was held! Tuesday, Dec. 12th, at 8 p.m.
The meeting opened wit+lt .the hymn,
"In Christ There is No East or West,"
followed with prayers by Eleanor
Weaver, Fred Weedmark• and Made-
line Wi'1n. The scripture reading
was given by Ernie Clarke. The roll
was •called and the offering received.
The reports of the secretary and
treasurer were read. The hymn, "0
God of Love" was song, followed by
the election of officers. The meeting
closed with the hymn, "Silent Night,
Holy Night," and the Mizpah benedic-
tion. The officers for 1945 are aspil-

Death of/James Devereaux.—James
Devereaux, widely known and esteem-
ed resident of Seaforth, passed away
on Monday, December 10th, following
an illness extending over the past two
years.., 'Mr. Devereaux was ,a son of
the late John Devereaux, and was
born, ou the D'eyereaux homestead, ad-
joining_ Seaforth on the Huron High-
way, 78 years ago, where the greater
part of Ma 'life was spent. He was
one of the -most successful farmers
in the Township of Tuekersmith,
where. he resided until twenty-four
years ago, when' he retired and pur-
chased the residence in Seaforth, op-
posite the Collegiate Institute, where
he continued to reside until his death.
He . was a devent • member of St.
James' Roman Catholic Church and
of the Holy Name Society. He is
survived by his wife, who was form-
erly Miss Kathleen Lennon, and by
one brother and one sister, Mr. Robert
Devereaux and Mrs. John McDonald,
of Windsor. Onesister and three
brothers predeceased him: Miss Cath-
erine, John, William. and Daniel Dev-
ereaux. ' The funeral was, held from
St. James' Church on Thursday morn-
ing, when Requiem Mass was sung by
Rev. Father T: P. Hussey, and was
largely attended. Interment was
made in St. James', cemetery.

Lillian, daughter of Mrs. Wright and
the late Alex Wright„ and` Robert
William Tyndall, son of. Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Tyndall, were united in mar-
riage by Rev. A. W. Gardiner. They
were attended •by Mr. and • Mrs.. Gor-
don Wright. The bride chose a two-
piece wool dresa and•wore a shoulder
corsage of whitecarnations, and the,
bridesmaid wore a navy' wool .dress
and .a bouquet of pink' Carnations.
Following a short honeymoon they
will reside in Tuckersmith-

The Late Mrs. R. E. Coates. -- The
death occurred In • Scott Memorial
Hospital, Seaforth, on Friday, Dec.
8th, • of Isabella Mary McMichael,
-widow of the' Ia,te .R. E. Coates, in
her 70th year, following a short ill-
ness. Mrs. Coates had been in fail-
.ing health . for some time but was
'able to be about until the day before
her death when she was taken ill.
Deceased was born in, McKillop and
was married to Mr. Coates ,forty-five
years ago, and lived in the States for
a short time beforecoming to Sea -
forth where she spent the remainder
of her life. She is survived by two
sons, Frank,' of Pickering, and Har-
old, of 'Montreal. Mrs. Coates was a
faithful member of Northside United
Church, and also a member of the W.
M. S. and Ladies' Aid. The funeral
took place on Monday --from the fun-
eral : chapel of G. A. Whitney with
Rev. H. V-' Workman officiating.. The
Pallbearers were Dr. Fri J. Burrows,
Joseph Scott, A. L. Porteous, Fred
Scarlett, M. A. Reid and Dr. F. S.
Harburn. Interment was made in
Maitlandbank cemetery.

can Church, Seaforth, was the setting
for the marriage' of Mildred Irene
Swan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Swsrv, Seaterth, to Mr. Jerome A.

Rev. C. F. L. Gilbert officiated. The
bride, escorted to the altar by her
brother, Kenneth L. Swan, wore a
gown of white sheer, fashioned with
a sweetheart neckline and bouffant
skirt. Her finger-tip veil was caught
to her head with a coronet of orange
blos'sonns. She carried a bouquet of
red Talisman roses, white carnations
and bouvardia. Her only 'ornament
was a blue and gold locket. Miss

Barbara Kirkman Holds Annual
Meeting. -The, annual meeting of the
Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary of First
Presbyterian Church was held Tues-
day evening. The chair was opcupied
by the ' vice-president, Mrs, H. R.
Scott, who conducted the business
part, • of 'the meeting. Reports were
received from the various officers and
convener of committees' showing --'the
auxiliary ,had done good work during
the past year, as well as exceeding•
their allocation pf, $500... Mrs. M. ,Mc-
Kellar conducted the devotional part
of the meeting, as convener of the
group that prepared' the- evening's
program. Mrs. C. Reith read the
scripture lesson and Mrs. Scott Hab-
kirk gave the Glad Tidings Prayer.
The offering was received by Mrs. R.
1VlcFaddin and Mrs. -Wallace Rosa.
Mrs. J. F. Scout bad the topic and
gave in a most pleasing way -Henry
Van Dy'ke's story of ',`The Other Wise
Man”" She also read a Christmas
meas'age•as given by Bishop Reccisen.
At the close of the meeting a cup of

Mae Lane Auxiliary Elects Officers.
—The Women's Missionary Society of
Northside United Church were Christ-
mas guests of the Mae Lane Auxiliary
which held their December meeting
on "Friday last. The basement of the
church was attractively decorated- for
the occasion ' by the decorating com-
mittee.• An added attraction was the
White Gift 'Christmas tree around
which- were numerous gifts donated
by the 'Mae Lane members to be sent
shortly to •the hospital at Gypsum-
vilile., Mrs. B. F. Christie, lst vice-
pre•sident, opened the meeting by read-
ing a poem entitled. "Is My Heart
Prepared For Christmas'?" Hymn 223,
"Saviour, Thy Dying Love," was sung
and prayers were offered by Miss Ab-
bie Seip and Mrs. E. B. Gaudie. Af-
ter surging the National Anthem, Mrs.
F. J. Bechely, Auxiliary president,
welcomed the visitors and members.
The minutes of the November meet-
ing were read by the secretary, Miss
Emily Leste-. Amami reports were
given by the various secretaries in
which they reported a very 'succeas-
ful year. The Auxiliary has 46 mem-
bers with an average attendance of
38. Mrs. iP. B.- Moffat, Captain of
Circle 4, then took the chair and the
hymn, "0 Little Town of Bethlehem
was sung, followed with ,prayer ., by
Mrs. H'. Snell. Mrs. Hugh Thompson
read the scripture lesson, Luke IL A
