John Humphrey, D.D. Tbe bride was
attended by Miss Loraine Platte• of
'Detroit, and the groom was supported
by Mr. Arthur Edward Greenless.
They will reside on the groom's farm,
Maitland Hall, just north of Seaforth.
Died in Kelso -Friends were sorry
to learn that Mrs. Sydney Johns, a
former resident of Seaforth, passed
away at the home of her niece, Mrs.
L. Robertson, Kelso, Ont., last vree,k,
at the age of 83 years. Mrs. Rails
resided on Centre Street •for many
eyears and &abut four years ago went
to live with'ther aieee at Kelso. Her
deatth occurred after an illness of two
weeks. Burial took place at Hamil-
ton. Formerly Barbara Campbell,
she was married to Mr. Perry and fol-
lowing his death lived in Hamilton a
few years prior to her marriage to
Mr. Sydney Johns, of Seaforth, who
predeceased her about fifteen years
ago.
Funeral of Mrs. J. R. Hillis. - The
funeral of the late Mrs: J. R. Hillis
was held from the Thome of her
mother, Mrs. G. T. Turnbull, on Wed-
nesday afternoon of last week, and
although private, 'wee very Iargely at-
tended. Rev. W. P. Lane, of Gode-
rich, and a former pastor of North-
side United Church, Seaforth, con-
ducted the services, during scilicet a
quartette was rendered by Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Stewart, Miss Mary Bar-
ber and Mr, Samuel Scott. Interment
-was made in Maitlandbank cemetery,
the pallbearers being Messrs. M. R.
Hillis, Burk's Falls; W. G. McIntosh,
Toronto; Stewart McIntosh. Detroit;
W. Thompson, Kippen; Fred Parsons
and James M. Scott, Seaforth. Among
those from a distance who attended
the funeral were: Mrs. B. Wilson,
Mr. and Mrs.- D. McMillan. Mr. and

Northside W. M. S. Meets. - The
August meeting of the W.' M. S. of
Northeide United Cburch was held !n
tte Sunday school room on Thursday
afternoon, After the hymn., "Talk
With Us, Lord, Thyself Reveal," was
sung, Mrs. Laing led in prayer. The
secretary and treasurer's reports were
read and adopted. Mrs. Keine, the
temperance secretary, gave a good
reading, "Keeping One's Self in Or-
der." The best man finds it hard en-
ough to keep himself in order without
intoxicating drinics; better leave alco-
hol alone entirely. During the busi-
ness period it was decided to hold
the thankoffering and social meeting
on September 29th, or as near that
date as possible. Circle 2, with Mrs.
Glew as captain, then took charge of
the devotional period. Mrs. Hari:tern,
Miss Alexander and Mrs. Glew read
papers dealing with the theme, "Life
is That We Are Alive To." The hymn.
"He Liveth Long Who Liveth Well"
was sung and Mrs. Weetcott led' in
prayer. The Social and Welfare leaf-
let was taken by Miss A. Wallace,
Mrs. Oleo, and Miss A. Ferguson. The
offering was then received and, the
,hymn, "I Must Needs Go Home By
Way of the Cross' was sung and the
meeting closed by th•e Mizpah bene -
di aloe.

The rain storms -caused consider-
able damage in the vicinity, taking
part of the roof off the barns of Mr.
B. B. Stephenson, Me. James Dale,
Mr. Bert Hoggarth and Mr. William
Jewitt, ana considerable damage was
done to Charles Dexter's barn. -Mr.
Hanrison's and Mr. R,. B. Rogerson's
barns were almost a wreck. •

Death of Mrs. W. S. Broacffoot
The death occurred in Scott Mem-
orial Hospital early Saturday morn-

Tuckersmith, Mrs. Broadfoot had
been ailing for the past year, but her
death came as a shock to the cc>m-
rounity. She was formerly Miss Neta
tie Dickson, daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. George Dickson, Huron pio-
neers, and was born on the Dickson
homestead • fifty - eight years aga,
on the fourbh concession of

McKillop. In 1903 she was united in
marribge to Mr. William S. Broad -
rode She was a member of the Unit-
ed Church at Brucefield and also a
member of the W. A. Association.
She leaves to mourn her lose her hus-
band, three sons, Ross, of Kippen;
Samuel, of London, and Wilmer, at
itome, and two daughters, Mrs. Har-
old Connell, of Varna, and Margaret,
at home; also one brother. Mr. (leo.
Dickson, of McKillop. The funeral
was held from her late residence to
Maitlandbank cemetery on Monday,
August 15th, at 2 p.m., with Rev. W.
A. Bremner, of Seaforth, and Rev. H.
S. Wright, of Brucefield, officiating.
Mrs. J. D. Cairns sang a solo.
The pallbearers were Messrs. D.
Fotheringham, Angus Brown, George
Roberton, Alex. Broadfoot, J. D. Gem-
mell and William Irvine. The floral
tributes were many and, beautiful.
Among -those who attended the fun-
eral were Miss Nellie' Broadfoot, To-
ronto; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kerwin, cf
Clifford; Mr. and Mrs. William Love.
Ethel; Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Spieran.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Walker. Mrs.
Davidson and Mrs. Dark, all of Brus-
sels; Mrs. Hollenbeck, Stratford; Mr.
and Mrs. George Roberton, of Clinton,
and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, London.
Miss Greta Blackwell, R.N., of Buf-
falo, N.Y., is the guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Lue Clark and family.
Me and Mrs. Robert Doig and fam-
ily, of Tuckersmith, and Mr. Murray
Doig, of Gorrie, spent the tea hour
with Mrs, L. J. Doig and Mise Janet
during the week.
Mrs. McLean, of Egaiondville, is
the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Mc -
