The roller fees have come in very
well this year. There are • a few' yet
that are still outstanding. If you
had your lawn rolled this past spring
and didn't pay the' operator of the
roller, you could leave your fee with
Smitty. The roller committee would
appreciate having them cleaned up
this week.
The big tournament slated for next
Wednesday, July 11th, is postponed
rnntdl Monday evening, July 23rd. ,
Monday evening, July 2nd, was very
tauccessful. The bowlers and golfers
'wish to thank all who helped r to
make the evening a success.

Misses Annie, Jean and Janet Mur-
ray, of Gerrie, accompanied by Mr.
Doig, visited with friends in the vi-
cinity during the week.
Mrs. W. Chapman, of Egmondville,
was a guest for a few days with rel-
atives in the neighborhood.
Mr. and Mrs. Lannis Seaman and,
family, of Kitchener, are expected• to
spend the holidays •with friends and
relatives in the community.
CROMARTY
Quite a number from- the vicinity
attended the dance at Slavin's, 'near
Chiselhurst, on Friday evening and
spent a good time.
The children, with. a few of their
parents, met, at, the school on Friday
last and enjoyed a good time and had
a nice entertainment, and also- pres-
ented Miss Cole, the teacher, who, is
leaving for another school, with a
lovely magazine holder in apprecia-
tion of her services for the past `three
years, and wishing her all success in
her. new situation. •
At time of writing . Mrs. Scott is
not showing much improvement. We
wish for a change for the better in,
the near future.
Mrs. Fischer, of Guelph, is at pres-
ent visiting at her home near the
,village, and calling on friends.
Mr: and Mrs. Alf. Dow, of Grims-
by, were visitors at.. the home of Mrs.
S. A. Miller one, day last week.
Miss Gladys Batten, of Winchelsea,
visited one day last week With her
aunt, Mrs. Miller. ,
A few from the 'village motored to
the lake on Sunday last and enjoyed
the fresh breeze of Lake Huron.
Death of Mrs. James Scott -
The death took place of a highly es-
teemed resident of Cromarty in the
person of Margaret Laing, daughter
of the late Tboirias ,and Elizabeth'
Laing, and wife of Mr. James Scott
on Tuesday, July 3rd, Mrs. cott
had not' had good health for some
years but was only confined to bed
for the past six weeks. She was in.
her 80th year. Mrs. Scott took an
active interest in all branches of the
church and had Abe, honor of
never missing a missionary meeting
for many years. She was a member
of Cromarty Presbyterian Church, the
W.M.S. and the Ladies' Aid. She is
survived by one son, Thos. L. Scott,
of Cromarty, and one daughter, Mrs.
(Rev.) R. G. McKay, of Woodbridge.
One son, Russel Scott, predeceased
her in 1939. A brother, John Laing,
and a sister, M-rs. Neil Gillespie, of
Seaforth, also survive. The funeral
was held on Thursday from her late
residence, with interment In Staffa
cemetery. Rev, Mr. McWilliam offi-
ciated.
Mr. and Mrs. Len Houghbon and
son, Frank, visited in Mount Forest
on Sunday and Monday with her
]brother,, Mrs. Phalen, also her bro-
ther, Paratrooper Phomas Phalen,
who has just returned from overseas
on a 30 -day leave before proceeding
to the Far East.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas iL. Scott mote
ored to Toronto on Friday and at-
tended the an•arriage in Toronto of
his cousih, Thomas Gillespie, on Sat-
urday. He IS a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Neil Gillespie, of Seaforth.
Mr. James Barr, accompanied by
his mother, Mrs. Margaret Bat•r, of
Stratford, also Mrs. Wm. Lamoine, of
New York, and Mise Helen Robert-
son of Oshawa, were Sunday visitors
