Guild of St. Thomas? Church held
their regular morally meeting in the
parish hall on Tuesday afternoon.
The president, Mrs. Charles Holmes,
opened 'the. ,mieeteng 'by reading from
St..Mark, 2nd chapter, verses '13 to
22, and took for her topic, "Raw 'Ma-
terial's," followed; by prayers. • Ar-
rangements were th.en made fee a
supper and sale of quilts, to be held
,May 12th. ' Appleysird closed
the meeting with -the benediction.

Northside W. M. S. Meets. - The
monthly meeting of the W. M. S. of
Nerthsicie United Church was held in
the basement of the church on Thurs-
day afternoon., April 9,... the president,
Mrs. Laing; presiding. The hymn, "I
Am Thine, 0 Lord," was sung follow-
ed with' prayer by Mrs. Laing. Ar-
rangenSenes were made to hold the
Easter Thankoffering. on April 26th.

"Temperance" and' . Mrs.• 'McMichael
read a story from the Watch Tower.
The devotional . period was in charge
of Circle No. 4, 'Mrs. McIntosh pre-
etisling. An Easter program. Was giv-
en. After singing, 'Low in the. Grave
He Lay," prayer'wasoffered by Miss
Lawrence. The Bible reading was
given 'by Miss Wallace and a heaue-
ful 'prayer sent in .by 'Mrs. Beattie
.was read. Interestirvg papers were
read by :Miss Robb, Miss Sonerville,
Miss. Lawrence and Mrs, Rintoul.
Mrs. Carter favored with a solo
which was enjoyed by all. The„„aneet-
ing twas ,closed by singing "Christ
the Lord is 'Risen' To -day" and the
Mizpah Benediction.

Death of. James Barbour. -One of
the tiniest pioneer residents of this
district passed peacefulgy away on'
Wednesday Morning, April 15, at the
horror of his daughter, Mrs. W. War-
den, ;Stratford, in the person of Jas'.
Barbleun. The deceased was 'in his.
89th year. Although ee, far advanc-
ed 'in age he was remarkably Alert
until a few months ago when he be-
came ill and gradually grew weaker.
He was of ,a quiet disposition but al -
way§ took a great interest in the of -
fairs of life and in his late years'
spent meat of his. time reading. 'Fifty,
eight years ago 'he was united in
.:rniteriage 'to Jane 'Miller and lived
tprectically 'all his life in Rashest
Township where ibis' faximed success-
fully. In 1916 he retired to Seaforth
where he resided until Mrs. Barbour's
death fourteen years ago, after which
he made hiseherne with his family,
spending some time each. year in this
vicirety. • He was a member of the.
Presbyterian Church, Seaforth. Mr.
Barbour is survived by all his fainely,
six daughteir and two sons: 'Mrs. A.
Patrick, McKillop; Mrs. W. Worden,
Strait:feed; Mrs. J. Davis, Seaforth;
Mrs. E. Dinnin, Seafortle Mrs. R.
Cloward, Grimsby; Mrs. R. Rice,
Tuc•kersmith; John Barbour, Staffa„
and James Barbour, ori the old hotme-
stead, and by one 'brother, Robert
Barbour, •Hitioblert, and thirteen grand-
children. • . •
