Alert Mission rand Holds Meeting.
—The Alert Mission Band of North-
side United Church held their April
meeting' on Tuesday after school in
the S nday school room.of the church:
The p e.sident, Blanche Westcott, was
in the chair, and the -meeting', opened
by singing "Jesus Bids Us Shine," fol-
lowed by the Lords Prayer repeated
iu uni'son. Gwendolyn Christie led in
the Scripture reading, "The. Beati-
tudes," which were read responsive-
ly. "I Am So Glad That Jesus Loves
`Me" was sung. .The secretary. Marion
'Chamberlain. read the minutes •of the
last meeting, and 25 members answer-
ed the roll call. Jackie Crozier took
up the collection, and Teddy Savauge
gave out . the thankoffering envelopes.
The business period was 'then held,
followe.d by the 23rd Psalm being re-
peated from memory. Mrs:. Barber
.told the story of the fourth 'chapter
of the study book., The closing hymn
was "`God, Sees the ' Little Sparrow
Pall," and the Mission •Band benedic-
tion was -repeated. Jean,,.,;3ne11- was
pianist for the meeting. A play per-
iod was enjoyed by all.
Powell - Moore.: Avery pretty wed-
ding was solemnized at St. Thomas'
Anglican Church, Seaforth, on Mon-
day,• April .15th, by Rev. C. F. L. Gil-
bert, when Yvonne Lorraine, young-
est .daughter of 1Vlr. and . -Mrs. A. W.
Moore, Seaforth, became the bride of
Kenneth George, elder son of Mr. and
Mrs. Baden. Powell, Seaforth. The
bride looked charming in a street -

best man, a tie set. A reception was
held at the Commercial Hotel, after
which the happy couple left for points
east, the bride travelling in a brown
suit. with matching accessories.

The late Mr. Hart, nuke Was in, his
87th year wart the eldest son o'f the
late GeOrg'e Hart and. J' net Qoombs,.
In addition to Withto ,';'and Seaforth
1 e•resittied "tor Ebert periods in -Strat-
ford, Q ielph and latterly in Niagara
Falls: He is survived by a family of
Eour: 'Wallace, of Sudbury; Bert, of
Milatieo; Mae, of Miami, Florida, and,
Libbie, of Niagara Falls. He was
buried at `Iamilton, Ont., beside his
wife, who tired about six, years ago 'at
Hamilton.
ci ath or Mrs, John Hartman.—The
death took place of 'Caroline Strubb,
wife of 1VIr. John Hartman, on Wed-
nesday, April 17th, at her home, Jar-
vis Street, following au illness of four
weeks. Mrs. Hartman .was born in
Waterloo County pn Feb. 26, 1869, .and'
after her marriage_ lived four miles
'south, of Zurich before coming to Sea -
forth twenty. years ago. Besides her
.husband she is survived by six sons
and one daughter: Bernard, Thed-
ford; Edwin, Goderich; -Charlie, Sar-,
nia; Kuno, Zurich; Philip, Zurich;
John, Hainilton.' and Agnes, of Wal-
laceburg; also by one sister, Mrs.
Meaham, Kitchener, and twenty' -four
grandchildren and two.. great grand-
children. Services will be' jieid on
Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by in-
terment in St. James' cemetery, and
Requiem` High Mass will be sung on
Monday morning at 9.30 .am, in St.
James' Church,

Northside W. M. S. Meets --The
Woman's Monthly Missionary meeting
of Northside United Church was held
Thursday, Apr'i1...11th. The president,
Mrs. R. Lawson, opened the meeting
with the hymn, "In „Christ There is
No East or West," followed by prayer.
Minutes, of the March meeting were
read by. the secretary, Mrs. Porteous.
The treasurer's report on the first
quarter was read by Miss A. Fergu-
son, and a reading on Christian stew-
ardship, "The .Place of Power," was
read by Mrs. J. FTinlayson.• Mrs. J.
Brown gave a report of the money
spent on supply goods. The business
discussion was, taken .by the presi-
dent. A social meeting' Is to be held:
in Ma.y. A temperance reading was
given by Mrs. C. .C. Kaine. Visits re-
ported b`'r Circle 3 were thirteen. Mrs.
T. McMichael gave a reading frodr
the Watch Tower, "The Christians'
Solution " • Mrs. Workman spoke .on
the work of the crusade. Mrs. C.
Glew, Captain .,of Circle 4, then took
charge of the meeting. The theme of
the-irieeting was, "Ye shall be my wit-
nesses,". followed with a hymn read
in unison. Scripture' readings were.
given by Mrs's A. Ferguson,' Mrs. J.
Barron awn Miss Wallace, followed
with a reading by Mrs. Glew. ,"•Crus-
ade For. Christ" was taken by. Mrs.
Bertha Pollard, then the hymn, -"Hap-
py the ,Hoppe; When God is There,"
was sung.: Mrs. Maud • Webster led in
prayer. The collection was taken by -
Mrs. Barron and the meeting closed
with the; •hymn, ."Lord,' Dismiss Us
With Thy Blessing." '

dent of the W.A.,. opened the meeting
with Hymn 500 and the;Lord's Prayer
was repeated ,in ,unison. The minutes
of the last :Meeting were • read and
adopted and`: the. roll call answered
with the, text word 'Hope.' A short
business portion followed.. Mrs. A. W.
Gardiner, president of the W.M.S.,
then took over the meeting and Hymn
98 was sung; and Mrs. Gardiner Jed
in prayer. This • being the Easter
thankoffering meeting of the W.M.S.,
Mrs.,,,C.'-F, L. Gilbert, Seaforth, was
the guest speaker. 'She showed how
sacrifice •was'•not a new- thing, but
had been handed down to us from old
Bibical times.;. how Abraham was.
about to offer his son upon the altar
of sacrifice when God in His great
.wisdom Provided. the sacrifice, but
when it came to save mankind there
was no other way but God to give Itis'
only begotten son' as a sacrifice for
lost humanity. We, too,• at this Eas-
t(Irtitne should bring our material of-
ferjngs to be used ,for -the spread of
the Gospel- of Jess Christ, but we
should also give ourselves for His ser-
vice. The Easter theme, "Ye Shall Be
Our Witnesses," was taken 'by Mrs.
W. McMillan: Hymn 89 was sung and
Mrs.^Gardiner closed the meeting with
prayer.' Mrs. Alex Pepper conducted
a contest and Mrs. Elmer Cameron
rendered an 'instruimentald'on the piano
accompanied by Mrs. Victor Lee on
the guitar. Lunch was served by
