Girl Guides Hold Regular Meeting.—
The Girl Guides meeting opened with
raising of Sag by the color party from
tir'°e Canary Patrol- "0 Canada" was
sung and Captain Phippen, of the Sal-
vation Army, took inspection and con-
ducted
onducted the games that were played
later in the meeting. Guides went to
their corners and B, Hamilton, assist-
ant Scout Leader, taught them a few
things about the compass and stars.
The Guides formed a horseshoe and
the flag was lowered. "God Save the
King" was sung and the Guides
-dismissed.

Hold Surprise Party.—On Wednes-
day afternoon a number of the Har-
purhey ladies met at the home 'of Mrs.
J. S. Russel to do Red Cross sewing
and one quilt was completed. Fol-
lowing the sewing, Mrs. Walter Rog-
erson was presented with a beautiful-
ly decorated cake with candles, it be-
ing the occasion of her birthday. The
cake was made by Miss Jean- Scott
and she had made the names of those
present in the icing, .including: Mrs,
J. B. Russell, Mrs. W. M. Stewart,
Mrs. Sam Cudmore, Miss FlorencE

Scouts Hold Regular Meeting.—Ir

ilton took charge and Scout Smite
raised the flag. Mr. Slatterly con
tinned his work on signalling witt
the first' and` second class Scouts
while thebeginners and Tenderfeet
learned about' knots. Each patrol is
to make something that will close its
corner from the rest of the room
This is to , be done by April 7th it
possible. .A •couple of games were
enjoyed and the meeting closed 'with
Scout Milliken lowering the flag. He
was the patrol leader ofthe honor
patrol of the night. After dismissal
some Scouts passed testa.
Mae Lane Auxiliary Meets., — The
1March meeting of the Mae ,Lane Aux-
iliary was held Tuesday evening at
the home of Miss Edna Bremner,
The president opened the meeting
with a ,hymn and prayers by Laura
Mole and Vera Mole. The thankof-
•fe'ting meeting is to be held on April
14th and is to be addressed by Mrs.
Crookes, former'iy Miss M. lVlustard.
The hymn, "Never Further Than Thy
Cross," was followed by 'Psalm 100,
read by E. Armstrong. This part of
the, meeting- was led by the captain
of Circle 3, Mrs. Bradshaw: • Hymn
and prayer by Mrs, Lorne Dale was
followed by a very interesting talk by
Miss. Fennell on the Indian leader,
Mahatma Gandi, Mrs. J. Stewart fav-
ored the' meeting with a delightful
solo and the meeting closed with a
hymn and prayer. Circle No. 1 serv-
ed an enjoyable fifteen -cent tea.
W. M. S. Meets.—An interesting
program was given Tuesday, March
23rd, in First Presbyterian Church bl
the Senior Auxiliary of the Women's
Missionary Society_ The opening
prayer given by Mrs'. Wm. Freeman,
the president„ was followed by pray-
ers by Mrs, James ''Kerr and Mrs. N.
Gillespie.* Mrs. Freeman received re-
ports from the various officers and
conducted the business. The devo-
tional period given by Mrs. Greig's
group was: Current events, Mre. Gil-
lespie; Bible reading, Mrs. William
Drover; prayer composed by Mrs. J.
G. Mullen, read by Mrs. J. C. Greig.
Mrs. T. Swan Smith had the topic,
reading a paper on the work the W.
M. S.Yhas done and is doing for the
Chinese in Canada. Mrs. Greig read
an article defining the spiritual de-
velopment of Madame Chiang Kai-
ahek which clearly demonstrated the
secret of the success of this captivat-
ing Chinese.:. lady. The 'meeting clos-
ed.)with the Glad Tidings Prayer, giv-
en by Miss Ballantyne. The •l ms s
were 433, 544, 5213 and 568, the pianist
being Mrs. Geddes.

concerning Dr. and Mrs, Mackay, re-
cently of Tokio, and who are ,tow
about` to take up work in New
Guinea, where Dr. Mackay will be
supervisor of the educational work of
the church. Mrs. Milliken had the
topic from the year's study bd'ak, deal-
ing with the work of the church in
Quebec. Mrs. T. G. Scott and Mrs.
McKay took up the offering and Mrs.
E. A. McMaster sang a solo.
Settles - Grimoldby.—The Egmond-
ville Parsonage ,was the scene of a
pretty wedding on Saturday, March
13th, when Olive Mae, only daughter
of Mr, and Mrs. Robert Grimoldby, of
Hullett Township, became the bride
of Mr'. Kenneth Hugh Betties, eldest
son of Mr, and Mrs. Theron Betties,
of Winthrop. Rev. A. W. Gardiner
performed the ceremony. They were
cattended by Miss Ysabelle Betties, R.N.
of Loetiou, and Mr. Jack Wright, of
Seaforth. On Friday evening last a

Death 'of Miss Jean Ferguson.—Miss
Jean Ferguson, R.N., passed away in
Scott Memorial Hospital on Wednes-
day-, March 24th, following an illness
of two months, the last having been
spent in the hospital. Miss Ferguson
was a daughter of the late R. H. Fer-

1913 she graduated as. a Registered
Nurse from Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don; being gold medalist in a class of
twenty-four. She was 'exceptional'ly
v.ell qualified for. her profession and
possessed a personality that endeared
her to her many patients, who will al -
Ways remember with gratitude_,_ • her
great ability and kindness. Miss Fer-
guson bad been a valued ;member of
Northside United Church during the
fourteen years the. family have resid- I
ed in Seaforth and was also a life
member of the W.M.S. Her father
predeceased her in 1927 and her
mother in 1932, but she is survived
by two sisters and one brother, Mr.
George E. Ferguson, of Toronto, and
the Misses Annie and Maud Fer,'usou
of Seaforth. A private funeral will be
held from -her late residence, Sparliog
Street, on Friday afternoon, when the
servicer will be conducted by Rev.
II. V. Workman, followed by inter-'
n:ent in the family plot in Brussels
cemetery. The pallbearers will -be 1

We are pleased to report Mr. Mc-
Cartney has recovered from his re-
cent illness and is able to continue
his work in the chopping mill.
Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Stephenson, who
have been residents of the village for
a few years, have moved back td the
farm. Mr, and Mrs. Stephenson will
be very much missed.

'Miss Catherine Coyne entertained a
group• of friends,at a St, -Patrick's sup-•
per according to her annual custom.
Miss Coyne, who is 87 years of age,
is a native of Hibbert Township, and
has lived in" Dublin for more than 30
years.
' Mr. and Mrs. William O'Reilly have
received a cablegram of the death of
their son, Private Clarence O'Reilly,
who died in England on Thursday,
March 18th. His parents had • receiv-
ed word on Tuesday of serious injur-
les sustained'• when he was accident-
ally shot in a training camp some-
where in England. He was in his 25th
year, the ypungest son of Mr. and
Mrs. William O'Reilly of McKillop
Township, and was born November 8,
1917. He enlisted in the Essex Scot-
tish Regiment in.July, 1940, and went
overseas in October, 1942. He was a,
member of St. Patrick's 'Church, :Dub-
lin, where a ,memorial high. mass was
sung on Tuesday morning at 9.30 a.m.
Besides his parents, he is survived by
three 'brothers, Joseph; Kitchener;
John, Toronto, and Private Hubert, -of
Halifax, N.S., and two sisters, Mrs.
Tom' Burke (Ruth),, Detroit, and Sis-
