Wednesday was '•Ladies' Night. It
was the annual tournament when the.
men., play hosts -to the ladies with a
tournament, followed by' lunch. Forty.
bowlers'took part. The greens were
exceptionally keen, with no dew right
to the, finish. Two 10 -end games were
played with the winners being: First,,
Mrs. 1Tartird"»Free, 2 wins plus 16;
second, Miss Pearl Patterson, 2 wins
plus ••14, and third, Mrs. Harry Stew-
art, 2 wins plus 13.
The lunch ' consisted of coffee,
doughnuts, cake and sandwiches:

were in charge of the evening,' with
Merton Reid handling the draw. The.
prizes were donated by the president,
C. P. Sills. The, men stayed and
'washed the dishes.

AGRICULTURAL 'SOC.
A reduction of six mills in the 1946
tax rate in the caste of public school
supporters was mooted ' as members
of Seaforth council considered. provi-
sional estimates for 1916 at its meet-
ing Monday evening, No action was
taken to pass estimates, however,
pending a full'" review of require-
ments.
All members of council were pres-
ent, except Reeve J. F. Daly and
Councillor -M. A. Reid. ' Mayor J..3.
Cluff presided.

On Monday evening the ladies held
a tourney with a good turnout. There
were no . prizes.
On Friday evening last three rinks
went to Wingham: Chad Glew and
Mrs,• E. H. 'Close; Lorne Dale and
Mrs: Wm. Hart; M. A, Reid, and Miss
Alice Reid. Lorne Dale. and Mrs. W.
Hart won second prize.
• Next Wednesday there will be lit-

Two nights, Wednesday and Fri,

With entertainment drills are plan-
ned by the Seaforth Lions Club for
the club's twelfth annual summer
carnival.
Heading the Wednesday night en-
tertainment are the'Phirlos; an amaz-
ing roller skating exhibition. Also on
the program ate Pat McIntosh, a
singing 'comedian of the old school,
and. Gordon Bernisisiti, an outstand-
ing. accordian player. The Ovettes,
popular magicians, end tho Ripleys,
an acrobatic team the . is as good as
any in the business spotlight will ap-
pear on the Friday night show.
Aspecial' feature oti,'» Friday night
will,_ be the'50-pitece: or
Police
Boys' Band, which recently captured
honors at the Waterloo Music 'Fes-
tival. , The Lucknow Pipe Band and
the .Seaforth Highlanders Band will
be on the program both nights.
The outstanding ',feature of last
summer's carnival, the _CKNX quiz
program, is being repeated this year
'with a new' and better' program.
In addition to the pibgram, booths
including the old favorites and many
new ones, will be operating, Open-
air dancing will take place on a spe-
ciaily constructed' . hoot, ° The carni-

amazing fireworks display,.

The first reunion of ' the Norris
family was held' -Wednesday ••afternoon
on the old homestead of the late Hugh
Norris, on the llth coccession of Hib-
bert Township. The late Mr.' Norris
and his wife, Mary Horton, raised '-a
family of 12 children, six boys and
six girls, of, whom all but two are
still living. The'goungest son, .Harry
Norris, who also is the father of 12,
is now farming on the family home-
stead. ;
• :Oldest member of the family at-
tending the reunion was Mrs. Liza
Cole, now in her 84th year; youngest
was Bobby Storey. aged seven
months. The , reunion was attended
by nearly 100 members of the fam-
ily. •
The executive elected' to arrange
the 1947 reunion consists of James
Norrie, Sr.,.' Hugh Norris, Sr., Major
Lance Norris and ,MrS. Alden Wil-
liams. -

farm, adjoining Seaforth on No. S
Highway, on Tuesday.
While engaged in haying opera-
tions,,he was driving the horse on the
hay fork in the barn when something.

the fork failed to trip. 'The sudden
stoppage -broke the whiffletree behind
the hOrse and the end, flew back and
'struck Mr.y Gdudie, on the knuckles,
driving them ,back' into his hand.'. • -,
'The injury was both serious and
painful, and Mr. Goudie will be 'one -
handed for some time.

Tuckersmith municipal council' held
its regular meeting en Saturday, • July
6, in the Town Hall, • Seaforth, All
members were present.
The surety bond of $5,000 on fie
treasurer was renewed with the Do-
minion of Canada General Insurance
Company through their agent, M. A.
Reid,, and the premium en road'insur-
ance of $106,25 was also paid.
John M, Govenlock and Russell
Bolton, of the Seaforth Agricultural
Society, waited on eouncil, requesting
a grant for the society and were giv-
en $100.00. Council, also reduced the
charge for power• grader work done
for the..3ociety by $14.00, representing
8% hours' work.
James McLean was ordered paid,
$75,00 for a heifer killed by dogs,
and A. 18. Belt, valuator, was paid $2
for his services. .
The time for opening tenders for
the construction of the garage was
extended to July 20. 1946.

The Women's Missionary Society
of the United Church held their
monthly meeting Thursday afternoon,
July 4. ' The meeting took the form •
of a picnic, held on the churcii own.
Mrs. Cross, the president, tdok the
chair • for the meeting, which opened
by singing "We've a Story To Tell T.
the Nations," followed with the Lord's
Prayer. The Scripture le'sson wasread
by Mrs. Carlile and prayer by Mrs.
Laramie. Rev: B. S. Smillie, of Ras-
alpura, India, a missionary now home
on. furlough, was the guest speaker,
presenting a very interesting account)-
•of bis work as a missionary, and the
ways=, and customs' of the people of
that land, Mr. Smillie was very ninth'
