Roy .Lawson, Frank Fowier
and John Cooper. -• Interment was in
Harpurhey cemetery, ' -
The Late Mrs. 'Henry Smith.—The
death occurred in Milverton on Mon-
day, May 26., of 'vlrs. Henry Smith,
mother of H. E. Smith, of Seaforth,
in her 77th' year, Mrs. • Smith had
been ill for several months. She was
the former Louisa Ohm and was born
t*at' itostock, near Stratford, and resid-
ed with her husband, on a farm near
Rostock until 1920 when they moved
to. Milverton. She is survived by
three daughters, . Mrs. J. Unsworth
and Mrs, Andrew Thompson, of To-
ronto, 'and Mrs. Jack Grope, of Mil-
verton; and one son, H. E. Smith;.. oft
Seaforth; also one brother: Samuel
Ohm, of Milverton, and:three sisters,
Mrs. Sodawater, "London; 'Mrs. Dun-
gey, ,Sebringville, and. Mrs. Boyes,
Stratford, The funeral took place on
Thursday, May 29 with .a private ser-
vice at her rete residence end later
from' Mark's Evangelical Church , at
2 p.m. Rev. Feist officiated, and in-
terment was in -Milverton• cemetery: ”

St. Thomas' W. A. Holds Closing
Meeting.—The "closing meeting of the
season of St. Thomas' .WA. was held
in the parish hall on Tuesday with
nineteen .members and three visitors
present. Mrs. Gilbert opened the
meeting with the W.A, hymn, "The'
Love of Christ Constraineth," the
Marty, members' and Lord's Prayer
in unison: Mrs. Southgate read for
the Bible reading Psalm -99. The var-
ious reports were read and.. accepted.
While, the members stood, a special
memorial pralyer was. read. recalling
the passing of Vars. Wm. Smith. Mr.
Gilbert then addressed the meeting,
speaking briefly on the work of the
W.A. Of interest to all present was
the presentation: of a life. member-'
ship to 'Miss Carolyn Holmes. Mr.
Gilbert reed the service -of admission.
Mrs. W. .E, Sonthgate presented the
certificate of membership, and. Mrs.
Ada Reid pinned on the badge. The
meeting was closed' by the Rector
with the benediction. Tea was serv-
ed and a happy social hour spent.
First-' Presbyterian Ladies' 'Aid
Meets.—Toe June meeting of the
Ladies{ Aid of First Presbyterian
Church wa4 held in the school room
of the church on Tuesday afternoon
with a goad. attendance. 1Mrs.'"•H, R.
Scott, the president, was in the chair.
The meeting opened with the hymn,
"O God of Bethel," and was followed
with prayer by the president. Reports
were received and adopted." Several
items of business were discussed and
itewne .decided to cater, for the rallies

and October this year. A pleasing
number on the program was the sing-
ing of "May Morning" by Mrs. J. A.
Munn.. Mrs. David Ritchie Was the
guest speaker and chose for her sub-
ject, "Scotland," She gave a most
interesting and instruetivle address;
'telling of the influence of the lives of
outstanding poets, namely Sir Walter
Scott, -Robert Burns. and • Cortise.
She also enlarged °on the influence
these had on th-e life Of Scotland and
the world for the good of humanity.

Death' of Mrs, T. G. Scott.—Marg-
aret Ann Thompson, widow" ,•of the
late Thomas G. Scott, of Seaforth,
died at the home of her son in De-
troit an S'uuday, June 1. While. on
a • visit to the home of her eon early
in the year, Mrs. Scott had the mis-
fortune to fell and fracture her hip,
but was making a satisfactory recov-
ery when she suffered a, heart attack
on Sunday. She was born on the
Thompson homestead in MMKitlop
township 76 years ego, and spent her
early life there. On August 22, 1893,
she was united in marriage to Mr.
Thomas G. Scott, and since then had
continuously resided in Seaforth. - ur-
ing her long residence here she took
an active part .ire church -and social
circles, where .her genial, hospitable
personality had made her a general
favorite- Mrs. Scott was a member
of First Presbyterian Church and the,
Rebekah Lodge. Mr. Scott predeceas-

She is also survived by three. bro-
thers, Mr. William Thompson, of
Tuokersmith; Mr. Henry Thompson,
of Alberta, and Mr. Beattie Thomp-
'san, of .Vancouver. The funeral was
held from ' her late residence; John
Street,'' Seaforth, on Thursday 'after-
noon, at -2.30, when the services were
conducted by Rev,,P. A. Ferguson, of
Hensall, owing to the absence -of her
minister, Rev. H. R. Williams, in Cal-
gary. interment was in •M•aitlend-
bank cemetery, the .pallbearers being
-her four sons and Messrs, Scott Muff
and T. P. Clack.

The death took place "suddenly in, Sea -
forth on Wednesday of a well known
resident in the person of Helen H.en-
derson,- beloved wife of Mr. W. J. Mc,
Intosh,. in her 73•i -d year. Mrs.. Mc-

Groups 1 and. 2 of, the W.A. of North-
side United Church held a combined
meeting in the basement of the
,churolt on Tuesday evening, Mrs:
James M. Scott, leader of Group 2,
opened the meeting by reading Mr.
John Beattie's poem, "In the Garden,"
"For the .Beauty of the Earth" Was
sung, followed by the Lord's Prayer
in unison. Mies Audrey Hall end Miss
Janie Moffat rendered an enjoyable
duet, "We Would Be Building," ac-
companied by Mrs. P. B. Moffat. Mrs
Roy Lawson introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. David • Ritchie, who
spoke on "Ottawa,'' drawing a
parable, patriotic and,`: Christian,, from
her visits to -Rideau Hall, the Mint,
the Houses of Parliament, the Peace
Tower, and the .Churches. Miss R.
Fennell moved a vote of thanks to
Mrs. Ritchie, and the meeung closed
by singing "Oh, Let Us Sing of, a
Wonderful Love," followed b, gbu
Mirpah benediction. Mrs. G. Hog-
garth, leader of Group 1, conducted
an interesting contest, "The Art' Gal-
lery." A. social half-hour was spent
