To ,Honor Principal.—Twenty years principal of Guelph Vocational Insti- tute, John F. Ross, who is retiring, will be honored 'by the staff and graduates of, the school and either citizens. A portrait in oils of Mr. Ross will be painted and hung in the school, it was announced. Mr. Ross is a former principal of Seaforth Col- legiate. Victim of Car Accident.—The sud- den death of James O'Connell took place near Mt. Clemens, Mich-, on Tuesday evening, July 24th, when the car in which he was riding, missed a curve and turned over, pinning him beneath it. He was instantly killed, Mr. O'Connell was born in Seaforth 39 years ago, son of Mrs. J. D. O'Con- nell and the late Mr. O'Connell, and received his education in the Separ- ate School and Seaforth Collegiate. He later joined the staff of the Cana- dian Bank of Commerce, and twenty years ago he went to Detroit. At the time of his death he was an officer in the Wayne Oakland Bank, and was also president of the Junior Chamber Of Commerce in Highladd Park. He is survived by his wife, the former Della Melloche, of Windsor, and two sons, James and John, and one daugh- ter, Carol Ann; also by his mother, Mrs. J. D. Church held a pot- luck supper at the Lions Park on Tuesday evening, July 24th, at 6.30 p.m. At 8 o'clock the members were summed together and Mrs. E. B. Goudie opened the meeting by read- ing a poem, "Larkspur," by H. Isabel Graham. Mrs. F. J. Bechely then presided and prayers were offered by Mrs: J. Kaiser and Mrs. E. C. Cham- berlain. Mintites, of •the June meet- ing were read by the secretary, Mrs. George Johnston. •Business, was dis- cussed, followed by the roll call dur- ing which visitors and neSw members were -!introduced. M. Bell, of Hensall, arid the late Mrs. Bell. Rev. A. H. Johnston per- formed the ceremony. Mrs. Harold Johnston was at the organ console for the bridal music, The bride given in marriage by Mr. D. F. McGregor, of Egmondviile, was lovely an a floor - length gown of white faconne crepe, and her floor -length veil with heart - shaped headdress was imported from England, and she wore a gold locket, ;the gift of the groom. Her bridal uquet was roses and Bouvardia tied wkth pink ribbon. Miss Erma Wal- ters, Seaforth, matron of honor, wore heaven blue Taconne crepe, floor - length, with string of pearls, with her headdress veiled cape caught with pink and blue flowers, and she car- ried Johanna Hill roses and bouvardia tied with rose ribbon, The brides- maid, Miss Gertrtade Murray, graduate missionary of Toronto Bible College, wore her graduation dress, floor - length, of white priority crepe, her headdress of veiled crepe caught with pink and blue flowers, . Serv- ing. were Mrs. David McLean and Mrs. Alex Boyer, Seaforth. For their wedding trip to Toronto, Buffalo, N. Y., Thousand Islands and Montreal, the bride travelled in a red two-piece wool crepe, wearing her Provincial Honor Institute pin, red veiled hat, accessories in black, and carrying a brown 'tweed coat. The groom's gift to the bride was a gold locket; to the matron of honor, silver relish dish; bridesmaid, silver butter dish; flower girl, heart -shaped locket; best man, 'initial tie pin; usher, morocco billfold, and to Mrs- McLean and Mrs. Boyes, a seven -piece Pyrex service set. Congratulatory messages by cablegram were received from Pte. William Snow, of Holland, friend of the groom, and from Pte. Howard Walters, of Jamaica, cousin of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Bell will reside on the groom's farm on the Zurich Road, one mile west of Hensel!. Died in Calgary,—Word was receiv- ed this week of the passing of Fred Davis, Mr. Davis was the third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Davis, of Mitchell. Born in Mitchell 77 years ago and spending his earlier years there he had the distinction of being the town's youagest mayor, holding this office while still in his twenties. During his administration concrete sidewalks were introduced and many a ,street had its first walk built. He left Mitchell over 45 years ago and moved to Seaforth, where he conducted a grocery store for some time, later living in Goderich, after which he went West and farmed on an extensive scale, making his resi-. dence in Calgary where death took place. He had the honor of being elected a Conservative member of the provincial parliament for Alberta and also represented East Calgary in the Federal House. The late Mr. Davis was a member of the Anglican Church. His` wife, the former Miss Margaret Davidson, of Seaforth, pass- ed away some years ago while on a visit to Mitchell, and surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Evans Davis, of London, and Mrs. Don Sprung, of Calgary. Furieral arrangements have not yet been made but the body Will be brought to Mitchell for burial, Pre- sumably on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
