Girls' Branch of W.A Meets.—The
Girls' Branch of q. the W.A. of St•
Tllonias' Church held, its regular
meeting on Tuesday, ,Qct. 16th, in the
Pariah hall. Before the meeting the
girls had their supper together and
had a very enjoyable time. Lillian
Southgate, president, occupied the
chaid. Donna Agar read the Scrip-
ture lesson, followed by the Lord's
Prayer and the girls' prayer in uni-
son. The minutes of the previous
meeting were read with nine mem-
bers answering the roll call. Jacque:
line Brown joined the Girls' Branch
at this meeting. Business was then
discussed and the members inspect-
ed the bale which is almost ready to
be sent. The meeting closed with
the bernediction-

Funeral of the Late Daniel J. (Gus)
Munroe.—The funeral of the late
Daniel J. (Gus) Munroe, of Oshawa,
was held from the residence of Mrs.
L Bolton, on Thursday morning at
9.30, to St. James' Church. Requiem
High Mass was sung by Rev. Father
T. P. Hussey, P.P. The deceased was
b.rn in Seaforth over fifty-two- years
ago, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
James J. Munroe, also formerly of
Seaforth. Since leaving Seaforth
some years ago he ran a butcher
business in'•Montreat and St. Cathar-
Ines. Of later years he was employ-
ed at General Motors in Oshawa.
Four brothers and two sisters prede-
ceased him some years age. The de-
ceased is. survived by ,t4 o brothers,
George, of Oshawa, and P. J., of
Montreal. Those who attended the
funeral from a distance were; Mr.
George Munroe, of Oshawa, and P.
J., of Montreal; Mrs. Nina Hubble, of
Oshawa, and Mr. David Bolton, of
Waterloo. Interment was made in
the family plot in St. James' ceme-
tery, Seaforth.

Northside W. M. S. Meets. — The
monthly meeting of the W.M.S. of
Northside United Church was held
Thursday, Oct. llth, Mrs. R. Law-
son, the president, opened the meet-
ing with a hymn being sung and fol-
lowed by prayer. Minutes of the Sep-
tember meeting were read by the
secretary, Mrs. A. L. Porteous, Busi-
ness was discussed and two dele-
gates were appointed to attend the
Sectional meeting in Egmondville on
Oct. 18th, Mrs. J. Finlayson and Miss
A. Ferguson. The treasurer's report
was read by Miss A. Ferguson. A
reading on Temperance was given by
Mrs. (Rev.) Kaine, and , the Watch
Tower reading' by Mrs. T. J. Mc-
Michael. Circle 1 reported six visits
during the month. Circle 2 then took
charge of the meeting. The subject
was on the people of Africa, with
five members taking part: Mrs. H.
R. Spence, Mrs. R. Lawson, Mrs. J.
J. Pollard, Mrs. F. Harburn and Mrs.
A. L. Porteous. The offering was
received by Mrs. Hanna, and the
meeting closed by repeating the
Lord's Prayer in unison.

Thomas G. Soole.—Thomas Guthrie
Soole, 84, past secretary -treasurer of
the Toronto Baseball Club and for 72
years associated with the printing in-
dustry of Ontario, died October 5th,
in the Private Patients' Pavilion,
Toronto General Hospital, following a
lengthy illness. He was in charge of
sales at the Toronto Type Foundry.
Mr. Soole was born and educated at
Seaforth, and entered the printing
trade at the age of 12 years when he
joined the staff of The Huron Exposi-
tor as a printer's devil. There' he
served his apprenticeship in the
trade. In 1879 he went to Toronto
and became associated with the firm
of Bengough Brothers Ltd. Late in
the same year he secured a position
in the Presbyterian Office on Jordan
St., then owned by C. Blacket Robin-
son. Two years later he went to the
old Globe. In 1883 he and the late
Charles Miller organized the firm of
Miller and Soole. With the death of
Mr. Miller in 1893, the firm's name
was changed to the Soole Printing
Co. • •He• joined the Toronto Type
Foundry when he sold his business in
1903. A man of diverse interests, he
became interested in the Toronto
Baseball Club in 1897 and for a num-
ber of year served as secretary -treas-
urer. He resigned the post in 1903,
but ,he still retained his interest in
the sport. Last year, he attended his
50th consecutive opening game. Mr.
Soole was a member of the Toronto
Board of Trade for 27 years, honor-
ary president of the Toronto Club of
Printing House Craftsmen, honorary
president of the Hanlan's Island As-
sociation, life member of Rheboam
Lodge A.F. and. A.M., and Knights of
Pythias, and past president of the
Huron Old Boys' Association. Mem-
ber of the Advisory Council of the
Church of the Epiphany, Anglican,
he is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Georgina Douglas Watson Soole, and
a daughter, Dorothy.

NATIONAL FILM'BOARD PICTURES
Cavan Church 70th Anniversary
The 70th anniversary of Cavan
Church was held on Sunday, October
14th, when large congregations ' at-
tended the services. Rev." W. A. 'Bee-
croft, of Wingham, was the guest
speaker both morning and , evening.
The choir was in charge of Mrs.
Frank Johnston, with the male quart-
ette of First Presbyterian Church,
Seaforth, furnishing the special num-
bers, the members 'being Messrs. Jas.
T. Scott, Louis Hemberge'r,.. M. R.
Rennie and D. L. Reid. - Their choice
of numbers was suitable for the occa-
sion and was greatly enjoyed by the
congregations. The beautiful• bon,
quet of chrsyanthemums was -'sent by
Mrs. J. J. Skalitzky, of Alberta, in
memory of her father and mother and
brother, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Mc -
Culla and Mr. Wm. McCulla. Prior
to the Sunday services, letters were
received from many former ministers
or their widows, and many old friends
were present to join in • celebrating
this event in the history of the
church.
On Monday evening a fowl supper
was served td some 350 persons. The
Cplborne St. United Church mixed
quartette, and violinist, accordionist
and reader, London, put on a splen-
did program which occupied the re-
mainder of the evening. The pro-
ceeds were ;most gratifying.
Lieut. NS. Isabel Betties is spend-
ing a seven-day leave at her home.
Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Taylor, of
Staffa, and Mr. and- Mrs. Lorne Wil-
son and Stewart; of Brucefield, vis-
ited Mr. and Mrs. Robert McClure.
Mr. and Mrs. Sydney McCullough,
