for some 'years took an active inter-
est in the Sunday School and other

two brothersand a, sister, Mr. Wil-
liam *Bethune, of 'Midland; Mr. Alex-
ander Bethune, of Seaforth, and 'Mrs.
Mutrie, of Vernon. The remains will
arrive in Seaforth on Friday morning
and a private funeral will be held
from her late re§idence, Spading
Street, on Friday' afternoon. ` Inters.

Union .Meeting of Auxiliaries. — A
union meeting of the Senior and Bar-
bara'•Kirkman Auxiliaries of the Wo-
men's Missionary Societies of First
Presbyterian Church was held on
Tuesday night. The president of the
Senior Auxiliary, Mrs. W. Freeman,
conducted the opening exercises, fol-
lowed by the secretary's •report by
Miss Ballantyne.. The principal item
of business was the notice of the giv-
ings of funds for the supply commit-
tee and the apeeintment of a new wel-
come and welfare secretary at the
June meeting. Mrs. R. Kerslake,
.president of '.the Barbara Kirkman
Auxiliary, then occupied the chair for
the rest of : the meeting. The special
item of business for, this auxiliary
was the stressing' of the convener of
the social committee, Mrs. J. W. Free,
that all members shouldbe in readi-
ness to help with the dinner on June
14th. Mrs. R. Aberhart gave the Bible
reading 011 the 23rd Psalm, and Mrs.
J. E. Daley sang "Count Your Bless-
ings." The Glad Tidings Prayer was
given by Mrs. Earle Bell on behalf of,
Announcement.—Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
liam Ellah, of Mitchell, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Ethel
Ferguson, to LAC. David J. Grieve,
son of Dr. and Mrs. John Grieve, of
Seaforth, the wedding to take place
June 10th.
Death of Pearson Grieve.—Dr. John
Grieve received word that . his son,
William Pearson Grieve, had, dropped
dead at his home in Buffalo on Thurs-
day morning., Mr. Grieve attended
publicschool here and also the, Sea -
forth . Collegiate institute. He , went
overseas as'a Lieutenant in the Great
War with the 161st Battalion. He
has been connected with the., Packard
Motor Company for a • number of
year's. Mr. Grieve 3a survived by his
wife and two ,sons, aged 12 and 14
'years. Funeral arrangements have
not been completed.

presented ,Mrs. E. A. McMaster with
a life membership certificate in the
Women's `Missionary Society of 'the
Presbyterian Church in Canada. Mrs.
Jack and Miss Belle Campbell, who
were delegates to the societies' an-
nual ,:Convention, held in 'Hamilton in
April, 'gave excellent reports of (the
meetings. Miss Campbell gave inter

various departments of the,.finencial
and statistic resulte of the year's
work. Mrs. ,Jack gave spiritual and

Wilcox - 'Wigg:—A beautiful May -
me wedding was solemnized at, four
'clock Saturday'last in First Presby-
erian Church,' Seaforth, when .Ma'r-
tory Bernice, daughter of Mr. and•
Mrs. • Fred W. Wigg, was united in
marriage to Arthur Frederick Wil -
:ox, London, son of Mrs. Frederick
George Wilcox, and the late Mr -.`,Wil-
cox, Vancouver, British •,Columbia.
The' front of the church was banked
with 'beautiful sprays of apple and
cherry. blossoms in front of which the
wedding ceremony was performed by
the Rev. Hugh Jack. Large urns of
scarlet tulips and lighted tapers adorn-
ed the cboir loft. Soft music was
played throughout , by, the organist,
Mrs. Milne Rennie,' and during the
signing of the register, Miss Gwen-
dolyn Blacklock, of London, sang,
"Through the Years." The bride, giv-
e; in marriage by her father,° was
gowned in white chiffon with slipper
satin fitted bodice made with a
•sweetheart neckline and, tiny satin
covered buttons. She wore her
mother's wedding veil of French il-
lusion net with a Mary Queen of
Scots headdress, and carried "scarlet
carnations and satin ribbons. The
maid of honor, Miss Jean Stewart, of
Seaforth, wore a 'lovely gown of for-
get-me-not blue taffeta made' with full
skirt, and sweetheart neckline. Her
headdress was a Juliet ca¢ of velvet
flowers with finger-tip veil. She car-
ried white carnations and sweet peas.
The bridesmaid, ' Miss • Elizabeth
Smith, W.R.C.N.S., Halifax, wore a
gown similar to that of the maid of
honer in daffodil yellow taffeta, with
matching headdress, and -carried
white flowers. The groom added a
colorful' note to' the wedding, wear-
ing the traditional red serge of the
Royal ,Canadian Mounted Police, as
did the ushers, John McMillan and
William Greenw.oaod. The groomsman
was Alastair Wigg, R.C.A.F., Vancou-
ver, B.C., brother of the bride. Mrs.
Wigg received' the guests at their resi-
dence, Goderich Street West, wearing
aqua•crepe with hat of French flowers
and corsage of Briarcliffe roses and
sweetpeas. The young couple left on
a motor 'trip to Muskoka. For trav-
elling the bride wore a cinnamon
brown suit.wi'th dark brown accessor-
iess and gab'denias•: On their return
they will reside in London, Guests,
were present from Oshawa, Toronto,
Halhilton, Vancouver, Saskatoon, Lou-
siest, Braiitfdrd, TXalifax and Stratford.

was honored by the members of both
Auxiliaries, on the eve of her depar-
ture from the congregation; in the
presentation of a gold wrist watch.
Mrs. Freeman gave the address in
which she expressed the appreciation
of all for Mrs. Jack's untiring effort
in the -Work of the Auxiliaries, her
courage and ability together with the
winsomeness of her character had en-
deared her to all the congregation,
and the sorrow that- her departure,
with that of Mr. Jack -.and their fam-
ily would .be to First Presbyterian
Church. Mrs. Kerslake presented the
watch. The offering Of the Senior
Auxiliary was taken by Mrs. 3. J. Cluff.
and Miss Elizabeth Smith,,• and that of
the Barbara Kirkman by Mrs. J. A.
MacDonald and Miss P. Patterson.

Mrs. William Caldwell, who under-
went an operation for appendicitis

Another success was attained when
the 'United Church held its Young
People's anniversary on ,Sunday last.
The abundance of beautiful flowers at
this season was in evidence in the
chancel of the church. Miss Ivison
secured tlie''services of Carey Joynt
and Mrs. Bonthron' as soloists, and
delighted the splendid company who
filled the auditorium with' their selec-
tions. The choir sang twe very fine
anthems, "Let Us Praise Him" and
"What a Friend We Have in Jesus,"
with 'Miss Elizabeth Grant taking the
obligate. The guest speaker, Rev. J.
L Z lair. brought two excellent mes-
sages on the straining . of youth and
the temptations of youth.
The service on Sunday next will
be conducted by
the minister, who
will speak on "The Meaning of Perste,
cost "
The Rev. Mr. Grant was at Antal
Craig occupying the pulpit of the
guest speaker at the anniversary.

The Late John W. Mason
The death of John W. Mason in
Clinton hospital on Friday • evening,
May 19th, was a great shock to hie
neighbors and friends, as he was ser-
iously ill for just a day. Mr. Mason
was in his, 74th year. Born in Hul-
lett Township, the family moved to
Morris when he was nine years old,
but for the past 52 years he has'.re-
'sided in East Wawanosh. His wife
was the :former Margaret Nicol, of
East Wawanosh, and in July last
year - they .celebrated' their golden
wedding. He was a member... of Knox
Presbyterian Ohurch, Beigrave. Sur-
viving besides .his wife, are two sons
and three slau;g'hters: Alien, •of Kit-
chener; Edwin, at home; (Edna) Mrs.
Young, of Brussels; (Annie) Mrs.
Henry Armstrong, of Walton, and
Miss Agnes at home. Two brothers
and a sister also survive, William and
Alex, of .Seaforth, and Mrs: John G.
Hill, High Bliiff, Man., and eight
grandsons, •five of wholly, are in the,
services. Rev. Samurel Kerr, of Brus-
sels, conducted the .funeral service at
the family. residence, Lot 39, 'Conces-
sion 7; East Wawanosh; on Monday
afternoon. Burial took place in. Bran-
don Cemetery, Belgrade. , The pall-
bearers Were Marshall Stonehouse,
Lewis Cook, Harvey Black, Albert
Coultes, Chris,' Nethery and Joseph
Dunbar. The flower bearers were •Or
ville Taylor, Clarence Rath, Stanley
Cook, Fred W. Cook, Mel. Bradburn
and Telford book.
