Dear Mrs- Eaton: I am writing to
thank you so very much for the
nightie Which I received. What a
beautiful warm one it was! I am so
very sorry I have not written you be-
fore, but you see I have been ser-
iously ill in bed after a confinement.
I had pneumonia set in and then as
I was getting over it I took a relapse,
but thanks to God above I am on the
road to recovery. It has been ten
weeks since my little son was born;
he is the picture of health to look at.
'When I have his'photograph taken I
will send you one. I 'have two other
boys, 7 and 4 years old. My husband
is in the army; he is in .the Dorset
Regiment in Northern France—such a
long way from one when I need him.
He has been there over 12 months.,
He. -saw the baby once; the doctor
sent for him when I was so ill It
will be so nice when we can all,.go
back to our old ways of living all to-

pital, London. While attending the
Toronto Exhibition Mr. Shaddick was
taken ill .with nose hemorrhages and
was taken to the hospital at London
on Tuesday. His son, Reeve E. R.
Shaddick, gave, him , blood transfu-
sions.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Ferguson and fam-
ily visited his brother in Toronto
and also attended the Exhibition.
Dr. Fred Walters, accompanied by
his mother, of London, and Mr. and
Mrs. Ted Taman and daughter, Toni,
of Listowel, were Sunday guests with
Mrs, axles McDonell and family,
M Roy MacLaren, of St. Cathar-
ines, spent the week -end and holiday
with his wife and son, Donald.
Mr. and Mrs. James A. Paterson
are enjoying a visit to Toronto.-Ee-

Harold Williard•, son Of Mr. and
Mrs. Ezra Williard and Orville Hed-
den, son of Mrs. Catherine Hedden,
who were injured in a motor accident
on the Queen Elizabeth Highway, St.
Catharines, when the car driven by
Williard; in .order tqa avoid shitting a
dog, left the highway,hw
ay, careening to
the ditch, overturning three times,
causing the boys to be thrown through
the top of the car, are improving and
expect to be released from the hospi-
tal this week.
George Smith, two-year-old son of
Mr, and Mrs. Alfred Smith, who was
operated on in St. Joseph's Hospital,
`London, last week, is getting along
nicely.
Miss Lenore Norminton, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. E. Norminton, of
Hensall, and a pupil of Hensall pub-
lic school, won tenth prize in the
public speaking competition, held at
Toronto Exhibition,. There were 60
contestants.
Hensall will hold an election on
Monday, Sept. 8th, in the Town Hall,
to select a councillor to replace D. E.
MacKinnon, who recently enlisted
with the R.C.A.F. and is stationed at
Brandon. Nominated were Frederick
Datars and Alvin William Kerslake,
who are both running for the honors.
Peter T. McNaughton was elected
'school trustee by acclamation to re-
place Ed. Norminton, who is at pres-
ent with the R.C.A.F.. overseas.
During the early hours of Wednes-
day morning one side of Cook's mill
caved in which lett their large stock
of grain and beans exposed to the
weather. Men . were employed in
shovelling the e.. tents of the mill in-
to freight cars. - r
Of interest to the many audiences
who have travelled in distant lands
with the Toll Brothers is the an-
nouncement of the engagement of
Rev. Ellsworth Toll, M.A., one of the
brothers and a native of Hensall, to
Miss Ruth Draper, of London, daugh-
ter of Graydon Draper, of Detroit, and
the late Mrs. Draper. Mr. Toll is a
son of Rev. S. L. Toll, B,A., B.D., and
Mrs. Toll, of London. Mr. Toll was a
former Methodist minister ,, of this
village, The wedding will take place
September 20th at Wesley United

Death of Archie Lamont Graham
The death occurred at bis late res'-
dence, 469 Dufferin Avenue, London,
on Monday, August 25th, of Archie
Lamont Graham, beloved husband of
Matilda Graham, former Miss Pearcy
Scott, of Hensall, in his 69th year.
Funeral services were held on .Wed-.
nesday, August 27•th, at 2 p.m. from
the Geo. E. Logan & ,Sons funeral
chapel. Burial was in_:Pop1ar• 41iU
cemetery. The deceased was .former-
ly night watchman for many years
with the Huron, Erie & •London, and
was highly thought of. He was
known to many Hensall 'residents,
who were always pleased to meet hire
and converse with him on his numer-
ous vacation visits to Hensall. He is
survived by his widow.

Hold Haist Reunion
The #iaist reunion was held at
Crediton on September 2nd with an
attendance over 176. After a sumptu-
ous dinner the business was . trans-
acted and newly appointed officers
were elected. It was decided to hold
the reunion again next year on Labor
Day.- It was decided to send a dona-
tion of 310.00 to the Queen's Fund.
After the business a wonderful pro-
gram of sports was- run off and there
were games for the youngest to the
oldest. There -were prizes given to
the following: Youngest member
present, Sandra K. Finkbeiner, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin' Finkbeiner,
Crediton, Ont.; oldest member pres-
ent, Mr. Godfrey Wein, of Crediton;
youngest married couple present, Mr.
and Mrs. John Page, Romeo, ,Michi-
gan. The officers - for the ensuing
year are: President, Joshua Braun,
Bad Axe, Mich.; -vice-president, Mose
Haist, Pigeon, Mich.; secretary -treas-
urer, Mrs. Jack Paul, Clare, Mich.
Mr. R. A. 'Orr, of Ailsa Craig, and
Mrs. Orr and family, of Ailsa Craig,
have moved into the Petty block_,
where Mr. Orr will conduct a shoe
and harness repair shop.

home following - a delightful visit

Mr. Clarence' Smillie, well known
district farmer, wears 'a smiling face
these days. It's a girl.
Mr, Kenneth Manns, of Toronto,
visited with 'his mother, Mrs. F.
Manns, over the holiday.
Mr. Raye Paterson returned to To-
ronto on Monday after enjoying a de-
lightful two weeks' vacation with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Paterson.
The Hensall Senior Institute will
resume their meetings in the very
near future, the 'September meeting
to open with a pot -luck supper, to be
held at the home of Miss Sally Man-
son, on Sept. 10th, at 6.30 p.m.
