Hold Successful Euchre.—On Friday
evening, April 9th, the L.O.B.A. held
a very successful euchre in their hall.
There were sixteen .tables in play.
Prize winners were as follows: First,
ladies, Mrs. Garnet McClinchey;
men's, Mr. Fred Eisler; lone hands,
ladies, Mrs. Ernie Stevens; men's, Mr.
Bob Dodds; consolation, ladies, Mrs.
Norman Scofns; 'men's, Mr. William
Govenlock. A -bounteous lunch • was
served, followed by "God Save the
King." • Eighteen dollars" was taken in
to be used for war work.

• Girl Guides Hold Regular Meeting.
--The Girl Guides' meeting .opened
with the raising of the flag by the
Colour Party from No. 4 Iris Patrol.
Patrols formed ranks and inspection
and roll call was taken. Patrols re-
tired to their corners and a uumber
of recruits passed more Tenderfoot
tests. A contest was held in the
Morse Code and these kind of con-
tests are helping some Guides to learn
the Morse code and so pass their sec-
ond class test. A few Guides are try-
ing tests for their first class badge,
and soon a few girls will become First
Class Guides. The horseshoe, was
formed and the Guide meeting closed
with they lowering of the flag, the
Guide prayer, Taps and "God Save
the King."

Platteville, were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. D. H. Wilson on Saturday. .Mr.
Stauffer was here attending the fun-
eral of the late Ken E. Jackson.

daughter, Nancy, who were guests at
the home of Mrs. L. C. Jackson, have
returned to Woodstock.
• Miss Ruth Scott, of Brucefield,
was the guest of Miss Jean Wright
over the week -end.

ed with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Sharpe in
Clinton on Sunday.

family left on Monday for London,
where they will make their home, Mr.
Mellen having- been stationed there.

Goforth Mission Band Holds Easter
Meeting. The Goforth Mission Band
of First Presbyterian ?Church helti
•their Easter thankoffering in the base-
ment of the church on Monday last at
4 p.m. The president, Sue Nixon, wel-
comed the mothers and friends. The
meeting opened -by all standing and
repeating the pledge to our Empire
'land to our church. This" was follow=
ed by the National Anthem. The min-
utes of the last meeting were read
and approved. Glen Nixon, Ronnie
Jack, Ronnie Broome and Ronnie
Sutherland ' sang :'Little Soldiers.'.'
Forty-one answered the roll call. A
solo was given by Karen Kidd which
was very much appreciated. The of-
fering was received, followed by the
offertory prayer.,. Jean Ballantyne.
Doris Pullman, Margaret Stevens,
Frances Jack and Marie Jack favored
With a song, "Daffodil, Sweet Daffo-
dil." The devotional program was op-
ened by singing Hymn 779, verses 1
and 2. Anna Dupee read the scra'ip-
ture and Peggy Willis read the Eas-
ter story. Sentence prayers were giv-
en by Elaine Holrhes and Leona Stev-
ens. William Jack told the story,
"Sutra's Gift." Lois Broome recited,
"An Easter Message. The meeting
closed by singing Hymn 214, verse 1,
and the benediction.

Death of. Mrs. Charles Holland.—
Tlie death occurred in Clinton of Clara
Jervis, beloved, wife of Mr. Charles
Holland, on Sunday, April 18th, at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. W. M.
Nediger. Burial took place on Wed-
nesday, April 21st, to Clinton ceme-
tery, with Rev. Burton, ,assisted by
Rev. A, Lane, officiating. Mrs. Hol-
land was born in Goderich Township
on Christmas Day, 1865. She was
married in 1886 to her nnw ,bereaved
husband.. Also surviving' are four
daughters: Mrs. Arthur Welsh '(01-
ive), Mrs. EA,. Welsh (Zelma), Mrs.
Merritt .Nediger (Mary), of Clinton,
and Mrs. Ross Sh,vauge (Gladys), of
Seaforth; nine' grandchildren and
three great grandchildren; one bro-
ther, Mr. Alfred Jervis, of Clinton, and
one sister, Mrs. Thomas Holland, of
Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. Holland
came to Seaforth 20 years ago when
they purchased the Fowler home west
of Seaforth "at the turn." She was
an active member of Northside Unit-
ed Church, and a life member of the
Women's Missionary Society. At the
time' of her death she was a member
of Ontario Street Church, Clinton,
which church she attended before
moving to Seaforth. She was a lov-
ing wife and mother and a kindly
neighbor and friend to all who knew
her. The pallbearers were six
nephews:. Mr. N,elson Trewartha, Mr.
Win. Potter, Mrs. Wm. Merrill, and
Messrs, Leslie, Lorne and Oliver Jer-
vis. The flower bearers were five
grandsons, Mr. Harold Tyndall, Mr.
Edgar,jtathweil; , Prrd 'Wallis, 111r.
