Barbara Kirkman Holds Meeting.—
The March meeting of the Barbara
Kirkman Auxiliary was held on Tues-
day with a good attendance. Mrs. J.
E. Daley 'opened the` meeting with a
prayer and a short F:agter poem, Mrs.
J. W. Free and, her group 'were in
charge of the meeting and Mr -s. J. J.
Sclater read the current events. Mrs.
J. E. Keating played by' request a
piano selection, "Nearer My God To'
Thee," and Mrs. Reg Kerslake read.
the Scripture lesson, the 23rd Psalm.
The introductory chapter of the study
book was -taken by Mrs, R. H. Wil-
liams, while Mrs. J. E. Daley told of
the missionaries, -William Carey and
Henry Martin, and Mrs. F. W. Wigg
discussed John Buchanan and John
Wickie. The meeting closed. with
prayer by Mrs. R. H. Williams.
Death of William 'James Barron.—
The death occurred on Wednesday,
April 2, in Scott Memorial Hospital of
William James Barron, following an
illness. of 'thirteen weeks. Mr. Barron
was a well known figure as he went
about the town chatting with his many
.friends. He was in his 82nd year and
was born in. McKillop on lot 16 on
the 7th concession. and Was married
at Walton 19 years ago to Harriet
Dale Campbell, who survives him, to-
gether with one ..stepson, George
Campbell, of McKillop. Mr. Barron
was on'e of the most successful farm-
ers in McKillop Township before re-
tiring to Seaforth, twenty-nine years
ago. He was a member' of Northside
United Church. The funeral will take
place on Friday from -the G. A. Whit-
ney Funeral, Chapel with Rev. H. V.
Workman officiating, with interment
in Maittand'bank cemetery. •

drove to Mitchell and were served in
the Hicks House to a wedding dinner,
leaving in the afternoon on their
honeymoon.
Hart - Chesney. -The Marriage of
Margaret Elizabeth, second daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry, Chesney,. to
Kenneth Wilson, only son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Hart, Seaforth, was sol-
emnized on Saturday, March 29, at
the Egmondville United' Church Par-
sonage. Rev. A. W. Gardiiner off, iciat-,
ed. The bride wore white jersey
with metallic trim, her 'bouquet be-
ing, red roses. - She also wore the
groom's gift, a :string of pearls. Her
firi•desmaid, Missy Lois- • Dunlop, of
Galt, 'cousin of the groom, wore coral
pink jersey with silver trim -i her bou-
quet being pink roses. The groom
was supported by the bride's brother,
Pearson' Chebney. •The groom's gift to
the bridesmaid was a silver cream and
sugar, and to the groomsman a, gold
cameo tie pini. Following the cere-
mony a buffet lunch was served at
the home of the groom's parents. Lat-
er the young couple left on a trip to
Galt and Flint, Mich., the brid,e trav-
elling in a blue dress with blue top
coat with black accessories. On. their
return they will reside in Seaforth.
Alert Mission Band Meets. — The
Easter thankoffering meeting of the
Alert Mission Band of Northside Unit-
ed Church was held on Tuesday. The
president, Blanche Westcobt, conduct-
ed the meeting. The opening hymn
was "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus,,"
followed by prayer by Jean Snell. The
Scripturewas read by Patsy Hawkins,
which was .the 23rd Paelm, The min-
utes were rear. by`Gwen- Christie, the
'secretary. The roll call was answer-
ed by 34 members. ' This -was followed
by a chorus by the children, "Jesus
Loves' Me.",' Mrs. Bradshaw then wel-
comed the •mothers ,, and . visitorswkra
were the guests of the Mission Band
Mrs, Lawson, -who was the guest
speaker for, the occasion,• told+ a most
interesting story 'of the life of Dr.
Albert- Sw eiltzer, .missionary to Afri
ea, which was -enjoyed. Jean Snell
moved a vote of thanks- to Mrs. Law-
son, which was seconded by Marion
Chamberlain. This was followed by
a program by the children which in-
cluded: Vocal trio by Marion Cham-
berlain, Gwen Christie, and Jean
Snell; solo, Alice Christie; trio. Betty
Lou Gauche, Helen McGonigle aticl
Barbara Boshart; duet, Lirida Loiselie
, and Judy Boshart; recitation by Billy
Scott; duet .by Marie Hunt and. Joan
Hawkins; piano solo by Gwen. Chris-
tie; duet by Carol -and Maurice Lois -
elle; piano and vocal solo by Marion
.chamberlain; recitation by Maurice
oiselle; piano solo, Jean. Snell.; read-
ing by Teddy Savauge. The closing
hymn was "God Sees the Little Spar-
row Fall," and. the Mission Band bene-
diction was - repeated.. Lunch was
served and , a .social time enjoyed,

"Death of Melvin .A. McPhee.—The
,sudld'en passing of • Mr. Melvin
Phee, which occurred in Scott Mem-
oriel
emorial Hospital on Sunday • morning,
was- universally regretted by 'the citi-
zens of Seaforth and by a wide circle
of friends in the district. Mr. Mc-
Phee„was taken suddenly i11 on Thurs-
day and suffered a severe heart at-
tack on Sunday,” from which he never
rallied. He. had been d'otvn town on
Wednesday"previous to that, had. not
Complained of illness. H•e was born
in Lucan on April 1, 1873, but came,
to Seaforth as a child and' his whole
life was. spent in this town, • As a
Young man he learned the cabinet
making at the Broadfoat is Box Furni-
ture Factory and continuedto be em-
ployed there with -the Canada Furniture,
Co. until his retirement some 25 years. -
ago: Mr. McPhee was one of the
early members of the 33rd Battalion,
Band, -which later became. the -Sea-
forth Iiighlandersa' and was known as
one of the -finest bass horn players in
Western Ontario, For many years he
wa.s also a member of the Seafortli
Fire Brigade. Quiet, even reserved; -•in
manner, he nevertheless always ex,
hibi•ted a courtesy and charitableness,
that gained. and retained for hire an,
unusually large circle of friendo and,
acquaintandes. In fact, no one was
ever heard to -say say an ill thing about
"Mac"" McPhee, and his daily ,•press
ence on Main Street will be miss'd
during the lifetime of old friends. In
1903 Mr. McPhee was united- in mar,
riage at Clinton to Miss Letitia Dun.-
can,
un-can, who survives him. He is -also
survived by one daughter, Mrs. C. A.
MacAlpine, of Harrow, and two grand
Children. They funeral was held from;
his late residence, Louisa Street, on
Tuesday, •kpril 1, when the services'
were conducted by Rey. H; V. Work-
man of Northside United •Church, of
which Mr. McPhee was a member.
Interment was in Maitlandlbank ceme-
tery, the • paIlbearers'' being Messirs.
