A • Prize Tomato, -The prize tomato
of the season was brought to The
Expositor tires week by Mr. George
Hill, James Street. It measured 121
x 19 inches, was perfectly formed
and of a. very fine color. It was grown
in Mr. Hill's own garden and would
be a pretty hard one to beat.
Junior Women's Institute Will Meet.
-The regular meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. Eldon Kerr on Wed-
nesday, Sept. 14th. The roll call will
be "a good supper dish." Mrs. J. F.
Soott will give a talk on home econ-
omics. The meeting will be held at
2.30 p.m.

Northside W. M. S. Meets. - The
September meeting of the W. M. S.
of Northside United Clxurch was held
on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 1st, at
the home of Mrs. Russel. There was
a good attendance. and a pleasant
time was spent by all. The meeting
opened by singing a hymn, after
which the president, Mrs. Laing, led
in prayer. The treasurer's report was
read and adopted. The. roll call was
taken. The Centre Sectional meet-
ing of the W. M. S. of the United
Chure'h will be held in Waterl'oo on
September 12th. The thankoffering
service of Northside United Church
is to be held on Sept. 29th. Mrs. Hay,
as captain of Circle 3, then took
charge of the devotional period. The
topic' was "Missions and the Church
Universal." A th'ymn was 'sung and
Mrs. Hay and Miss J. Ferguson gave
some readings on the subject. The
rest' of the program took the form of
a questionnaire in which the follo,v-
i ng ladies took part:• Mrs. Frost, Mrs.
A_ Reid; Mrs. T. J. Webster, Miss
Lawrence, Miss M. Ferguson, Mrs.
Rintonl, Mrs. Lawson, Mrs. J. Soott,
Mrs. Cuthill, Miss Alexander, Mrs.
Hester and Mrs. Barron. Another
hymn was sung, the offering was re-
ceived and Mrs. Hay closed the devo-
tional part of the meeting with pray-
er. The members of the W. M. S.
then entertained the Baby Band and
their mothers. A delicious lunch was
served and a delightful afternoon was
brought to a close.
The Late Mrs. D. Macdonald ---On•
Tuesday, August 30th, at her resi-
dence, London Road, Sarnia, death
came with great suddenness to Evelyn
Brough Macdonald, widow of the late
Daniel Macdonald. for over fifty years
High Court Clerk and Cleric of the
Surrogate Court of the County of
_Huron. The late Mrs. Macdonald was
the daughter of the late Judge Secor
Brough, pioneer Judge of the County
of Huron, and lived most of her life
in Goderich. Some twelve years ago
on the retirement of her husband, she
went to Sarnia and made her home
with her son, W. Brough Macdonald,
manager of tare Dominion Bank in
that city. Mrs. Macdonald while :n
Goderich was always active in church
and charitable work. A staunch sup-
porter of St. George's Anglican
Church, her other great interests
were the Goderich. Hospital and the
Daughters of the Empire. She was
the instigator of the movement which
through the years was responsible for
Cie present Goderich Hospital and the
"4hmeek" Chapter of the Daughters
the Empire of which she was the
-first Ry'ent, was ,the second chapter
1•of this order established in Canada.
Daughter of one of Canada's best
known Jurists of the last century,
n:iecre of Archdeacon Brough whose
name is perpetuated in Broughdale,'
one of London's suburbs, she was one
of a family whose name was fa.miliar
in the legal, financial and religious
life of Canada in the last century.
Her (husband, the late •Daniel Macdon-
ald, predeceased her just ten years
ago. She is survived by two sons,
Redmond, of Aylmer, Que., and W.
Brough, of Sarnia; and by two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Robertson MacLean and
Mrs. Arthur Newton -Brady, of Hamil-
ton•. A brother, Mr. Walter C. Brough
of Goderich, also survives her, The
funeral service, which was held in
Goderich on Friday, Sept. 2nd, was
conducted by His Grace the Bishop
of Huron, assisted by Rev. A. C.
der, Rector of St. George's Church,
Goderich.

A pretty wedding was Solemnized
on Monday, Sept. 5th, at the home of
Mr. and Mrs, Frank Phillips, ninth
concession of Hullett, when their
younger daughter, Charlotte Jeanette,
became the bride of Stewart Cham-
bers, son of Mrs. James Chambers,
Toronto. At 3.30 p.m. to the strains
of Lobengrin's Bridal Chorus, played
by Mrs. William Je ett, of Londes-
boro, the bridal party-TTook their place
on the lawn before an evergreen arch
surmounted by white wedding bells.

ter the ceremony about seventy guests
partook of a dainty buffet luncheon
in the dining room where pink glad-
iolus and phlox were effectively used
in ,decoration. The guests were re-"
ceived by the mothers of the bride
and groom, the former wearing black
figured crepe, the latter navy blue fig-
ured silk, both having corsages of
sweet peas. The toast to the bride
was proposed by her cousin, Mr. W.
H. Little, of Brantford. The groom
ably. responded. Later Mr. and: Mrs.
Chambers left on a trip to Windsor,
Detroit and Niagara Falls, the bride
travelling in a grey tailored suit with
accessories to match. ' They will re-
side at 2 Strathmore Blvd., Toronto.
