ed his 87th birthday. Mr. Sills en-
joys excellent health, and although he
retired from active business several
years ago, he is still on Main Street

Barbara 'Kirkman Auxiliary Meets.
—The Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary of
First Presbyterian Church held their
regular monthly meeting Tuesday
night with Mrs. J. Thompson, the
president, presiding, and opening the
meeting with a prayer Following the
business session, Mrs. R. $. McKind-
sey took charge of the meeting. The
Scripture lesson was read by Miss E.
Elder. Mrs. W. Manson read the
Glad Tidings prayer and a piano solo
was played Eby . Miss Marion Manson.
-,The topic, "The Church, the Bible and
Our Own Responsibilities as Chris-
tians," was given by Miss Belle Camp-
bell. The meeting closed with a
hymn and prayer.
Young People's Union Meets.—The
regular meeting of the Young Peo-
ple's Union of Northside Church was
held on Tuesday with President Mar-
guerite Westcott'-in the chair-. The
meeting was opened with the singing
of the hymn, "Upward, Ever Upward
To the Promised Land," followed by
prayer by Ronald Savauge, The min-
utes were seconded by Fred Weed -
mark. -. After the business period, the
hymn "Fight the Good Fight With All
Thy Might" was sung and Ernest
Clarke led in prayer. Rev. H. V.
Workman took the topic, "Current
Events,". After the hymn, "Now the
I)ay •-is--O,Y,er;" Helen Moffat led in
prayer: The meeting was closed by
singing the National Anthem and re-
peating the Mizpah benediction.
Presbyterian W. M. B. Meets.—The
W.M.S. of First Presbyterian Church
held their February meeting on Tues-
day in the school 'room of the. church.
The meeting opened- with prayers by
Mrs. W. Drover and Mrs. C. Brodie.
The president, Mrs. T. B. Govenlock,
conducted the various items of busi-
ness. A prayer, given by, Mrs. Pat-
terson, who had. charge of the meet-
ing, was followed by Hynin 491 select-
ed by Mrs. Samuel 'Boyd, The. Scrip-
ture reading, Matthew 25, was given
by .Mrs. J. C. Greig. .Mrs. John Cluff
gave the Glad Tidings prayer, "Beau-
tiful Garden of Prayer," sung by Mrs.
J. A. Munn and Miss 'Pearl Patter-
son, accompanied by Mrs. Keating,
was very highly appreciated. The
topic, "Christian Missions and Ser-
ti;ce," was ably taken by Mrs. Charles
Aberhart. "Did you ever stop to
think before` you can do good to peo-
ple by serving, you must try to love
them? Christ loved to serve and
spent all his time in service." Mrs.
Aberhart concluded her talk with -the
reading of a poem, "The Spirit of
Missions." The closing prayer was
given by Mrs: James Kerr.

Owing to badly drifted' roads last
Sunday the Mission Band meeting,
which was to have been told an in-
teresting story by Mrs. W. F. Alex-
ander, is being held" next Sunda'
morning instead.
The women of the community held
the- World's Day of Prayer in the
Sunday school room of the United
Church on Friday last. The order of
service prepared by the Inter -Board
Committee of the Women's Mission-
ary Societies of Canada, was used.
Mrs. A. Johnson, president of the- lo-
cal Women's Missionary Society, was
in charge of the service: Special
prayers were offered by Mrs. R. Mc-
Bride, Mrs. W. L. Mellis, Mrse, W. F.
Alexander and Mrs. A. M, • Grant. A
beautiful trio, "Teach Us' To Pray,"
was well rendered by Mesdames J.
B. McLean, H: Mc'Murtrie and J. L.
Henderson. The service concluded
with the hymn, "The Day Thou Gay-
est, Lord, is Ended," the National An-
them and the benediction ,by ,the,
president.
On Sunday morricg the minister
discussed "Temptation" on the 'basis
of the sixth petition of the Lord's
Prayer, and announced" his intention
of concluding the series next Sunday
with the seventh petition dealing with
"Evil," and especially with reference
to present conditions in the world.

ST. COLUMBAN
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Murray, highly
respected and well known, -residents
of S1. Coluimban, celebrated ,their 20th
wedding ann'versary on Saturday,
Feb, 21. at their home Here. Their
family of three were all at home to
celebrate the occasion, Miss Mary
Murray coming from Galt. The other
members of the family are Joseph
and Doreen,' 'who are home. The
community wishes Mr. and Mrs. l.Viur-
ray many years of ' prosperity-• and
happiness on this occasion.
Native of St. Columban Dies
The death of Miss Ella Dorsey,
daughter df the late Mr. and; Mrs.
Michael Dorsey, of St.• Columban, oc-
curred Sunday evening in Scott Mem-
orial Hospital, following a heart at-,
'ack. ,Miss Dorsey, Who lived with
her sister, Mrs. Lucy Woods of Dub-
lin, became suddenly after return-
ing..from church Sunday morning.
Prior to this she had been in good
health and lier death was a great
shock to her many friends. She was
born near St. Columban 72 years ago
and had lived in Seatorth a number
of year's, and 'also .in Detroit, but of
late lived tri Dublin, She is surviv-
ed by two brothers, William and
Louis, of Dublin, and two sisters,
Mrs. Lucy Woods... ;and, Mrs. James
Jordan, also of Dublin- The follow-
ing acted as pallbearers: Edward
Melacly, Patrick Jordan, Alex Darling,
Joseph Stapleton, Joseph O'Connell

ing of a young merchant ,of our com-

greatly' with those bereaved. He died
ie Winnipeg General Hospital on Sat-
urday, Feb. 7, as the result of en op-
eration from w'hic'h he was confident-
ly: expected to recover. Harvey Vil,f3
born' in Brussels, Ontario, on April 91;
1896, .and carne to Elkhorn 30 years
sago. He served with the 190 batta,
lion during the last war, which finish-
ed just before he was listed to go ov-
erseas. Returning to civil life he
spent some, time clerking at Moo.so-
min and on May •6, 1924, he married
Florence Good, of the Lenore dis-
trict. 'A year later he opened up
"The Gilt Edge" store in Elkhorn'and
ran this business with ar •gr,'eat deal
of -ability until his failing health a
few weeks ago forged him' to seek
medical advice. It atepears from this
that he. had been tilling for some
time and iris' weakened condition has-
tened his death. Harvey is survived
Eby his wife and one son, also his
mother and two sisters; 'Mrs: P: Ray -
Jeer, of Killarney, and. Mrs. W. Me
Lel•land, of Virden. Rev. G. F.,Denyes
conducted the funeral service in Elk-
horn United Church on February 9, in
the presence of one of the largest
gatherings of ' sympathizers ever
known here. The neatly floral tri-
butes bore further testimony of the
popularity of this comparatively
young citizen. Local . stores' ' closed
during the service. • The pallbearers

EGMONDVILLE
The regular meeting of the Eg-
mondville Young People's Union was
'held Tuesday night. e.The meeting
opened with a sing -song led by Anna
Watson. The devotional convener,
Mayna•e Watson, opened the meeting
Mein, Hymn 362, after which Mr. Gard_
iner led in prayer, The Scripture les-
son was read by Jack Patrick from
Mark '-8:22-27. ,The convener' then
spoke a few words on the verse, "He
took the ,biindman by the hand end
led him out of the town." The busi-
ness period followed, after which the
president introduced the guest speak-
er of the night, Miss Winnie Savauge.
Miss Savauge told the story of Dr.
Cronin's famous book, "The Keys of'
the Kingdom," which was greatly en-
joyed by everyone present. The min-
utes of the last meeting were read
by Anna Watson in the absence of
the secretary. The offering was tak,'
en up by Douglas Wallace, The meet-
ing closed by singing the National
Anthem and repeating the Mizpah
benediction.

On Friday the funeral of Miss Eliz-
abeth McAllister, of Hensall, well
known in this vicinity,, took place to
Hillsgreen cemetery The sympathy
of the community is extended to tihe
many relatives.
Mrs. John Baker entertained a few
of her neighbors on Thursday after-
noon to a quilting bee.
A number of the boys from this
vicinity- wiho are working in St. Cath-
arines, spent the week -end at their
respective homes. ' .
VARNA
Vanguar is -Win
The Varna Vanguards defeated the
Sexsmibh Swamp Rats in. Hensall
last Wednesday evening by a shutout
score of 4-0. Owing to the rough, ice
surface, the play was somewhat slow,
but very clean, Buck Little not giv-
ing any penalties. It was Varna',
'first win against the Swamp Rats, as
the Rats lost their second strajght
game. 'Alvin Smale, Gordon. 'John-
ston and Harry Reid were the scor-
ers for Varna, Smale getting two
goals and Johnston _and Reid one
each. The Vanguards 'are scheduled
to play the Chiselhurst Wease]s en

He was predeceased by two brothers.
Mr. Donnelly wasi•'born on May 15,
1876, son of the late John Donnelly
and Elizabeth Delaney, He was a
faithful member of St. Patrick's
Church, Dublin. The funeral was
held last Saturday morning at 10:30
a.m, from the 'home of his brother to
St- Patrick's-Gleur'eh,---Dublin, where
Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev.
Dr, Ffoulkes. Many spiritual offer-
ings were received froni a large num-
ber of .friends' and relatives. The pall-
bearers were Patrick Ryan, John. Ry-
an, James Burns, Mae Feeney, Peter
Krauskopf and John Ryan, Those
who attended the funeral from a dis-
tance were three nieces, Irene
and
Dorothy Donnelly, Goderich; Angela
Donnelly, Stratford, and a nephew,
Eugene Donnelly, Niagara Faris. Bur-
ial took place in St. Patrick's' ceme-
tery.
The Late Miss Ella Dot•sey
Miss Ella Dorsey, a highly and re-
spected residept pf Dublin, died Sun-
day evening' ,•bout... 9 p.m,' in 'Scott
Memorial Hospital, Seaforth. She
suffered a heart attack on Sunday
morning when she came fromchurch
and was: rushed to the hospital, where
she died. Miss Dorsey was • born in
St, Columban, he daughter of Michael
Dorsey and Catherine Fortune, She
wasea her 73rd year,._. and._s¢as..-_tv.e11,
known in this district and lived most
of her life here. With the exception
of seven years slave spent in Detroit,
she had .been living with her sister,
Mrs: Lucy Woods for the past five
years. . The late Miss Dorsey is sur-
vived by two sisters, Mrs. James Jor-
dan, Dublin, and Mrs. Lucy Woods,
Dublin, and two broohers,::.l,Louis ' of
Dublin and William, St. Columban,
The funeral was held at 10:30 a,m,
Wednesday morning to St. Patrick's
C'harcb, Dublin. •
