held `th•eir first meeting of the year
on Wednesday evening. The officers
for the coming year, who were 1n
stalled are: President, Edmund Daly
Vice -President, Dorothy Bannon, Sec-
retary, Dorene Regier and Treasurer,
David Bolton. A short reading entit-
led, "Youth Groans Over His State"
was given by „James O'Rei11y. A dia-
logue by Loretta Bannon and Bert
Barry was much enjoyed. The re-
mainder of the evening was spent in
recreation -
Goforth Band Meets., --,The Goforth'
Mission Band met Monday opened
by singing a hymn, which was follow-
ed by the Lord's Prayer. Business
wan dscussed and final arrangements
were made for the Valentine Tea
to be held Thursday; February Sth.
Peggy Willis took the,- chair for the
devtional period, and a hymn was sung
Scripture, Mark 2: 1-12 was read by
Helen O'Dell and prayer by Peggy
Trapnell. A reading "Just the Little
People" given by Louise Case. Mrs,
D. H. Wilsen :told a story and the
meeting was closed by all singing
the National Anthem.

The regular ineetin.g of the North
side United Church was held on Tues-
day evening February 6th' with Jack
Stevens presiding. "I need Thee ev-
ery hour", was sung, followed byt the
Lord's prayer which was repeated in
unison. The minutes of the last meet-
ing were read and the roll call taken.
• T'he •Devotional convenor, Audrey
Webes'ter took over the meeting'.`
"Sweet hour of prayer" was sung and
Vera Mole lead in prayer. Audrey
We•bester read a poem after which
Maxine and Alma Lawrence favour-
ed the meeting with a duet.

Death of Thelma Cre;ghton.-
Word was received by Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Kirk of Tuckersmith of the
death of their grand -daughter, Thelma
Creighton, -who Was .•hurt on January
24th as she crossed the street to go
skating Lo 00 outdoor rink. She was
taken to the hospital where she died
shortly afterwards. Her father pois-
ed. away •eigrh.t years ago and ssie is
survived by her another, one sister,
Pearl, and one brother, Francis, who
is attending Wayne University. ;Thel-
ma was a student in a Detroit school
and literally hundreds came to view
the remains as her body lay the Al-

der of the Anglican church officiated.
A number of relatives and friends'
attended the funeral from Chicago,
Stra.throy, W'ingh'am, Seaforth and
Goderich. Six j;tudents of Wayne
University were the, pall -bearers. In-
terment was made in Acasia Ceme-
tery Detroit, Michigan, in the family
plot.

by three sisters, in Toronto, Embro,
and Bluevale respectively.
The- February meeting of the Wo-

United Church schoolroom, with the
president, Mrs. S. N. Gailager, in ,
charge. In the programme that fol-
lowed, Miss Margaret Curtis gave a •
paper on "Courtesy", and Rev.Camp-
bell Tavener sang "''Grandfathers•'

the hostesses, Mrs. James Robertson
and Mrs. Robert Shaw.

news of the death; of Joseph Hickey
at his home oh Tihured'ay at the age
of 42 years. The young man had been'
in declining health for several months
and underwent an operation in. St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, in San-
, nary which was unsuccessful. He
returned home in an ambulance only
a few days previOnS tolhiss death. He
resided en a Yarm. in Hibbert Town,
ship during the 'greater portion of
his life and purchased the Messrs.
Schsniult farm on the highway only
last fall. He was married to Miss
Marie Mero of Seaforth about four
teem years ago. He was 'mail -'carrier
for R. R. No. 1 Dublin for the past ten
years. He is survived by this wife and:

Niagara Falls, and three brothers':

death of two members, Everett McGee
