on Wednesday afternoon, June 5, at

with a good attendance. The meet-
ing opened with "0 Canada" played
softly by Mrs. J. Henderson and the
call to worship by ,Mrs. W. W. Coop-
er, who presided. Hymn No. 16 was
sung and Mrs. Cooper read the Scrip-
ture and Mrs. J. W. McLean led in:
prayer. Hymn No. 510 was sung.
Mrs. A. Monteith had charge of the
study and was assisted 'by Mrs. A:
McM•urtrie. Mrs. Hubert. Jones, Mrs.

The Late Murdock .Ross
Bayfield's 'grand old man,' .Murdock.
Ross„ died at his home in the village
on Monday evening tbllowing a short
ilinees'. He was born iii Galt. Septem-
ber 26. 1852. where his parents, Chris-
tie Montgomery and M. Ross had ball -
.ed on their journey from Cape Breton
to take up land near Tiverton. They
lived there for about 17 years. • After
tb'e monther's death the father went
back to Cape Breton. On his return
he settled in Buffalo where the chil-
dren joined him. After living in Buff-
alo for three years he -returned to
Tiverton.. While cutting cord wood
a.t•Inverhuron he was contacted by a
man named McBwen who bad a $60,-
000 contract for building Bayfield har-
bor, and he came here- after New
Years in 1875 with his team of horses
to draw stones for the harbor, Later=
he started fishing with John Pollock
and .finally he acquired his own boat.

sold his boat and business", Familiar-
ly known as Capt'n Ross for years to
summer victors who enjoyed trips in
his sail. boat he was widely known. A
man of stern Calvinistic principals lie

years of residence here he took an
active part .iu the cabmen -ay life,
having served on, the counuii, later
the Trustee Hoard of Bayfteid, He wad

Melina /far/eagle, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harrison, who ,lyre -
deceased him in 1943. Five children
survive: Mrs. R. J., Kiser, St. Peters-
burg. Fla.: Mrs. R. M. Newcombe,
,Philadelphia, Pa.: Mrs. George Davi-
son. Woodstock; Mrs: Irene Bassett,
Bayfield. and William J. Ross, Los
Angeles, California. Interment was in
Bayfield cemetery: Fallbearers were
Archie Armstrong, Joseph Richardson,
George Little. Willard S•turgon, Ross
Harrison and Carlile Hueston. Rev
D. J. Love, pastor of• Knox Presbyter-
ian Church. officiated, assisted by
Rev, R. W. Butt, of Woodstock.
